Kael didn't reach out to slap the mechanical lift button that would send them gliding safely up the rails.
Instead, his heavy combat boots shifted, the thick steel-reinforced soles digging deep and planting themselves with absolute finality into the cold, rusted grating of the cargo platform.
His breath hitched in the stagnant underground air as he brought the terrifying, star-forged sniper-greatbow up, locking his posture into a posture carved from solid stone.
He aimed the modified cosmic bow straight up the pitch-black shaft.
[User 'Weapons_Nut_44': Wait. Stop. Is he aiming UP?!]
[User 'Weapons_Nut_44': HE'S INVERTING AN ORBITAL STRIKE! Do you know how much kinetic thrust is required to push an orbital payload straight up a gravity well?! The recoil alone will turn him into paste!]
[User 'Star_Dust_69': HE IS GOING TO SHOOT A NUKE STRAIGHT UP A CLOSED TUBE WHILE STANDING UNDER IT?! BRO WE ARE ALL SHARING HIS FUNERAL EXPENSES RIGHT NOW ππ]
[User 'Zark': CHAT I AM ACTUALLY VOMITING! HE IS NOT JUST A MADMAN, HE IS A CERTIFIED, CLINICALLY INSANE SUICIDE BOMBER WITH A CAMERA!]
[User 'Void_Cynic_01': The atmospheric pressure inside that shaft is already spiking. If he pulls that string, the backblast will cook his internal organs before the arrow even clears the platform.]
[User 'Succubus_Envy_99': Look at his shoulder blades straining against that hard-light tension... if he dies right here blowing up the sky, I am framing this clip on my bedroom wall forever π₯΅π©Έ]
[User 'Point_Gamble_God': MY CREDITS! MY ENTIRE LIFE SAVINGS ARE ON THAT ELEVATOR PLATFORM! HEY KAEL DON'T YOU DARE TURN INTO RED MIST BEFORE YOU COLLECT MY DONATION πππ]
[User 'Gore_Whore_9': THE VEINS IN HIS NECK ARE LITERALLY BULGING OUT! MAKE IT MESSY! BLOW THE ENTIRE SUBWAY DISTRICT TO PIECES AND TAKE ME WITH YOU π€€π¦]
[User 'X_Void_Walker_X': The system bandwidth just flatlined. Half a million people are watching a man commit high-velocity physics suicide in real time.]
[User 'DragonBoredom': Magnificent. He chooses to tear the heavens down upon his own head rather than take a quiet exit. That is the raw, unadulterated pride of a true king.]
[User 'Mod_Viper_Admin': CHAT LOCK YOUR TERMINALS! IF THAT RECOIL HITS THE NETWORK GRID, EVERYONE IN THIS CHAT ROOM IS GETTING A PERMANENT BRAIN-FRY!]
Kael completely ignored the flashing warnings and the frantic wall of chat text screaming at the edge of his vision.
The lives of half a million spectators meant nothing right now; the only thing that mattered was the sheer, suffocating weight of the gravity well above them.
He reached back with his right hand, his heavily muscled arm locking onto the humming hard-light string of the rail-sniper greatbow.
He pulled.
The magnetic tension was astronomical, resisting with a force that felt less like drawing a weapon and more like trying to physically rip a mountain off its tectonic roots.
Every single muscle fiber in his body screamed in agony, protesting against the impossible load.
The bone in his recently reset shoulder cracked ominously beneath the skin, a dry, sharp snap that sent white-hot spikes of pain straight up his spine.
Thick, glowing blue veins bulged violently along his neck and forearms, tracing maps of raw, straining fury against his skin.
"System,"
"Give me the arrow,"
Kael growled through clenched, bloodied teeth, his voice a low, gravelly vibration that cut through the humming air.
The System instantly answered his demand.
The raw, unfiltered cosmic energy of half a million alien viewers funneled violently down through the dimensional bridge, surging directly into his frame.
