Loki sat silently inside the cell with his legs crossed and his eyes shut, his back resting against the cold stone wall as though he had chosen the place for meditation rather than imprisonment.

Unlike ordinary prisoners, he was not chained. The Ashmork clan had quickly realized that there was little point in trying. Simple chains would never hold someone like Loki, and their village was not advanced enough to forge restraints capable of containing a warrior of his strength. Once his body recovered from the exhaustion caused by the battle and his repeated use of Mana Burst, he could easily break free if he truly wanted to.

It would not be wrong to say that Loki was only sitting inside the cell because he allowed it.

"You bloody fool... Because of your stupidity, ten men who served your father for decades died all for nothing!" Molu snarled from the other side of the bars, his face twisted with anger as he glared at the silent goblin.

Even in the middle of his rage, he still held an untouched drumstick in one hand. The absurd sight would normally have drawn laughter from someone, but there was nothing amusing about the atmosphere inside the prison corridor.

The news of the Mok tribe warriors’ deaths had already begun spreading through the village, and their families were grieving while the rest of the clan struggled to understand how ten of their strongest warriors could disappear in a single expedition.

"Don’t rile him up. We just need to know what he saw first," Kia scolded, shooting Molu a sharp look.

The newly appointed chieftain immediately turned toward her and gave an awkward smile.

"Right. I know. I just..." He glanced back at Loki and his expression hardened again. "Ten good warriors, Kia."

Kia’s eyes softened slightly, but she said nothing else.

Crow remained leaning against the stone wall nearby with his arms crossed over his chest. His expression was calm, yet his eyes remained fixed on Loki with unusual intensity. Loki was an impulsive fool. Crow had said that openly in front of the entire village and had never regretted it. However, stupidity did not mean weakness.

Crow understood that better than anyone.

Just as he had said during the chieftain selection, Loki had beaten him so badly in their previous duel that Crow eventually turned toward magic in an attempt to level the difference between them. Even after learning more spells and gaining greater control over his mana, Crow had never truly been able to match Loki in direct combat.

Despite the younger goblin’s reckless nature, he was incredibly capable on the battlefield.

That was why seeing him return in such a state disturbed Crow more than he wanted to admit. Loki had not merely been physically defeated. Something inside him had changed. The confidence, arrogance and certainty that had always followed him seemed to have been stripped away and replaced with something far more unsettling.

Fear.

Who the hell could break someone as strong willed as Loki?

Thud!

Everyone except Loki turned toward the sound of approaching footsteps. The steady tapping of a cane against stone echoed through the corridor before Varg slowly appeared at the entrance. The old goblin moved carefully, his frail body supported by his cane as his tired eyes immediately fell upon the figure inside the cell.

For several seconds, Varg said nothing. He could see this boy had been broken by realities he never knew existed.

"Leave us. I wish to speak to him alone," Varg said quietly.

No one argued. Kia gave the old goblin a respectful bow, followed by Crow and Molu. Even Molu’s anger disappeared as he turned away from the cell.

"We’ll be nearby," Kia said.

Varg simply nodded.

Once the others had disappeared down the corridor, silence returned to the prison. Varg slowly lowered himself to the ground outside the cell, adjusting his position several times until he found somewhere comfortable enough for his old body. Only after settling down did Loki’s eyes finally open.

The anger that had once burned inside them was gone. What remained was sadness.

"You sent my father to his death," Loki said heavily.

Varg stared at him for a moment before slowly shaking his head.

"I told your father that I saw a dragon south of our great village. I told him that if given enough time to bloom, it would overshadow this entire clan. Your father made the decision to strike them down," Varg confessed, his voice carrying an unusual bitterness.

Loki studied the old goblin’s face before slowly lowering his gaze. He could not deny the logic behind those words. If what Varg had seen was true, then Grash had made the only reasonable choice at the moment.

"If that is true..." Loki murmured, his fingers tightening around his knee. "Then you were not wrong."

Varg remained silent for a moment before asking, "What did you see?"

Loki suddenly chuckled. It was a quiet and bitter sound. He shook his head as one hand slowly covered half of his face while the other stared at his own open palm.

"The real question is... what didn’t I see?"

Varg’s eyes narrowed.

