The voice faded, out of thin air, a table appeared before Adam and Cecilia, laid across it were ten herbs of the exact same type, each one flowing with vibrant colors, clearly no ordinary specimens. Only their sizes and ages differed.

Adam and Cecilia exchanged a glance, serious expressions settling onto both their faces, of course, this was nothing more than an act born from mutual understanding, Adam was a Supreme-grade Alchemist, no one understood herbs better than him.

"If you wish to give up now, you may, I won’t make things difficult for you, just like that kid who came last time, he gave up right when he reached this point."

"Was the kid Senior is talking about wearing a green robe and speaking with a very gentle voice?" Adam asked with a smile.

"Yes, how did you know?"

"Nothing, just asking."

Adam had guessed it was the Book Saint, and sure enough, it was, inwardly, he felt a trace of admiration, as expected of a Saint capable of fighting Erlang Shen, to think he actually made it this far.

"No need, I choose to continue the challenge."

Adam closed his eyes, drew in a deep breath, and began carefully observing the ten herbs before him, shapes, scents, medicinal properties, each one flashed rapidly through his mind as he searched for differences.

To his surprise, aside from slight variations in scent, everything about the ten herbs was exactly the same.

Now this was getting interesting, ever since Adam had comprehended the Dao of Alchemy, he had not once encountered a truly difficult problem, he picked up the herbs to continue observing, although the scents differed, those differences stemmed from variations in age and growing region, none of it proved any particular herb was a fake.

Did he really have to taste them?

Adam narrowed his eyes, at that same moment, a flash of inspiration struck.

The stone door at the entrance had tested touch.

The zither music that followed had tested hearing.

The labyrinth had tested vision, and the herbs before him were testing smell and taste.

These were the five human senses, that Senior was testing his five senses.

Adam’s mind raced, he believed he now knew which Great Emperor’s resting palace this belonged to.

Throughout history, a certain Great Emperor had left a heavy and colorful mark upon the world, having attained such a rank, his strength was beyond doubt, however, what people spoke of most was the fact that his opportunity for attaining the Dao had come from the senses.

That was right, the senses.

As long as one was a living creature, they would possess senses, according to records, when this Great Emperor faced enemies, his opponents suffered immensely, directly stripped of all five senses, to the moment of death, they would not even know how they had died, other than their soul, everything about them seemed erased from this world entirely.

Legend had it that relying solely on touch, hearing, sight, smell, and taste, he could see through all things, knowing everything and understanding all, he was respectfully addressed as the Five Senses Great Emperor.

The name did not sound particularly lofty, but his combat power was incomparably terrifying, being stripped of every sense the instant a fight began? How could anyone contest that?

Adam’s heart surged, he finally understood the trial before him, he was not merely identifying herbs, he was undergoing the five senses trial left behind by the Five Senses Great Emperor, observing the herbs could not rely on sight and smell alone.

He closed his eyes, drew another breath, and picked up the herbs one by one, brushing his hands gently over each, this time, he used touch to feel the uniqueness of every herb, its texture and temperature.

It was no easy task, although the textures differed slightly, the differences were minute and elusive, all within a reasonable range of natural variation.

Adam knew he could not rely on touch alone, he raised an herb to his ear and tapped it lightly, hoping for some distinguishing sound, he still could not hear any difference.

Cecilia watched her Young Master’s almost bizarre actions, feeling at a loss, what was he doing?

[Your comprehension is God-Tier. You have comprehended the secret of the five senses and obtained the innate divine ability "Five Senses Fusion"!]

A voice echoed in his mind, Adam was astonished to discover he could fuse his five senses together, when a specific sense was needed, he could invoke the others to enhance it, it was not merely a fivefold enhancement, removing the other senses temporarily allowed the remaining one to become incomparably sharp.

At the same time, he faintly sensed five streams of aura on Cecilia’s body, streams he seemingly could control, Adam understood instantly, those were Cecilia’s five senses.

Could this be the innate divine ability of the Five Senses Great Emperor?

Adam drew in a breath of cold air, as expected of the system, truly amazing.

He immediately fused his five senses into one, using a single overarching sense to feel each herb as a whole, as time passed, he immersed himself in this wondrous sensation, his senses grew far more acute, he could perceive the subtle energy within the herbs and feel the life force pulsing inside each one.

He felt he had advanced even further along the Dao of Alchemy.

And yet, he still could not find the one true herb among the ten.

Adam’s brows furrowed tightly, he had fused his five senses and possessed unprecedentedly acute perception, why could he not find that special herb? Could it be that even the Five Senses Great Emperor himself would fail here?

He closed his eyes, trying to calm himself, there was one sense he still had not tried, taste, that voice had said it plainly, only one herb was non-toxic, while the other nine were highly poisonous.

With a nine-in-ten chance of poison, he was afraid to gamble, did he truly have to taste them? Probably even the most arrogant would not have the courage to make this bet.

Wait a minute.

A flash of inspiration suddenly struck Adam’s mind, courage, that was right.

Since the Five Senses Great Emperor had set up this trial, it definitely was not just to tell adventurers who he was, it definitely had a deeper meaning, when a person loses their five senses, they can only rely on their intuition and courage to protect themselves, that was the legendary sixth sense!