A massive, six-foot-long bolt of blinding, intensely condensed blue plasma materialized cleanly onto the humming hard-light bowstring.
The ambient heat radiating from the projectile was so terrifyingly high that it instantly evaporated every puddle of water resting on the steel elevator platform into a hissing cloud of steam.
A mile above him, at the absolute rim of the vertical shaft, the Vanguard enforcers stared down into the black abyss.
They caught the eerie, pulsing blue light blooming like a dying star at the bottom of the pit.
"Sir! Massive energy spike detected at the bottom of the shaft!" a Vanguard captain yelled into his comms, his frantic voice echoing down the reinforced concrete walls.

"It's off the charts! It's reading like a tactical nuke!"
"FIRE!" the commander screamed, veins popping on his neck.
"FIRE EVERYTHING DOWN THE SHAFT!"
A hundred heavy stationary plasma cannons ignited in unison.
A torrential, blinding rain of red, super-heated plasma bolts cascaded down the mile-long vertical drop, lighting up the darkness like a localized meteor shower hurtling toward earth.
They were going to vaporize Kael before his fingers could even slip off the hard-light string.
Kaelen Cross didn't flinch.
He stared straight up into the raining death, his cold silver eyes completely illuminated by the brilliant blue glow of the plasma arrow.
"Sera," Kael commanded softly, cutting through the rising roar.
Seraphina didn't hesitate for a fraction of a second.
She stepped directly in front of him, slamming her heavy greatsword into the steel grating and throwing her arms wide.
"AEGIS OF THE FALLEN!"
A massive, blazing dome of corrupted golden light erupted violently from her body, completely enveloping Kael and Vespera in a protective barrier.
The torrential rain of red plasma slammed heavily into her shield.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
The impacts were deafening.
The shield violently shuddered, spiderweb cracks forming in the hard-light as a hundred heavy cannons concentrated their fire on a single point.
Seraphina screamed in exertion, blood pouring from her nose, but she held the line.
She was the Vanguard's greatest shield. And she was finally protecting someone worth saving.
Kael pulled the hard-light string back until it touched his cheek, a cold, feral grin stretching across his face as he whispered into the roaring chaos,
"It's time for the fucking bloody show, baby."
Target: The Surface.
He released the string.
THOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!
The sound wasn't a crack. It was the sound of the universe physically tearing in half.
The recoil didn't push Kael down; the sheer atmospheric displacement created a localized anti-gravity field.
The steel grating beneath his boots instantly melted into slag.
The six-foot plasma arrow shot straight up the shaft.
It didn't just fly. It became a solid, blinding pillar of catastrophic blue light, fifty feet wide.
[User 'Zark': HOLY FUCKING SHIT! HE JUST INVERTED A GOD-TIER ORBITAL STRIKE STRAIGHT UP A SHITTY ELEVATOR SHAFT! MY RETINAS ARE COOKED, MY PC IS SMOKING, AND I JUST WET MY PANTS ON LIVE STREAM! LFG!!!!!!!! ππ₯π]
[User 'Weapons_Nut_44': THE KINETIC DISPLACEMENT ALONE JUST IGNORED THE ENTIRE LAWS OF THERMODYNAMICS! HE IS CHANNELING HALF A MILLION SOULS DIRECTLY INTO A RAIL-SNIPER GREATBOW! THE MATH IS BREAKING MY BRAIN! ππ€―π₯]
[User 'Star_Dust_69': BRO THE SKY IS LITERALLY SPLITTING OPEN! MY ENTIRE APARTMENT BUILDING IS SHAKING LIKE AN EARTHQUAKE! WE ARE WITNESSING HISTORY RIGHT NOW! πππ]
[User 'Succubus_Envy_99': The raw power radiating off that rail-sniper greatbow... I am soaked to the bone just watching him flex his back muscles. Take me, Kael! π₯΅π€π©Έ]
[User 'Point_Gamble_God': 100K CREDITS ON THE DESTRUCTION OF THE VANGUARD SPIRE! PAY OUT THE WINNINGS, ADMIN! THAT BLUE PILLAR JUST OBLITERATED EVERYTHING! π°ππ₯³]
[User 'DOPAMINE_ADDICT': THIS IS NOT A SNIPER SHOT, THAT IS A GENOCIDE BUTTON! π±β‘οΈπ₯]
[User 'X_Void_Walker_X': Marcus Thorne's security team right now: Why do I hear boss music and impending doom coming from the floor drain? ππππ¨]
[User 'DragonBoredom': BURN IT ALL DOWN! Let the ancient towers of the false elite crumble into ash under the glorious weight of a true star! Bow before the sovereign of the abyss. π]
The colossal pillar of searing blue light collided dead-on with the descending torrential rain of crimson plasma.
