Meanwhile...

In the battle between Narg and the orc with the powerful cleave, things remained at a stalemate.

Narg was more focused on keeping the casualties to a minimum, while the orc was only concerned with landing an attack that would finally put an end to the goblin standing before him.

The orc had noticed that Narg had been rather conservative with his attacks, rarely committing himself to an offensive exchange whenever there was a chance that doing so might put the surrounding goblins or buildings at risk.

So it pressed relentlessly.

Cleave after cleave tore through the air, each attack carrying enough destructive force to threaten anything caught along its path.

Narg swerved and weaved around the attacks, dark tendrils trailing behind him as he moved, but after avoiding another incoming cleave, he suddenly noticed where the attack was heading.

One of the buildings.

Narg was certain there were still fleeing goblins in the path the cleave was headed.

His expression changed.

He could avoid the attack, but doing so would simply allow the cleave to continue forward and strike the buildings behind him all the way to the barrier.

So instead of moving out of the way, Narg planted his feet and prepared to tank the attack himself.

It was a regrettable move, though.

"Gaah!!"

Narg exclaimed as the cleave struck him with a heavy thump, the impact driving him backward as his dark tendrils immediately surged forward to intercept the attack.

The tendrils wrapped around the incoming force, twisting and tightening as they struggled against the destructive edge of the cleave. For several seconds, the two forces clashed violently, the ground beneath Narg's feet cracking under the pressure before the attack finally dissipated.

Narg was thrown down onto all fours.

He had reinforced his body with multiple layers of dark tendrils, wrapping them around his flesh like an additional layer of armor to absorb as much of the impact as possible.

But despite that, the attack had still managed to get through.

A massive gash ran across his chest, blood flowing from the wound before the dark tendrils immediately began moving to repair it. They crawled over the injured area, pulling the torn flesh back together and sealing the wound with unnatural speed.

Narg clenched his teeth.

He and the orc had one important similarity.

Both of them possessed insane regenerative abilities.

If this had simply been a battle between two opponents trying to outlast each other, the fight could have become a brutal contest of endurance, with neither side easily capable of putting the other down for good.

But Narg wasn't fighting under normal circumstances.

He was constantly worried about the goblins around him.

Every attack he avoided had the potential to hit someone else. Every time he moved, he had to consider whether his opponent could use that opening to destroy another section of the clan.

And that limitation was slowly becoming a disadvantage.

As cold and rational as Narg might appear, there was something he could never completely suppress.

He was sentimental.

The lives around him mattered.

And his opponent was beginning to understand that.

The orc prepared another attack.

Narg watched the movement carefully, his dark tendrils tightening around his arms as he prepared himself for the next cleave. He couldn't bring himself to tank another hit, not after the last attack had nearly torn through his defenses.

So this time, he moved.

Narg rolled out of the way just as the orc swung.

BOOM!

The cleave tore through the space where he had been standing and slammed into the buildings behind him.

BOOM!

Another structure collapsed as the destructive force continued forward.

BOOM!

The final impact sent debris scattering across the street.

Narg landed on his feet and clicked his teeth in frustration as he watched the damage spread.

More buildings had been destroyed.

And there was no telling how many goblins had been caught by the destruction.

Before he could move again, he heard a voice from behind him.

"Why care about the surroundings? Focus on taking down your foe."

Narg's expression darkened.

He turned toward the strange voice and saw a fox with numerous tails staring at him calmly from a short distance away.

Narg blinked, confused by what he was seeing.

What is the chief's pet doing here?

The fox's tails swayed gently behind her as she continued watching the battle.

"You..." Ariel said, her eyes narrowing slightly. "You're just like the chief, aren't you? Obsessing over meaningless details."

Narg frowned.

"Shut up, fox!" he retorted. "If you're here to help. Help. If not, walk away."

Ariel simply stared at him.

A knowing expression on her face,

Another cleave came at him, and Narg leaped out of the way, twisting his body in midair as the attack passed beneath him. The moment his feet left the ground, he spread several dark tendrils across the earth, sending them crawling toward the orc with frightening speed.

The tendrils moved like living shadows, spreading over the ground and twisting around broken stones and debris as they rushed toward their target.

The orc reacted immediately.

It lunged into the air, raising its weapon above its head before swinging downward with ferocious force.

BOOM!

The resulting cleave crashed into the ground, splitting the earth and destroying the mass of dark tendrils before they could reach it. Dirt and shattered stone were thrown into the air from the impact, while the remaining tendrils recoiled and twisted uselessly across the ground.

The orc landed heavily.

And before Narg could take advantage of the opening, it unleashed another deadly power cleave.

Narg's eyes narrowed.

He swerved to the side, narrowly avoiding the attack as the destructive slash tore through an already ruined building behind him. What remained of the structure was reduced to even more rubble before the cleave finally lost its momentum against the barrier protecting the workshop.

Narg clicked his teeth.

The fox's voice rang out again from behind him.

"Why are you holding back, goblin?"

Narg glanced toward Ariel but didn't answer immediately.

His eyes remained fixed on the orc.

"My ability thrives in space and causes total destruction to everything around me," he finally said. "Battling in the middle of the clan is a restriction."

He clenched his fist as another piece of rubble fell from the ruined building.

"If this were anywhere else, I wouldn't...
