Whatever.

He would go over and look at it first.

Force gathered in his thighs and he launched himself.

His body crossed the mire like a shot out of a cannon and landed square and steady on the hexagonal altar.

Soren huffed.

He laid his palm flat against the furnace, the record populated immediately.

[Devouring Demonic Furnace: an Immemorial awakening apparatus used by the Ancient Evil God Tribe.]

[Fed with high-tier demonic artifacts and supreme treasures of the Demon race, it renders them into pure liquid energy used to irrigate the Ancient Evil Gods sleeping beneath it.]

[Once the sleepers have absorbed enough of that energy, they wake.]

[The Heavenly Demon Alliance’s irrigation progress stands at 97%.]

[The Ancient Evil God entombed below is on the verge of full awakening.]

Ninety-seven percent already?

That was terrifying speed.

For half a breath Soren almost felt sorry for the two old monsters.

If he hadn’t wandered into their equation, a blueprint they had spent centuries drawing would have paid out by now.

Not that the whole thing could be blamed on their stupidity, who in the world could have called it? A Lower-Tier Demon Emperor climbing all the way to Middle-Tier Demon Ancestor in a handful of months.

Soren decided to destroy the furnace here and now.

The Strategy Encyclopedia answered his intent.

[The Devouring Demonic Furnace is structurally durable in the extreme.]

[Physical force will not destroy it.]

[Even with Master’s demonic energy unsuppressed, scratching the surface would be difficult.]

[However, offerings fed into the furnace must be of supreme purity and must belong to the Demon race.]

[Low-grade impure demonic items, or objects unrelated to the Demon race entirely, will disrupt the interior and corrupt the awakening process.]

Objects unrelated to the Demon race. He had plenty of those.

But with the miasma sitting on his energy, he couldn’t crack his own storage open.

He turned it over for a moment.

The fix turned out to be embarrassingly simple.

Walk back out of the swamp, open his storage where his energy still answered him, take whatever non-demonic junk he wanted and carry it back in by hand.

Soren jumped off the altar.

He left that reeking pit at speed, he had barely stepped back into the adjoining hall and started reaching for his storage, then an explosion went off overhead, thunderous enough to shake the earth.

The whole stronghold shuddered around him.

The place was wrapped in concealment formations that trapped every internal fluctuation inside, those formations did nothing to stop shockwaves from the outside world coming down.

That was deliberate, the Heaven Demon Ancestor and the Earth Demon Ancestor had built it that way. Invisible from above, but never deaf to what happened up there.

Soren caught the pressure riding down through the tremors, and it stopped him where he stood.

"An Upper-Tier Spirit Ancestor?"

It made no sense.

"That Spirit aura reads close to Orathis’s, but next to Orathis, this is another thing entirely, deeper, heavier."

He turned it over for a second, then it clicked.

"Is this the one Orathis kept talking about?"

"His elder sister?"

He was near certain of it.

Except, why here?

How had she found this stretch of nothing?

He carried the Strategy Encyclopedia, an outright cheat code, and even he had been forced to run a scheme and plant a tracking imprint to find the Alliance’s headquarters.

Upper-Tier Spirit Ancestor or not, no amount of ambient sensing was going to tell her a secret sanctuary lay buried under this particular patch of wilderness.

While he was still chewing on that, two more detonations went off together.

The ground above tore open.

Fissures ran down through rock and reached the ceiling of the stronghold.

Soren’s confusion doubled.

"Two more? Both Upper-Tier Ancestors as well?"

"No, that’s not right."

"All three are Upper-Tier, but these two are on another level from Orathis’s sister, absurdly so."

"Frankly, if I went at them head-on, I couldn’t promise myself a win."

"And they’re trying to kill each other up there."

"So they didn’t come for the Alliance, or for this place."

"Is this a coincidence?"

He focused his perception and studied the fluctuations overhead.

Judging by the detonations and the way the earth kept jumping, the fight was savage.

All three stood at Upper-Tier Ancestor, but Orathis’s sister was outclassed by either of the other two alone, caught between the pair, her retreat and defeat were only a matter of arithmetic.

"Those two feel familiar."

It surfaced all at once.

"I’m not wrong, their foundational frequency is close to Arcturus and the Sky Sparrow Beast Tribe."

"Don’t tell me powerhouses of the Immemorial Kunpeng Beast Tribe have crossed the ocean from the Beast Continent to ask questions here."

Set that deduction aside and he couldn’t imagine any other origin for two Upper-Tier Beast Ancestors of that caliber.

And if they were Kunpeng Beast Tribe, there was no doubt whatsoever about what had brought them across the ocean.

The Kun-Heaven Nether Sea.

One wave hadn’t finished breaking and the next was already up.

Still, looking at it plainly, why were they trying to beat Orathis’s sister to death?

Unless their ancestral instruments had picked up spatial anomalies proving the Kun-Heaven Nether Sea had been opened somewhere on Exalted Continent, without giving them coordinates or a name.

Orathis’s sister, Mansion Master of the Spirit-Hunting Mansion, was the only publicly known Upper-Tier Spirit Ancestor on the continent, to anyone who didn’t know what lay beneath the surface, she was the strongest thing walking.

If Soren had arrived from the Kunpeng Beast Tribe with no leads and no suspects, he would have started with her too.

Which meant they had the wrong person.

Soren let out a quiet breath of relief.

If those two had traced the Nether Sea straight to his door on the first try, that would have been a headache.

He would deal with the furnace first, then decide what came next.

Then, as he moved to step back through the portal, a blood-contract imprint in his core began to pulse, harder by the second.

He looked inward to check it.

It was the master-servant contract binding Orathis.

Soren’s brows came down.

A resonance that violent meant one thing, Orathis was closing on these coordinates, fast.

Soren wasn’t especially surprised, Orathis had said some time ago that he could faintly feel his sister’s aura.

Something must have finally given him a fix on her.