There was no physical impact, no messy collision, no sparks.
It didn't deflect them; it instantly, mercilessly, and completely atomized them into nothingness.
The plasma arrow carved its path upward, ripping through a mile of vertical space in a single, heart-stopping, reality-warping second.
It struck the heavily reinforced, fifty-foot-thick solid titanium blast doors guarding the top of the shaft with absolute, unadulterated fury.
The doors didn't even get the luxury of exploding. They simply ceased to exist, entirely vaporized on a sub-atomic molecular level as if they had never even been coded into existence.
And then, with a terrifying, universe-splitting roar, the blue pillar breached the surface.
***
Outside, in the Vanguard Guild's pristine central courtyard, a hundred elite enforcers stood shoulder-to-shoulder, firmly holding the line.
They thought they were just shooting fish in a barrel.
They were so damn wrong.
The solid ground beneath their heavy combat boots violently bulged upward like a waking beast.
A blinding, sapphire-blue pillar of apocalyptic energy erupted straight out of the elevator shaft.
It shot a thousand feet into the night sky, parting the heavy smog over Neo-Edo like a hot knife slicing through butter.
The shockwave was utterly cataclysmic.
The heavy stationary turrets, the overlapping energy shields, and the hundred elite guards standing near the rim were completely, instantaneously annihilated into dust.
The concussive blast rippled outward, shattering every single glass window across the lower fifty floors of the towering Aegis Spire.
Half of the pristine, manicured marble courtyard was reduced to a smoking, glowing crater of molten slag.
Alarms blared across the entire city in a chaotic frenzy, while searchlights frantically whipped through the smoke-filled sky trying to find the source.
The deafening rumble slowly faded, replaced only by the crackling sound of burning metal and falling ash.
Down in the center of the crater, the smoke hung so thick it completely obscured the dark hole leading down to the Abyss.
Then, the heavy, rhythmic 'thud' of combat boots echoed ominously from the dust.
Kaelen Cross stepped out of the smoke, his boots sinking into the soft, pulverized marble of the surface world.
He slung his crossbow, now rapidly cooling and reverting back into the rusted 'Vengeance', over his shoulder with casual defiance.
To his right, Seraphina stepped out, her heavy greatsword resting on her shoulder, breathing heavily but looking completely, utterly feral.
To his left, Vespera floated out of the shadows, her dark wings unfurled, breathing in the polluted surface air with a deeply satisfied sigh.
Hovering just a few feet away, a panicked, automated Vanguard security drone swung its camera lens to focus squarely on the three figures standing in the center of the devastation.
The live video feed was immediately broadcast across the entire Vanguard internal network, and heavily intercepted by Nyx to beam straight to the civilian web.
Kael looked directly into the drone's glowing red camera lens.
He took a deep, deliberate breath of the surface air, tasting the atmosphere.
It smelled like smog, fear, and burning metal.
It smelled beautiful.
His scarred face twisted into a cold, terrifying smirk that would haunt Marcus Thorne's nightmares until the very day he died.
"Honey," Kael rasped, his voice picking up perfectly on the drone's high-gain audio receptors for the whole world to hear.
"I'm home."
