Loki stood firm for only a moment longer, his eyes briefly shifting toward the goblins running up the slope. The situation there was steadily worsening.

The Mok tribe warriors had initially relied on their superior agility and combat experience to weave through the volleys of arrows raining down from above, twisting their bodies, knocking arrows aside with their weapons and using the uneven terrain as temporary cover.

However, the kobolds had the advantage of height and numbers, and every second the distance between the arrows became smaller as the defenders adjusted their aim. One goblin was struck through the thigh and stumbled, another took an arrow through the shoulder, and a third barely managed to keep moving after an arrow tore across his side.

Loki’s gaze then returned to the corpses scattered across the farmland, and what he saw made the last hope in his chest slowly collapse.

Thin trails of blood were crawling through the grass and dirt like living crimson veins, gathering from every corpse and wound before steadily making their way toward Ka’z. The Ashmork clan’s blood magic was famous throughout their region, and Loki understood better than most what it meant when a blood mage was surrounded by a plentiful source of blood.

Their greatest weakness was often the lack of material to fuel their spells, but once a battlefield became soaked in blood, that weakness disappeared. The more enemies Ka’z killed, the stronger his position became. Loki had already witnessed the kobold heal wounds, strengthen his body and launch attacks using the blood of fallen warriors. If the battle continued, Ka’z would only become more dangerous.

’We lost...’ Loki’s eyes trembled slightly as the thought forced its way into his mind.

Every instinct in his body rejected the conclusion, yet the battlefield refused to give him another answer. Ka’z currently had access to an abundance of blood, possessed frightening mastery over magic and could somehow wield the Words of Power that the Ashmork clan had always considered one of their greatest advantages over the other races of the Evergreen Forest.

Even if Loki somehow managed to defeat Ka’z, it would never remain a one on one battle. Once the remaining Mok tribe warriors died, the kobolds above would descend on him together. Loki might have been arrogant, but he was not stupid enough to remain conceited when death was staring directly at him.

His teeth ground together as his fingers tightened around his spear. For a brief moment, his gaze met Ka’z’s across the battlefield, and neither of them needed words to understand what the other was thinking. Ka’z wanted to kill him. Loki wanted to kill Ka’z. Yet only one of them still had the luxury of choosing how the battle continued.

Gritting his teeth, Loki abruptly turned his back on the battlefield and exploded into motion. His body surged forward in violent bursts of speed as mana flooded through his muscles, each step tearing into the earth beneath him while he pushed his exhausted body beyond what it wanted to endure.

"You..." Ka’z growled as he watched the goblin flee, but several system notifications suddenly flashed through his vision, narrowly catching his attention.

His eyes briefly narrowed as more information appeared, yet he did not dare waste even a second reading them. Whatever the system wanted to tell him could wait. Loki was already disappearing into the uneven terrain, and Ka’z could tell from their previous exchange that the goblin’s speed was one of his greatest strengths. Chasing him blindly through unfamiliar territory would only create an opportunity for an ambush.

With a frustrated sigh, Ka’z turned his attention toward the three Mok tribe warriors who were nearing the top of the slope. Drak, Gruk, Bigi and Bruk were already standing forward with their weapons held tightly in their hands as they prepared for the inevitable close quarters combat.

Their expressions were serious. These goblins had already proven themselves to be far more skilled than the ordinary warriors they had encountered before, and even with the advantage of height, the kobolds knew that allowing them to reach the top could turn the situation ugly.

The three goblins had barely taken another step when Ka’z raised Ashin Grim.

Swoosh!

Three arcs of violent blood struck from behind with terrifying speed, cutting through their backs and tearing deep into their bodies. The goblins froze in place for a brief moment, their faces twisting in confusion before pain finally registered. Blood spilled from their mouths as their legs gave out beneath them, and one after another, their bodies rolled helplessly down the slope.

The kobolds who had already prepared themselves for close combat could only stare.

Everyone’s eyes eventually shifted toward Ka’z as he began walking in their direction with Ashin Grim resting over his shoulder. His muscles were gradually losing their unnatural bulk while crimson steam poured from his body in thin waves. The bright red shade covering his scales slowly faded, revealing his usual golden color underneath, although more faint crimson tint still lingered across parts of his body. He briefly glanced at the last three goblins he had killed before walking past them without another look and beginning his climb up the slope.

Thrak stood there with his bow still raised, his mouth slightly open as he watched Ka’z approach. His expression carried the kind of disbelief that words could barely contain.

"He’s a monster," he finally muttered, lowering the weapon slightly.

His voice was filled with genuine shock. They had watched Damian fight Lucy and Brox barely a week ago back at the colony, but the Ka’z standing before them now felt different. He was stronger, faster and far more comfortable using blood magic than he had been during their previous battles. Every spell seemed to come more naturally to him now, and every fight appeared to sharpen his instincts further.

