Hades, the son of the Olympian Titan King of Time, who was once the universe’s master, was the current King of the Underworld.
Of the ’Big Three’ gods of Olympus, Hades was arguably the busiest one.
Governing the Underworld Dimension, which housed the Reincarnation Path of the universe, where all souls were recycled, was an arduous task, and this was only one of Hades’ duties.
His responsibilities also involved managing Tartarus, the Protogenoi turned Prison, where the powerful titans of the previous dynasty of Olympus, servants of his father Kronos, were sealed.
Kronos, in particular, was someone whose seal required more maintenance than the Twelve Olympians would like to admit.
Unbeknownst to them, Kronos was a Sub-Cosmic Being, one who possessed a near-immortal body and a soul far more resilient than they believed.
Imprisoning Kronos in Tartarus had been a risky endeavour that bordered on the fine line between truly containing him and handing him the tools needed for a comeback.
After all, within the cosmic energy concentrated in Tartarus, a Sub-Cosmic being was like a fish in water.
It was only after Hades, due to prolonged exposure to the cosmic energy of the Protogenoi, attained Sub-Cosmic superiority himself, that he realised how dangerous what he and his brothers had done truly was.
He proceeded to secretly modify the seals on Kronos and his subordinate titans after that discovery, and now he was running routine checks to ensure everything was functioning properly, alongside one of his aides, the goddess of Magic and Witchcraft, Hecate.
The two of them were casually talking while ensuring the titans at the depths of the pit of darkness before them were still immobilised, when suddenly they felt something tug on their connection to the universe as Entities of its governing Pantheon.
Then a deep voice echoed in their ears.
|Let it be known that everything to come stems from the actions of the one you call your ’King’.|
"??"
Hades’ eyebrows raised in surprise, having instantly recognised the owner of that voice.
"Diablo?"
He couldn’t understand why Diablo was not in Hell, but in Olympus, or what Diablo was even referring to.
And he didn’t have a chance to process that when Diablo proceeded to drop a bombshell.
|As the Ruler of the Hell Universe’s Devildom, I, Diablo Vaughn, speak to the entirety of Olympus.
Consider this Hell’s declaration of war.|
"Eh?"
Hecate let out a confused sound, turning to Hades, as if questioning whether he understood what was happening, but Hades looked just as confused as she was.
"He said ’King’? Did Zeus do something to Hell?" Hecate muttered quietly, her three brains working overtime to figure out what could possibly cause Diablo to suddenly declare war on Olympus.
Hades frowned deeply, turning around and heading towards the exit of Tartarus.
’Something is terribly wrong. Diablo hates war of any kind. Why would he suddenly initiate one himself?’
For all the time they’d lived, Hades and Diablo had only truly been familiar for some five or six decades, but that was more than enough time for the two perceptive men to understand one another.
Perhaps because he’d used war to come into power in Hell, Diablo disliked war and would do everything he could to avoid that possibility.
He was known for stopping several wars between ally Demon- and Devil-ruled universes, and had even been the one to quell tensions between Hell and several god-ruled universes many times in the past.
’For such a man to go out of his way to declare war on Olympus...’
Hades froze at that thought, a chill running down his spine as a terrifying possibility came to mind.
’No way... right? He shouldn’t be here yet.’
His mind hadn’t even fully processed that possibility when he sensed a presence enter Tartarus, one of the few beings in Olympus who had free rein within the Underworld.
His Queen, Persephone.
She appeared in front of him a few seconds later, carrying her signature floral scent, however, Hades couldn’t help but notice something else beyond that scent.
He immediately closed the distance, and before she could say a word, Hades reached out towards one of the flowers in her hair and plucked something from it.
A strand of hair, silver in colour, emanating a cosmic energy signature Hades could never mistake.
’Why is Arthur’s hair on Persephone?’
Seeing the strand of hair Hades held up, Persephone’s eyes widened faintly.
’How did he notice that? It’s just a strand.’
But of course, there was no way she could understand that Hades hadn’t seen the hair but simply sensed the cosmic energy it emitted, an energy she could not perceive.
"You met... Arthur?"
At Hades’ question, Persephone snapped out of her thoughts and nodded silently.
That nod made Hades’ expression grow colder, the faint light around them slowly dimming as he asked.
"Persephone, what did Zeus do?"
Hecate, who had been about to speak, had her words die in her throat the moment she heard Hades’ cold voice, and seeing Persephone’s hesitation to answer, alarm bells began ringing in her mind.
’Not good!’
"Persephone," Hades called, his obsidian eyes glinting with faint divinity as he asked once more. "What. Did. Zeus. Do?"
Diablo’s sudden declaration of war, and Arthur’s presence in Olympus far earlier than he should have been.
Those two combined formed a dangerous conclusion in Hades’ mind, but he didn’t want to rush into assumptions.
He wanted confirmation.
After a tense silence, Persephone finally spoke.
"He... he went after the boy."
Her voice was quiet, her tone muted, but Hades heard every word clearly.
"I see," he said in a strangely calm voice.
"In that case, it’s no surprise that even Diablo would declare war. It makes perfect sense."
"??"
Hecate and Persephone were both surprised by his reaction. They had expected anger, but instead he was calm... far too calm.
He stepped to the side and walked past Persephone, cosmic energy gathering around him as he ordered.
"Hecate, check the last sector on our roster. Then seal Tartarus when you leave."
"?!! Wait, Hades!"
The goddess called out to him with alarm in her voice, and he stopped, turning back towards her with a raised eyebrow.
When she saw his eyes, Hecate flinched and instinctively stepped back, realisation dawning upon her.
’He’s not calm! He’s angry! VERY ANGRY!’
She was certain of it now.
Hades’ anger had come full circle, from violent rage into calm rage.
And that was the worst kind of rage.
Perfectly controlled rage.
Seeing her silent even after calling him, Hades lost patience and roused his divinity.
|Kynee,| he declared.
A helm of darkness manifested on his head, and before Hecate could say a word, Hades’ body turned into a form of liquified darkness that dropped into his shadow, which then vanished without a trace.
The man emerged outside the Underworld Cluster, floating in the space between planets of the nearest galaxy, filled with residual destruction law energy.
The signature of that energy was one he recognised, and he could also sense residues of familiar flames mixed within it.
He looked around without a word, analysing the scene and nodding to himself in silence.
"I see," he muttered. "If Diablo has declared war, then I’ll do everything in my power to make sure Olympus loses this war."
His declaration was the complete opposite of what he should have been aiming for as the King of the Underworld, but right now, Hades wasn’t the Underworld’s King.
Right now, he was an enraged father out for vengeance.
