People had begun to forget what peacetime felt like.

The war that had continued for decades saw the birth of new generations who knew nothing beyond the conflict between universes.

For them, the war was not an event that had begun in their lifetime, but the reality they had always existed within.

As far as they were concerned, war was the natural state of existence, and stories about the time before the war sounded almost impossible.

They heard of the times when universes existed without armies stationed across their borders, where resources were focused more on growing the powers of the Pantheons ruling these universes, and not on survival, and when Rulers spent their time building rather than preparing for the next battles.

However, those memories gradually began to fade beneath the weight of the years that passed.

The original reason behind the war became less important as the destruction continued.

The death of Arthur, Hades’ reaction, Diablo’s declaration, and Zeus’ actions that started everything became history to those who had been born after the conflict began.

What remained was the war itself.

After the first decades of conflict, the war entered a stage of attrition.

The large campaigns that defined the opening years became less frequent as both sides began exhausting the resources required to maintain them. Instead of decisive victories that changed the direction of the war, battles became long struggles where territory was gained and lost over periods of years.

Every victory required greater sacrifices, and every defeat created consequences that could take decades to recover from.

The major factions still possessed immense armies, but even universes with vast resources had limits.

After more than 80 years of continuous warfare, supplies that had once seemed impossible to exhaust began becoming increasingly difficult to replace.

The production of weapons, warships, artifacts, and other military resources could no longer keep up with the demands of constant conflict.

The same applied to soldiers.

Even with powerful civilisations capable of producing armies on a scale beyond the understanding of lesser races, losses accumulated over generations.

The war had consumed too much.

And as the conflict continued, outside powers began taking notice.

Universes from other regions of the multiverse began turning their attention toward the ongoing war between the Divine Alliance and the Infernal Coalition.

Some viewed the weakened state of both sides as an opportunity, while others saw the conflict as a chance to expand their own influence without directly entering the battlefield.

Through diplomacy, hidden agreements, economic pressure, and indirect support, foreign powers began attempting to manipulate the outcome of the war to benefit themselves.

Their involvement created additional pressure on both factions, causing the alliances that had survived decades of fighting to begin showing signs of strain.

Some Rulers questioned whether continuing the war was still worth the cost. Others became suspicious of their allies, wondering whether foreign powers had already influenced their decisions.

The unity that had existed during the early stages of the conflict began weakening under the weight of exhaustion and outside interference, showing that even the strongest alliances were not immune.

The longer the war continued, the smaller each victory became.

Territories that once represented major achievements were now exchanged for losses elsewhere.

Battles that lasted years ended with both sides too damaged to claim meaningful advantages.

The conflict continued, but the ability of either side to achieve a decisive victory continued to decrease.

By the 100-year mark, exhaustion had spread throughout every faction involved.

The armies were still fighting, the hatred between the factions still existed, and the reasons for continuing the war were still remembered by those who had lived through its beginning.

However, after a century of destruction, every universe involved had paid a price.

Even the Deity Realm Existences with their incredibly long lifespans began growing weary after a century of constant warfare.

For beings who could live for hundreds of thousands of years, a century might have seemed insignificant from the perspective of their existence.

However, a century of continuous battles was different.

A century spent watching armies disappear, territories change hands, and entire civilisations suffer under the weight of war was enough to exhaust even those who had experienced eras far longer than ordinary mortals could imagine.

Many commanders who had entered the war believing victory was inevitable began questioning whether victory was even possible anymore.

The goals that had motivated them at the beginning of the conflict became harder to justify after decades of losses.

Entire battlefields were abandoned because neither side had the resources or the willingness to continue fighting over them.

Armies that had once numbered in the quintillions were reduced after generations of conflict.

Commanders who once sought conquest began wanting the war to end.

However, wanting an end to the war and being able to end it were two completely different things.

No faction wanted to be the first to lower their weapons.

No Ruler wanted to appear weak in front of their allies or enemies.

After a century of fighting, pride had become one of the strongest forces keeping the war alive.

Even if leaders privately believed that continuing the conflict was becoming impossible, admitting that the war could no longer be won would create problems of its own.

Their allies would question their strength. Their enemies would see an opportunity.

And after sacrificing so much, neither side could accept the possibility that everything they had lost had been for nothing.

Strangely enough, despite the exhaustion spreading throughout both factions, this period became the most violent stage of the entire war.

It was no longer only about gaining territory or achieving strategic advantages.

Both sides began committing everything they still possessed in an attempt to force the other faction into surrender.

Every remaining resource was directed toward the battlefield.

Every remaining army was prepared for deployment.

Every remaining advantage was used.

However, the increasing brutality of the war was not caused only by the desperation of two exhausted factions.

It was also because of the actions of one of the most influential existences involved in the conflict.

The war involved more than a hundred universes, both Primary and Secondary, but the individuals who held the greatest influence over its tides numbered fewer than ten.

Hades, Zeus, Odin, Cattleya, Alkosh, Surtr, and last but certainly not least, the one who had stayed silent despite being the person who issued the first declaration, Diablo.

Despite taking the least action since the beginning of the war, Diablo’s influence over the entire conflict was undeniable, his shadow looming over the century-long struggle.

The forces of Hell, its Main Entities, and the famed Seven Deadly Sins of the Hell Universe, who surpassed all other Deadly Sin Authority wielders in power, had all killed more enemies than Diablo, who had not stepped outside Hell even once.

However, those forces of Hell only acted under Diablo’s command, following his direction and carrying out his orders.

And now, just as exhaustion had begun spreading across every side involved in the war, Diablo finally left Hell.

His appearance outside Hell immediately sent waves of alarm throughout the universes of the Divine Alliance, which had spies and watchers monitoring every movement entering and leaving Hell.

Diablo exited the Hell Universe and then simply stood atop the Universe’s Barrier in silence for several hours, glancing around as though he were observing the distant battlefields that had been abandoned.

Given how he had cleared the cosmic energy clouds across the section of the barrier where he stood, it was not surprising that he was noticed quickly.

After completing these actions that made it seem as though he was surveying the warfront, Diablo abruptly vanished.

All member universes of the Divine Alliance immediately placed their forces on high alert, while the Infernal Coalition quickly prepared to launch a strike.

Less than 24 hours later, seven god Kings and Queens, Masters of Primary Universes within the Divine Alliance, were killed, their bodies quite literally blown to pieces.

Ten Main Entities in total from those same seven universes were also violently killed in the same manner.

All of it was done by Diablo’s hand.

The first direct action he had taken since the start of the war was the killing of 13 Monarch Realm Existences and 4 Superior High-Tier Deities.

He then proceeded to send their body parts to the major universes of the Divine Alliance, along with a message that basically stated, "Don’t think about ending this war on your terms. The war is over when I say it’s over."

The Infernal Coalition’s forces immediately moved the moment they got wind of Diablo’s actions, targeting the seven universes Diablo attacked, as their weakened state presented an opportunity that couldn’t be ignored.

For the Divine Alliance, the attack on those seven universes was not viewed as random, but as the opening move of something much larger.

Diablo was plotting something big, and as for sending the bodies of the god Kings to them, that was simply a provocation designed to ensure that they would willingly step into his plan despite knowing that it was likely a trap.

If the Divine Alliance stayed still after such a thing, the morale of their armies would tank to new lows.

As such, they had no choice but to respond by moving their forces to defend those universes and prevent the Infernal Coalition from capitalising on the deaths of their leaders.

As both sides converged, the majority of the remaining forces from across the war were redirected toward a single front.

After a century of conflict, the battle for those seven universes became the largest concentration of military strength seen throughout the war, and the violence surpassed every previous peak the conflict had reached.