"He may even surpass Tud’or in a year if he keeps growing like this," Luk said, only to immediately receive a hard smack at the back of his head from Drak.

"Don’t be stupid. He’s amazing, but he would need at least three years to get to Tud’or’s level," Drak scolded as Luk rubbed the back of his head with an offended expression.

This was not Drak blindly praising Tud’or. He had witnessed the battle between Tud’or and Grash with his own eyes, and the memory had permanently changed his understanding of what truly powerful warriors could do.

The battlefield had become a place of absolute chaos where the two leaders moved like monsters rather than ordinary magic beasts. Anyone foolish enough to approach them would have been killed by accident, and neither of the two combatants would have even noticed.

Even Grash’s own generals had desperately fled from the range of their attacks as trees were destroyed and the earth was torn apart around them. In the middle of all that destruction, Tud’or had still emerged victorious. If his body had not failed when it did, all he needed was one more decisive strike and Grash would have died.

Drak would not allow Tud’or’s legacy to be diminished simply because the younger kobolds had become fascinated by Ka’z’s rapid growth. Ka’z was extraordinary, but extraordinary did not mean invincible.

Ka’z, meanwhile, remained completely unaware of their argument. As he climbed higher, his attention drifted toward the western horizon. They were standing close to the edge of the eastern region, and from their elevated position, he had a clearer view of the distant mountain located at the center of the Evergreen Forest.

His steps slowly stopped.

Even from this distance, the mountain was breathtaking. It towered above the surrounding landscape, and faint rainbow colors appeared to wrap around sections of it from the lower slopes all the way toward its peak. At first glance, the colors almost seemed like an illusion created by the evening light, but Ka’z knew better.

Those were fucking Aether crystals!

For several seconds, Ka’z simply stared at the mountain. His thoughts returned to everything he had learned over the past few days. The Evergreen forest was a treasure house.

"Everyone, pack up. We are leaving. We can’t stay here any longer than we have to," Ka’z ordered as he finally reached the top of the slope.

Everyone immediately began moving. The excitement from their victory faded as they collected their weapons, supplies and whatever equipment they had brought with them. They understood that remaining near the farmland would only attract more goblins, and after the destruction they had caused, the Ashmork clan would undoubtedly begin searching the entire area.

Ka’z remained standing at the edge of the slope for a few moments longer, his gaze still fixed on the distant mountain.

"One day, I’ll make all of this forest mine and expand my dominion into a massive empire that will cover all the regions from the north to the south and east to the west," he muttered quietly to himself.

Perhaps he was being greedy, but Ka’z did not care. The more he learned about the Evergreen Forest, the more impossible it became for him to ignore its potential. If the Vaal’kor colony could secure these resources and unite the regions under one powerful system, they could become richer and stronger than any of the scattered clans currently living within the forest. With fertile lands, iron, precious metals, and Aether crystals, they could eventually become a force capable of standing against the major powers throughout Athedal.

For the first time since arriving in this world, Ka’z could clearly see the shape of the future he wanted.

This was his dream.

....Meanwhile....

Loki stumbled through the uneven eastern terrain until his body finally refused to move any farther. His legs trembled violently beneath him as he drove his spear into the ground for support, his chest heaving up and down while sweat rolled across his face.

He had repeatedly forced his body to use Mana Burst throughout the battle and then pushed himself even harder while escaping. His muscles felt as though they were tearing apart from the inside, and the numbness in his arms made it difficult to maintain a proper grip on his weapon.

Bam!

His strength finally gave out, and Loki collapsed to one knee. He leaned heavily against his spear, his head hanging low while he struggled to control his breathing.

"Just what kind of monsters does that fucking colony have?" he gasped.

Ka’z was a mere teenage in beast standards, yet he could use blood magic with terrifying proficiency, wield the Words of Power and fight warriors far older and more experienced than himself without showing fear.

Loki’s fingers tightened around his spear as anger and humiliation burned inside him. He had left the village intending to prove everyone wrong. He wanted to return with the heads of the invaders and force the entire Ashmork clan to acknowledge that he was worthy of becoming chieftain.

Instead, he had barely escaped with his life.

Rumble!

The sound of galloping suddenly reached his ears and Loki slowly raised his head.

Dozens of mounted warriors were racing toward him across the rocky terrain, their movements kicking up dust as they approached. At the front of the group were Crow and Kia, both riding ahead of the others as their expressions shifted the moment they noticed the condition Loki was in.

Several faces twisted in shock.

Loki’s clothes were damaged, blood covered parts of his body and exhaustion was written plainly across his face. More importantly, he was alone.

The Mok tribe warriors who had followed him were nowhere to be seen. For several seconds, no one spoke as they realized what happened.

LOKI LOST?!
