One of the sword-wielders, who had just retreated to avoid one of Arthur’s swings, suddenly had a severed upper body crash into him from behind, causing him to turn around, his eyes widening at the sight of the sabre coated in golden blood.
|You bastard!| he shouted, his alarm causing the few remaining gods to finally notice the betrayal.
Confusion spread immediately as some tried to comprehend the sudden internal slaughter, while others instantly turned and attempted to flee the area entirely.
However, they didn’t get far before Arthur activated his Temporal Authority, freezing them in time, before swinging Celestia upward.
’Destruction Crescent: Sixfold.’
Temporal energy flowed into the blade as he swung it, splitting the single slash into six instances of itself, the cuts carving through the bodies of the remaining gods simultaneously.
He deactivated his Authority, and their shredded corpses fell to the ground, the skies turning silent after one final scream of agony before death.
|Divine Spark Extraction.|
By Arthur’s command, his Progenitor Authority activated, and from the chest of each fallen god, their divine sparks tore out from their hearts and flew into the air toward his open palm.
A total of 24 Divine Sparks of Superior Mid-Tier Deities, all dripping with golden blood, gathered above Arthur’s palm, and as he inhaled deeply, the sparks began cracking, then shattering and crumbling to dust one after another as the energy within them was extracted.
Arthur dusted his palm on his trousers after he was done, then lifted his gaze toward the last of the gods, his expression unchanged as he studied the man for a moment.
"You give off the same aura Alkosh did. Are you his subordinate?"
The man hung his sword at his waist and then bowed before answering Arthur’s question.
"I am Jitriah, a Greater Daedra who serves the Chief Divine."
"Greater Daedra?" Arthur echoed, raising an eyebrow.
He didn’t understand what that title meant, but thankfully, Lostvayne was there to enlighten him.
[It’s one of the titles used by the Entities of Oblivion’s Pantheon, similar to the Nobles of Hell’s Devildom. He’s the equivalent of a very high-ranking Count, one with the combat power of a Marquis.]
Hearing this, Arthur blinked in faint surprise and said, "Oh wow. Alkosh sent someone pretty high up."
He closed the distance between them and looked the black-eyed god in the eye as he asked, "Aren’t you scared? You do realise you’re dead if any Archdevil finds you, right?"
Jitriah calmly met Arthur’s gaze and responded.
"It is of no issue. I am certain I can remain undetected long enough to complete my task and leave."
There was clear confidence in his tone, and hearing it, Arthur burst into laughter.
The man’s calm expression changed into one of confusion as he didn’t understand why Arthur suddenly started laughing, and seeing that confusion, Arthur shook his head before saying, "You’re confident, huh? Look up."
"??"
Jitriah hesitated, not understanding the reason for the instruction, but Arthur didn’t bother explaining and simply repeated himself.
"Look up."
Finally, Jitriah raised his gaze, staring up at the atmosphere above them in confusion. A second later, his eyes widened in shock, as far beyond the planet’s atmosphere, and atop the moon now coming into view as night fell, there was a gigantic dog with pitch black fur and spiked red collars around the necks of its two heads staring down at him and Arthur.
"It’s a Hell dog," Arthur said.
"Red-collared Hell Dogs only take orders from the Royal Family of the Devildom, and given the nature of our meeting, you can rest assured that I most certainly didn’t call one of them here."
Arthur didn’t need to say more for the implication to be clear.
The Hell Dog on the moon was sent by another member of the Devildom’s Royal Family, and the reason for its presence was obvious.
Despite his confidence in staying hidden, Jitriah had already been detected and was being watched.
Arthur, with a small smile, looked up toward the Hell Dog and waved.
"Hello, grandpa."
He then looked back down at the stunned Jitriah and extended his right hand. "So, where is it?"
Celestia drifted silently out of his palm before vanishing, snapping Jitriah out of his shock. The god quickly opened his subspace and retrieved an item wrapped in multiple layers of binding seals.
Arthur took it from him and tore through the seals without hesitation, revealing what was inside.
It resembled two stone slabs about A4 size placed together, and he placed his hand in the gap between them, lifting the top slab as though opening a book.
However, unlike the outer surface covered in runes and markings, the interior was completely blank.
"Of course, it’s blank," Arthur muttered, unsurprised. "This Record doesn’t belong to me, after all."