Loki slowly lowered his hand. "One kobold alone was more proficient in orthodox and unorthodox magic than all our shamans combined. He could control his scales and harden them like dragons in stories. He could heal wounds using blood magic and somehow mastered the Words of Power."

Buzz!

For the first time in decades, genuine shock appeared in Varg’s eyes.

It would have been easier to accept if those abilities were distributed among several different kobolds. But one person carrying all of those abilities?

It made no sense.

Even if the heavens favored someone, they should not be this biased.

"Do you know what was more terrifying?" Loki asked as he raised his face again.

A bitter smile appeared on his lips.

For the first time in a very long while, Varg felt something close to fear. A part of him did not want to hear the answer, but Loki continued regardless.

"The kobold is just three years old. According to him, he stopped my father’s advance twice when Grash first went south. The boy even carries Ashin Grim into battle now as his personal trophy." Loki laughed again, but there was nothing humorous behind the sound. "I have never felt so outclassed in every aspect of life."

Buzz!

Varg abruptly pushed himself upright. The sudden movement sent pain through his old body, and his hand immediately moved toward his chest as his face tightened.

Ashin Grim.

The weapon Grash had personally forged after the subjugation of the Ashin tribe.

The weapon carried by the greatest warrior the Ashmork clan had produced in generations.

How could such a weapon now be in the hands of a three year old kobold?

There was no way the old chieftain could rest peacefully in the afterlife knowing what had happened to his legacy.

"Elder! Elder!" Loki shouted in panic.

He immediately rose to his feet and rushed toward the bars, gripping them tightly as he pushed his head forward.

"SOMEONE HELP HIM!"

Crow and Kia immediately raced into the corridor, followed shortly by Molu. They froze when they saw Varg clutching his chest.

Kia hurried toward him, but Varg slowly raised one palm.

"Stop," he breathed.

Everyone froze.

Only a few seconds later did Molu arrive fully in the corridor, his face filled with confusion while a drumstick remained caught between his greasy lips. He slowly removed it from his mouth as he stared at Varg.

"Elder?"

Varg gradually lowered his hand from his chest and raised his face toward Loki’s panicked expression.

"What about his army?" he asked between laborious breaths. "How many are they... and how dangerous are they?"

Loki’s face stiffened. He slowly lowered his head and shook it.

"He didn’t need them in battle."

The corridor became completely silent.

Loki continued, his voice becoming heavier with every word. "That one kobold alone was enough to deal with all of us. He could even replicate my father’s wind storm spell. He was literally unstoppable by himself. The others only needed to hide on a slope above us and watch, so I barely saw them. We were completely outclassed."

Buzz!

Crow, Kia and Molu’s eyes widened. It was one thing for Loki to lose and it was another thing entirely for Loki to openly admit defeat.

Crow slowly straightened from the wall, his face becoming unusually serious. Kia stared at Loki with disbelief, while Molu’s expression gradually lost every trace of its earlier anger. Whoever this mysterious kobold was, he had certainly done a number on Loki.

Varg slowly nodded as he finally forced himself back onto his feet. His breathing remained uneven, but his eyes had become colder.

He stretched his hand through the bars and gently patted Loki’s fallen shoulder.

"It’s unfortunate that we lost ten loyal warriors to this monster, but your fight was not without benefits. At least now we know what kind of beast we are dealing with."

The moment Varg finished speaking, the weakness in his expression vanished. Pulling his hand away, he slowly turned and walked past the others. He only stopped when he reached Molu.

"Release him. This is not the time to imprison the best amongst us. We must all work together if we wish to see the Ashmork clan survive the disaster looming beyond our gates," Varg said in a strained but stern voice.

Molu’s expression immediately became serious. "I will without delay."

Varg nodded in acknowledgement. He gently patted Molu’s shoulder before continuing down the corridor. Kia quickly followed after him, keeping close enough to support him if his body gave out again.

Molu waited until Varg had moved farther away before turning back toward Loki. The anger in his eyes had changed. It was no longer directed at the reckless goblin who had disobeyed him. Now it was directed at the enemy responsible for the deaths of ten warriors and the fear that had begun spreading through the Ashmork clan.

He stepped closer to the cell.

"You will tell me everything you told him," Molu said sternly. "And don’t leave out a single detail."

Anything capable of leaving Varg in such a state was definitely not a problem the Ashmork clan could afford to ignore.
