Narg's eyes widened.
The other side of the portal?
During the battle, Ariel had noticed one of the portals the enemies had used to enter the clan. Rather than simply ignoring it, she had slipped through while the fighting was still raging around them.
The moment she emerged on the other side, she had found herself in the middle of an army.
There had been no time to investigate.
Ariel had reacted immediately, using the same spatial movement ability she had inherited from the chief to warp herself back to safety before the surrounding forces could notice her.
From her new position, however, she had remained hidden and watched the goblins and orcs as they spoke among themselves, gathering information while waiting for the right opportunity.
There, Ariel had learned about their plan.
The army wasn't simply gathered there without purpose. They had been preparing to enter the clan at a specific time, waiting for the right moment to launch their full attack.
And according to what Ariel had overheard, that moment would come after the graveyard was destroyed.
That was when everything clicked for her.
She couldn't deal with an entire army by herself, so she needed to get help, and there was only one person besides Eli whose abilities could make a significant difference against a force this large.
Narg.
That was why she had gone to find him.
"They plan to attack the clan after destroying the graveyard." She continued, revealing the information she gathered to Narg.
Narg's eyes widened in shock.
That made sense.
Of course they were targeting the graveyard.
The goblins' ability to resurrect was one of the greatest advantages the clan possessed, and destroying the place where that resurrection occurred would remove it completely. Without the graveyard, every goblin who died during the invasion would remain dead.
Why didn't I think of that?
Narg's expression darkened as the implications settled in.
He was about to speak, but Ariel interrupted him before he could get the words out.
"Don't worry. I'll be heading there now. Your job is to take care of the army in front of you."
Narg stared at her.
The fox spoke with an unusual amount of confidence, as though she had already decided what both of them were going to do.
"Did the chief give you that order?" Narg asked.
Ariel smiled.
"I guess you can say that. After all, at this point, I'm an extension of him."
Narg frowned.
He found the fox's response bizarre, especially the way she said it so casually, as though being an extension of the chief was something that required no further explanation. Still, whatever the exact meaning behind her words, it didn't make the instructions she had given him any less important.
Narg looked toward the army again.
There were far too many enemies for him to handle casually, and now that he knew what they were planning, allowing them to remain here was no longer an option.
"So... can you take care of them?"
Narg exhaled slowly as he stepped forward, his eyes remaining fixed on the massive army ahead.
"I told you earlier. My ability thrives in a space where I can fight without regard to my surroundings."
Ariel stared at him for a moment.
"That doesn't answer my question. But I'll take that as a yes."
Before Narg could say any other word, Ariel vanished.
Narg watched the spot where she had been standing for a brief moment before turning his attention back toward the army of goblins and orcs gathered before him.
The goblins watched him with varying expressions of curiosity and confusion, clearly unable to understand why he had willingly stepped into a place surrounded by so many enemies.
Eli had warned him many times about how dangerous his ability was and, more importantly, about the danger it posed if he ever lost control of it. That was the reason Narg had always been so restrictive with its use.
His ability wasn't simply powerful.
It was destructive.
When unleashed without restraint, it could affect everything around him, friend or foe, and that was precisely why fighting inside the clan had been such a restriction.
But now...
He was in a place where he didn't have to worry about that.
There were no buildings he needed to protect, no goblins caught in the middle of the fight, and no allies nearby who could be caught in the destruction.
There was nothing but enemies in front of him.
Narg's grin widened.
Certainly, he could afford to lose himself in his power for a bit.
And that would certainly be enough.
Belmut, the orc he had been battling earlier, stepped forward from among the gathered army. His massive frame remained tense, his weapon held firmly in his grasp as he stared at Narg with suspicion.
"I don't know what you're planning, goblin, but you made a huge mistake coming here."
Narg shook his head.
"I don't think so."
His grin remained.
"I believe I made the right choice."
Belmut frowned.
"Goblin. You couldn't take me down on your own. What makes you think you'd be able to take me down along with my army?"
Before Narg could respond, another goblin stepped forward from among the gathered forces.
"Belmut, what is this?"
This goblin wore regal armor that stood out from the equipment worn by the others. Even without knowing who he was, his presence made it obvious that he wasn't an ordinary soldier. The aura surrounding him was powerful enough to make Narg's eyes narrow slightly.
Most likely a Chosen.
"I don't know," Belmut responded. "I was battling with that goblin back in enemy territory, then all of a sudden, I was here. I believe it had something to do with the fox that just disappeared."
"Is that so?"
The regal goblin shifted his attention toward Narg, slowly looking him over from head to toe.
There was arrogance in his gaze.
Not the kind that came from simple confidence, either.
It was the absolute certainty of someone who believed he was superior to everyone standing around him.
He then began walking toward Narg, his armor making a faint metallic sound with each step.
"To think you couldn't finish off a regular goblin in seconds."
He glanced toward Belmut with clear disdain.
"You embarrass your kind, Belmut."
Belmut clicked his teeth at the annoying remark.
"I wouldn't...
