Godslayer's Legend

Chapter 1038: Dodekapolis in Shadow

The Olympion Galaxy was the core galaxy of Central Olympus, the region that housed the Apex World Aetherion, where the Seat of the Pantheon, Dodekapolis, was.

Suddenly, a deep darkness engulfed the entire galactic region, the radiance of billions upon billions of stars dimming beneath the overwhelming darkness.

The skies of planets that relied on those stars for light went dark, a darkness deeper than night itself, as even the faint twinkle of distant stars could no longer be seen.

Aetherion was no exception.

From that darkness emerged a tall man who calmly walked through the gates of Dodekapolis, a long cloak of darkness flowing from the shoulder plates of his simple Stygian iron armour.

Two blades radiating cosmic energy, carrying the faint glossy sheen of Stygian iron that had been bathed in all the rivers of the Underworld, were held in his hands, their tips dragging across the floor as he moved.

His obsidian eyes scanned the entirety of the ’City of the Twelve’, nodding in silence as he noted the presence of hundreds of gods within it.

Cosmic energy rapidly concentrated around the planet, and the man proceeded to do something that shocked all Twelve Olympians, regardless of their positions across the universe.

The powerful cosmic energy that Hades had gathered descended upon the planet’s surface, forcefully breaking the hold of its absent Master and imposing his rule upon it.

Illusory images of the six rivers of the Underworld formed rings around the Apex Planet, and as the gods within the city rushed out upon sensing his actions, Hades spoke.

"Good, you’re all here. That’ll make things easier."

The moment he said that, darkness law energy erupted from his divine spark, flowing down his arms and into the swords in his hands.

At this, one of the goddesses who rushed out of the city first stared at him, eyes wide in shock, as she muttered, "Uncle?"

The sound of her voice hadn’t even fully travelled forward when Hades suddenly vanished, and in the next instant, the goddess instinctively summoned her spear, golden battle armour shining with the same sheen as her blonde hair manifesting over her gown as she turned and raised her spear just in time to block the sword that had been slicing straight towards her neck.

An immense shockwave erupted from the impact, golden and black divinities clashing with sparks, and the goddess of War, eyes wide in shock, pushed back against that sword with all her might as she demanded, "Uncle, what is the meaning of this?!"

However, unlike her, who still sought to find reason in this situation, her fellow god who governed the Aspect of War in this universe kicked reasoning aside completely.

A giant broadsword descended upon Hades from behind, powerful, crimson divinity crackling down its length.

Hades calmly raised his left hand and swung his other blade upwards, easily blocking the broadsword, not a single hint of strain on his face despite dealing with the attacks of two powerful gods simultaneously.

He wrapped cosmic energy around his body and then forcefully dispersed it, the burst knocking the two gods of war, Athena and Ares, away.

Athena stabbed her spear into the ground, using it to halt her motion, while Ares flipped through the air and landed on his feet, his Authorities activating as powerful divinity erupted from his body.

"Uncle, what are you—"

"Damn it, Athena!" Ares shouted, cutting his sister off. "Forget the questions! He’s an enemy! Attack first!"

With those words, Ares vanished, the ground where he had been standing cratering as he instantly closed the distance to Hades and swung his broadsword down with every intent to cleave the man in two.

Of the Twelve Olympians, Athena and Ares were the strongest battle gods, following Zeus and Poseidon, and when it came to raw latent power, Ares was superior.

So if Hades wanted to achieve his multiple goals, making sure Olympus lost the upcoming war, and also gaining his vengeance, then both of them were the first that needed to go.

Swinging his blade in Ares’ direction, Hades muttered,

|Cosmic Darkness Authority.|

Within his soul, the Origin Core mutated after his attainment of Sub-Cosmic Superiority, responded to his call, unleashing its law energy, which intertwined with the ambient cosmic energy, and erupted from his blade in a powerful slash that collided with Ares’ descending sword and sent both Ares and the weapon across Dodekapolis, hurling him through dozens of buildings, crashing into hundreds of other gods who just so happened to be in his path.

Hades immediately dropped into his shadow, vanishing from sight as Athena’s spear pierced through the space he had occupied a moment earlier. He re-emerged directly from Athena’s shadow without delay, catching her other arm before she could adjust her stance, and immediately, tendrils of darkness slid out from his fingers on her arm, moving up her arm and around her body in a second, locking her in place.

"!"

Without hesitation, Hades lifted the goddess into the air and slammed her down onto the ground with overwhelming force, an impact that sent cracks spreading across the entire continent.

The moment the ground fractured beneath her, he lifted her up once more and flung her body through the air, sending her flying straight towards the Seat of the Pantheon.

Athena flipped mid-air and landed on her feet, immediately slamming the butt of her spear into the ground, golden divinity erupting upwards in thousands of spear constructs, filling the entirety of the area with divine light spears that pierced in every direction.

Hades, however, casually created a spherical barrier of cosmic energy around himself, causing every spear that collided with it to shatter on contact without penetrating.

The instant her attack failed, he vanished once more into the darkness.

Athena instantly turned, but this time, Hades didn’t appear behind her like she expected, but in front of her instead, his blade already moving towards her neck with killing intent.

Even so, the goddess was able to react in time, summoning her shield to block the strike, the impact ringing out across the land.

Hades followed up immediately with his second blade, his faster-than-light strikes distorting space as he forced Athena into a defensive position with her spear and shield.

She tried to get counterattacks in, but Hades evaded with superior speed, and the cosmic energy within his blades enhanced his strikes to a level that allowed him to overwhelm her with sheer force.

’Pierce Guard.’

The cosmic energy at the tip of Hades’ left blade rapidly condensed at the tip, and he thrust the sword towards Athena. Just as he expected, the goddess raised her shield to block, but Hades’ sword easily pierced through the shield, and he turned his grip, shattering it into fragments as the blade continued forward and pierced the arm holding the shield.

Its tip tore through her flesh and bone, bursting out the other end of her arm, golden blood spilling into the air. She tried countering with her spear, but she suddenly lost her balance as her legs dropped into the darkness of her own shadow, restricting her movement completely as Hades brought his sword down from above.

Athena blocked the descending strike with her spear, and golden flames erupted from her body, spreading outward with destructive force.

|Cosmic Darkness Authority: Black Hole.|

A sphere of darkness the size of his head formed beside his head, spinning and distorting space as it absorbed her flames and divinity into its dark depths before they could spread further.

Hades then dragged the blade still embedded in her arm, tearing through bone as he pulled, its tip slashing across her side and cutting through her armour as though it did not exist.

Her feet were still trapped in the shadows, restricting her evasion capabilities, so when Hades thrust his sword towards her chest, she had no choice but to summon a short sword to parry the blade.

But the moment she succeeded in diverting the blade, dozens of blades of darkness erupted from the surrounding empty space and pierced into her body from all directions.

Hades raised the blade he had dragged from her arm and swung it down towards her shoulder, intending to split her body diagonally, but he halted mid-motion and redirected it sideways, blocking Ares’ descending slash with it.

A gust of wind swept through the hall immediately after, and Athena’s immobilised body vanished completely from the shadow binding, leaving behind only her severed ankles where she’d been restrained.
