Kael pulled the cold steel of the Xel'Naga Splicer from his tactical coat.

He was ready to force a line through to Nyx.

He stopped.

The temperature behind him collapsed.

Frost raced across the asphalt. Every breath crystallized before it left his lips.

"Seriously..."

Vespera's whisper vibrated right through the iron plates in Kael's armor.

"...touch what's mine again..."

"...and I'll feed on your screaming soul, holy dog."

It wasn't a girl's voice.

It was a multi-layered demonic chorus echoing from five different depths of the Abyss, dripping with pure, unadulterated jealousy.

Seraphina didn't flinch.

Not even a twitch in her stance.

Her golden eyes narrowed into deadly, razor-thin slits.

Her calloused fingers instinctively dropped, wrapping tight around the worn leather of her greatsword hilt.

"He doesn't belong to you, parasite."

Sera's corrupted holy aura surged like a dying star fighting a black hole.

Golden light, stained with dark purple veins, slammed directly against the suffocating abyssal frost.

"His soul is bound to no one," Sera growled, stepping forward until their foreheads almost touched.

"Least of all a leech from the Void."

"A leech?" Vespera giggled, though her eyes were burning with crimson malice.

"I am his sponsor. What did you give him? Oh, right. A broken shoulder and ten years of tragic baggage."

"I healed him!"

"You patched up a scratch with stolen light," Vespera hissed, her tail whipping the air with a loud SNAP.

"I am the reason he's still breathing!"

The temperature in the intersection plummeted below zero.

Frost blossomed across the rusted transit bus behind them like spiderwebs of shattered glass.

Two S-Rank cosmic entities.

Two walking natural disasters.

And they were ready to level three blocks of a dead city over who had the rights to a single mortal.

The heavy scent of dark orchids and ozone flooded the air, thick and intoxicating.

The atmosphere between them violently cracked with blue-white static electricity.

Two S-Rank cosmic forces were colliding in the middle of a dead city, ready to tear each other apart over a single mortal.

"Try it, holy dog," Vespera purred, her eyes glowing like blood in the dark.

"I'll carve that hypocritical crest right off your chest."

"Step one inch closer," Seraphina countered, her grip tightening until her gauntlets squeaked against the hilt.

"And I'll purge that abyssal filth from your bones."

"Enough."

Silence.

This story has been taken without authorization. Report any sightings.

Kael looked at neither of them.

"I belong to myself."

Kael interrupted.

His voice wasn't a shout.

It was just a low, gravelly rasp.

Yet it carried a sheer, terrifying weight of absolute killing intent that instantly suffocated both of their massive auras like a heavy wet blanket thrown over a dying fire.

Silence crashed over the ruined street.

Kael stood up from the cracked pavement, his tall frame towering over the kneeling Paladin.

He didn't even blink at the high-tier Succubus floating mere inches beside his face.

With absolute indifference, he casually raised his newly healed right arm and swatted Vespera's razor-sharp tail-blade clean away from Seraphina's neck.

CLANG.

The tail flicked back violently, but Kael didn't care.

He rolled his right shoulder in a slow, deliberate circle.

POP.

The joint popped loudly, the sharp sound echoing off the gutted concrete walls around them.

The blinding, bone-crushing agony was completely gone.

Seraphina's holy magic was a hell of a drug.

"Nice work on the shoulder, Sera," Kael muttered, not taking his eyes off the two walking disasters.

"Though I'd prefer if you two didn't wreck my newly repaired body by fighting like feral hounds over scrap metal."

Seraphina blinked, a sudden flush of embarrassment cutting through her lethal glare.

"Kael, I was merely...."

"Shut it," Kael said flatly.

He stared down the two insanely overpowered, absurdly dangerous women glaring at each other across the asphalt.

He didn't have time to play referee to a traumatized angel and a hyper-territorial demon.

"Vespera. Check the tunnel entrances. If anything moves, kill it quietly," Kael ordered, his silver eyes cold and unyielding.

