Outside the twenty-story building, a figure was jumping from one window frame to another.
His body moved along the exterior wall as he desperately tried to escape the terrifying pursuit happening inside the building.
The wind tore against his hood and robes, while the immense distance below made every movement dangerous, but despite the height, his movements remained fluid and precise.
Whoosh!
He pushed himself away from one window and reached for the next, his fingers expertly gripping the edge of the window frame before the momentum could carry him downward.
His boots struck the narrow ledge.
He immediately lowered his body and steadied himself against the wall.
From this height, the people and vehicles beneath him looked tiny, while the sounds of the chaos spreading through Glimmer District reached him only as distant echoes.
Even if he fell from such a height, he might not necessarily die, but he would certainly be injured, and that was something he did not want.
He had no intention of testing how much punishment his body could withstand.
He carefully shifted his weight before jumping again.
Whoosh!
His body crossed the gap between the windows, and his hand caught the next frame with practiced precision.
He gritted his teeth as his shoulder jerked from the sudden stop, but he quickly recovered and continued downward.
’I hope those two can distract him enough for me to escape.’
The thought had been his only source of confidence since leaving the others.
They might work for the same organization, but that did not mean they would help each other when their own lives were at stake.
In a situation like this, survival came first and he had already made his decision.
The other two would serve as bait.
While Thoren and his undead were busy chasing them through the building, he would escape from the outside and disappear into the city before anyone realized what he had done.
With the two serving as bait, he believed his chance of survival had increased considerably.
He only needed to descend far enough.
Once he reached the lower floors, he could find a place to enter the building again or move toward another structure, and with the chaos outside, tracking him would become much harder.
At least, that was what he believed in that fleeting moment, clinging to that fragile assumption as if it might shield him from the dread creeping up his spine.
His movements remained careful, but the urgency inside his chest continued to grow.
He reached the ninth floor window and his fingers wrapped around the frame, and he prepared to lower himself toward the eighth.
Just then, he heard a sound.
Bang!
A figure landed on the eleventh-floor window above him. Instantly, the hooded figure froze as his head snapped upward.
A dark figure stood several floors above him.
Its black robes moved gently in the wind, while the empty eye sockets beneath its hood burned with an eerie flame.
An undead.
"What!" Shock and confusion filled his mind.
His fingers tightened around the window frame.
’How?’
’How did it discover me?’
He had never returned to the building’s interior after leaving through the window. More importantly, he had not made a single unnecessary sound.
He had even deliberately chosen the outside route because he believed Thoren would be unable to track him once he left the building.
Yet an undead was standing above him right this very moment. He cursed several times in his mind.
’That bastard!’
Taking a deep breath as there was no time to think. He immediately released the window frame and increased his descent.
Whoosh!
His body dropped toward the next window.
He caught the edge with one hand, swung his legs toward the wall, and immediately pushed himself downward again.
At this point, he no longer cared about maintaining his previous level of caution. If he fell and injured himself, so be it.
An injury was better than being caught by that monster. His breathing became increasingly heavy as he forced his body to move faster.
The wind struck his face as he descended along the side of the building
He glanced upward and he saw the undead was moving. The undead stepped onto the window frame and immediately leaped toward the next floor.
Whoosh!
There was no hesitation and no fear of falling as the undead simply continued after him. The hooded figure’s face became ugly beneath his hood.
’It’s chasing me.’ He cried in his heart and without hesitation, he continued downward.
The fifth floor finally appeared beneath him.
He reached the window frame and grabbed it tightly, his body swinging against the building before he managed to stabilize himself.
For a brief moment, he allowed himself to look down and his heart jumped. Another black figure was standing below.
It was staring directly at him.
His pupils contracted. ’How is this possible?’
He looked up.
The first undead was already rushing toward him from above, moving at frightening speed.
Then he looked down again and another undead was already waiting below.
And now, he was pinned to the center. His escape route had been cut off from both directions.
His heartbeat hammered violently against his chest.
Should he go up?
Or should he continue downward?
His mind raced through his options.
If he went upward, the undead above would reach him before he could climb back to the building.
If he continued downward, the other undead was waiting for him. For several seconds, he remained frozen against the wall.
Then he gritted his teeth as there was no way he was going to surrender.
He had survived countless dangerous situations before, and he had not reached his current position by allowing fear to control him.
’I don’t believe I can’t defeat a single undead servant.’ The thought restored some of his courage.
He tightened his grip around the window frame and prepared to continue downward.
The undead above was already approaching. Its black robes fluttered violently as it moved along the wall, its hollow eyes fixed on him with an unnatural intensity.
He completely ignored the undead chasing him from above as he pushed himself away from the fifth-floor window.
Whoosh!
He continued his descent.
One floor closer.
As for the undead below, it remained waiting. Seeing this, the figure gritted his teeth as he descended toward it..
If the undead wanted to stop him, then he would fight.
With his weapon hidden beneath his robe, he did not believe he was going to lose.
Although he had already witnessed the terrifying strength of these undead, he firmly believed in his victory.
