"I had no choice! It seems my village has already been discovered by the Heavenly Court, please, help us!" The woman in white revealed a pleading expression.
The middle-aged man’s expression froze, his burly frame seeming to deflate. "I’m sorry, now is not the right time, we cannot expose ourselves."
The woman in white reacted as if she had heard the most despair-inducing words in the world, the light in her eyes instantly faded.
"How could this happen? Why would the Heavenly Court suddenly target my village?" Her voice was laced with utter despair.
"Go back, if the Heavenly Court discovers someone is missing, it will be very troublesome." A look of pity and reluctance flashed in the middle-aged man’s eyes, but his hands were tied.
"Sob sob... why..." The woman in white wept bitterly.
Adam narrowed his eyes, so this place was actually a secret rendezvous point, no wonder people kept showing up, moreover, it seemed they bore a grudge against the Heavenly Court.
Hiding in the bushes, Adam felt ripples of unease in his heart, he quietly observed the scene before him, the conversation between the two made him realize something, this seemed to be another world ruled by the Heavenly Court, the realization made him uncomfortable.
It meant his actions would be heavily restricted, perhaps this world, just like the Land of Life, possessed a powerful world barrier, if so, the difficulty of leaving would increase drastically.
He could not help but wonder, just how many Lands of Life did the Heavenly Court have? Used to cultivate Source? Just how many of the Three Thousand Worlds had been transformed by the Heavenly Court?
And what were the identities of these two? What did they mean by now is not the time? A pile of questions echoed through Adam’s mind.
Adam still did not act rashly, even knowing the other party might be victims of the Heavenly Court, he had to remain calm and continue observing, sometimes, the enemy of an enemy was not necessarily a friend.
The woman seemed to have cried herself out, she raised her head, looking at the man with red, swollen eyes, and asked hoarsely, "Then what should we do? Are we just going to wait here to die?"
The middle-aged man fell silent before slowly speaking. "We will figure something out, although the Heavenly Court is powerful, they are not invincible, we have been secretly gathering our strength, when the time is right, we will launch a counterattack."
A trace of numbness flashed through the woman’s eyes. "Really? Can we really defeat the Heavenly Court? Since we joined you, no fewer than ten villages have been wiped out."
The man remained silent for a long time. "I know it’s hard to accept, but we have no other choice, given the Heavenly Court’s might, we must be extraordinarily careful, a single misstep, and we fall into a bottomless abyss."
"Hundreds of years of effort would vanish like a bubble."
"Go back for now, don’t arouse suspicion, I will contact the others to discuss a countermeasure."
With that, the man turned to leave, the woman in white seemed to want to say something more, but in the end merely opened her mouth without making a sound, she watched him leave until his figure disappeared from sight.
Having witnessed all this from the bushes, Adam had formed some conjectures, there was indeed an organization bearing a grudge against the Heavenly Court, and these two were its liaisons.
A ripple of hope stirred in his heart, perhaps this organization could serve as his breakthrough to leave this world, however, Adam knew now was not the time to act rashly, he needed more information before making any decision.
He decided to tail the middle-aged man and wait for an opportunity, Adam cautiously followed, maintaining appropriate distance to avoid detection.
The man traversed through patches of forest, clearly very familiar with the area, he did not pause, heading straight in a specific direction, Adam trailed behind, pondering his next move.
He needed to understand the feud between this organization and the Heavenly Court, and whether they had the capability to fight back, if possible, he wanted to borrow their power to leave this world, but he knew this would not be easy, he needed the right moment to approach core members and obtain intelligence, the current opportunity did not seem right.
The middle-aged man did not notice Adam following, he traveled until he arrived before a remote cave, he looked around to ensure no one had followed before stepping inside, Adam hesitated at the entrance but ultimately decided to follow.
He carefully entered, finding it pitch black inside, he took out a talisman and chanted an incantation, the talisman ignited, emitting a faint light that illuminated his surroundings.
The cave was not large, it had a few stone chambers and a central hall, seemingly used for meetings, the hall was completely empty, and the man was nowhere to be seen.
Adam’s heart stirred, he decided to wait for the man to return, he found a hidden corner, sat down, and closed his eyes to rest.
Time trickled by, slowly wearing at his patience, just as he began to grow impatient, the sound of footsteps echoed through the cave, he opened his eyes, the middle-aged man had returned.
The man did not notice Adam and walked straight into one of the stone chambers, Adam decided to follow and take a look.
He cautiously approached the door and peered through the crack, the middle-aged man sat before a stone table with a map and several sheets of paper laid out before him, he was earnestly leafing through them, seemingly oblivious to Adam’s presence.
Adam quietly crept closer, wanting to see what was written on those papers.
However, just as he was about to make out the contents, the man suddenly raised his head and looked toward the doorway, Adam’s heart tightened, and he immediately held his breath.
The middle-aged man seemed a bit suspicious, he stood up, walked to the door, and peered outside, but he found no trace of Adam.