He closed the book and then turned back to Jitriah as he asked, "How the hell did Alkosh get his hands on this, the Akashic Record of the Olympus Universe?"
[[!!]]
Lostvayne and Celestia reacted with surprise at Arthur’s words, their disbelief spilling into the questions they asked next.
[Olympus’ Akashic Record?! Why did you ask for that?!]
[Master, what are you planning to do with it?]
’Nothing too much,’ Arthur replied. ’I just need it to make a deal with a certain goddess who’s looking for it. Athena’s never going to believe that the Akashic Record she’s been searching for isn’t even in Olympus.’
[You want to use it as leverage to make Athena act according to your will?] Lostvayne asked, earning a silent nod from Arthur.
’Yes. There’s no way that prideful goddess would want it known that she misplaced her Akashic Record, and that’s perfect for getting her in my debt.’
Arthur pursed his lips after responding to his Ego Weapons, keeping his gaze on the item in his hands in silence for a moment.
’Alkosh is more dangerous than I thought. To think he could steal this from right under Athena’s nose in Olympus.
I need to re-evaluate my defences against a potential betrayal.’
He stored the Akashic Record in his subspace and then spoke to Jitriah while releasing the barrier he had placed around the planet.
"Your job is done. Get out of here before that Hell Dog bites your neck off."
Jitriah silently bowed and immediately turned away, dashing into space at light speed.
Arthur watched him leave, then descended to Sele’s surface, landing beside his beach chair and taking a seat as he looked up at the now-empty moon surface.
’All that’s left is to wait.’
◇ ◇ ◇
Arthur’s wait didn’t take as long as he expected, as a little over 3 weeks later, he was summoned to the Royal Castle in Aeturn by his grandfather, Diablo.
When he arrived, he sensed a god’s presence inside the main throne hall, the one Diablo only used for audiences with guests from foreign universes.
He made his way there without delay, and when the double doors opened for him, he immediately saw the source of the divine presence he had sensed.
Down on one knee at the base of the dais where Diablo sat on his throne was a god radiating the same type of aura as some of the 24 he’d killed a little over three weeks earlier.
Also present, standing on either side of the dais, were his mother and uncle, and after waving at Creusery, Arthur looked down at the kneeling god before turning to his mother and asking, "Dad’s messenger?"
"That’s what he claims he is," Cattleya responded, her tone carrying clear skepticism.
Noticing it, Arthur walked up to the god, placed a hand on the man’s shoulder, and then asked, "So, exactly who are you?"
"I am Pheldir, Arbiter of Olympus’ Underworld in service of His Majesty."
"Arbiter of the Underworld, huh?" Arthur echoed, tapping the man’s shoulder lightly.
Diablo, seated on his throne with his chin resting on the back of his palm and his elbow on the armrest, then asked,
"Did Hades leave you a means to verify his identity?"
Arthur nodded without a word, then reached into his subspace, retrieving something and pulling it out.
The moment the black gem filled with swirling divinity appeared in Arthur’s palm, Pheldir snapped his gaze upward, eyes widening.
"That’s His Majesty’s—!"
Before he could finish, Arthur injected divinity into the crystal, activating it, and Pheldir immediately groaned as something within his body reacted.
A flash of light followed, and something burst from within his cloak, shooting straight toward the gem in Arthur’s palm like metal drawn to a magnet.
"My token!" Pheldir exclaimed.
Before he could demand it back, Diablo, Cattleya, and Creusery all turned their eyes toward him, and the pressure of their combined gazes made his words catch in his throat as sweat ran down his brow.
Arthur calmly picked up the token, a pentagonal piece of metal engraved with Olympian runes, radiating a divinity all of them recognised as Hades’. He held it up toward Diablo and flicked it over, sending it floating toward him.
"Apparently, that’s called an Underworld Token," Arthur explained. "Dad said he’s the only one who can issue them, and they’re soul-bound to whoever he gives them to. They grant unrestricted access in and out of the Underworld."
Diablo studied it in silence, then looked at the crystal in Arthur’s hand. "He gave you that to use and confirm?"
Arthur shook his head. "No, Dad gave me this some decades ago. It contains the charge of his Authority as King of the Underworld and his Authority of Darkness, but I never ended up needing it.
Either I didn’t have the time to use it, or the situation wasn’t dangerous enough to require it. So it’s just been sitting in my subspace all this time."