Vespera scowled, her crimson eyes flashing with rebellious, aristocratic fire.

"I am not your guard dog, mortal."

Kael just stared at her.

His silver eyes were completely dead, devoid of a single shred of fear, hesitation, or submission.

He was the man who had just shot a singularity through a portal to mathematically execute a mech pilot.

He didn't bluff.

"Do I look like I'm asking for a vote?" Kael rasped, his voice dropping an octave deeper.

"Move."

"You wanted entertainment."

"Then don't give me a reason to terminate our agreement."

Vespera held his stare.

One second.

Two.

Three.

...

Her rebellion quietly filed for retirement.

The terrifying pressure of an ancient Void Lord suddenly faltered.

Then, she giggled.

A dark, incredibly inappropriate blush rose to her pale cheeks as her tail flicked playfully behind her.

"So bossy," she purred, the demonic multi-layered echo entirely fading from her voice.

"That is your charm..." she whispered, leaning so close her dark orchid breath brushed his jaw.

"Try not to die while my back is turned, darling."

She dissolved instantly into a thick purple mist, melting seamlessly into the shadows to do exactly what she was told.

Kael didn't even waste a breath on her shadow.

He turned his attention straight back to Seraphina.

"Sit down. Rest," Kael commanded, his tone leaving absolutely no room for debate.

"You're running on fumes."

Seraphina opened her mouth to argue, her Paladin pride demanding she stand guard and protect him.

"I can still fight," she forced out, her fingers tightening around her sword.

"A Vanguard vanguard unit could be tracking our mana residue right now. I won't let you..."

"Sera."

Kael looked at her, his voice softening just a fraction, revealing the bone-deep tiredness underneath his ruthless shell.

"Look at your hands. You're shaking."

Seraphina glanced down.

Her fingers were trembling violently, her knuckles white, her divine mana flickering like a dying candle in a gale.

"I..."

She couldn't finish the sentence.

The sheer, overwhelming physical and emotional exhaustion of the last twelve hours finally crashed over her body like a tidal wave.

Ten years of torture, a miraculous rescue, and a battle against orbital firepower had drained every last drop of her soul.

"Just... five minutes," she muttered, her pride yielding to cold reality.

She nodded weakly, slumping back against the rusted tires of a gutted transit bus, her massive greatsword resting heavily across her lap.

"Good girl," Kael murmured, turning his back to give her space to breathe.

With the interpersonal bullshit handled, Kael had a war to manage.

He scanned the ruined intersection, his tactical mind instantly dissecting the environment like a combat grid.

His eyes locked onto a massive, crumbling concrete staircase leading down into the earth, just fifty yards away.

It was an old, pre-Merge subway station entrance, heavily choked with concrete debris, rusted metal grates, and ten years of urban rot.

A natural bunker.

Meters of reinforced concrete to absorb thermal scans, tight choke points, and zero line of sight for orbital satellites.

It was perfect.

"Rest time is over," Kael stated, walking toward the dark staircase.

"Sera, on your feet. We need a perimeter."

Author's Note :

Hi, everyone!

I hope you're all doing well, staying happy, and taking care of yourselves.

After finishing yesterday's chapter, I started outlining the upcoming ones and ended up getting a few new ideas that fit the long-term story much better. Because of that, I've slightly adjusted the direction of the next 2–3 chapters. These chapters will focus more on laying the groundwork, connecting future plotlines, and adding details that will become important later.

Don't worry, though... the action isn't going anywhere. The fights, the sniping, and Kael doing what Kael does best will be back very soon.

Also... I have a major scene planned for later in the story. It's something that the audience watching Kael's stream would consider absolutely impossible based on everything they've seen so far. It isn't just around the corner, but it isn't hundreds of chapters away either.

I'm curious... what do you think that moment could be?

Drop your theories in the comments! I'm looking forward to reading them (though I won't be confirming or denying anything 😉).

As always, thank you all for reading and supporting the novel. It truly means a lot to me!
