Ice and Snow City.

Under the Ice Queen’s command, the people of Ice and Snow City worked day and night to build the altar for the Divine Worship Ceremony.

The Ice Queen used her Power, directly creating a massive ice altar a kilometer in diameter.

This allowed everyone to skip the most time-consuming part of the process: constructing the altar’s main body.

All that was left was to set up the Ritual Array and offerings required for the Divine Worship Ceremony on the ice altar.

Just as everything was proceeding in an orderly and smooth fashion, Monice suddenly came to the Ice Queen to report an urgent matter.

"Her Majesty the Queen, a Valkyrie Squad we sent out on patrol this afternoon has yet to return. I sent people to their patrol route to search for them, but they found no clues."

Hearing this, the Ice Queen’s gaze sharpened slightly. She gave a small nod and said, "Mm, I understand."

Within Ice and Snow City, she had Ice Elves to act as her eyes and ears, allowing her to know everything that happened inside the city walls.

Outside the city, however, there were no omnipresent Ice Elves, so she could only rely on the Valkyries and Ice and Snow Guardians for patrols and protection.

A moment later, she opened her eyes and said, "There are enemies outside the city."

Monice’s eyes narrowed. She wasn’t surprised.

If there were no enemies, the Valkyrie Squad wouldn’t have just vanished for no reason.

It was impossible for the Valkyrie Squad to have betrayed the Ice Queen and fled.

A grave look appeared in the Ice Queen’s eyes. "Beastmen."

"Beastmen?" This time, Monice was a little surprised.

The Beastmen lived in the barren wilderness on the other side of the snowy mountains. To them, the Extreme North Icefield was an even more impoverished land.

No Beastmen had attacked Ice and Snow City for hundreds of years.

What angered the Ice Queen even more was that, at some point, rumors began to spread through the city that Ice and Snow City was doomed.

"I heard the legendary Ice Emperor has awakened! He’s about to destroy Fred! We have to escape!"

"No way! Isn’t the Ice Emperor just a legend? Can he really exist?"

"Her Majesty the Queen suddenly wants to worship a Divine Spirit. Could it be to gain the Divine Spirit’s protection?"

"Run! Get out of Fred! The Ice Emperor will destroy everything here!"

Rumors flew, and panic gripped the city’s populace.

Left with no choice, the Ice Queen personally appeared to placate the people.

"Fred City will not be destroyed. These are all rumors, deliberately spread by malicious individuals to disrupt the peace."

At the same time, the Valkyries and Ice and Snow Guardians moved swiftly both inside and outside the city.

They arrested those spreading the rumors and found they were all Beastmen and Half-Beastmen living in Ice and Snow City.

Under intense interrogation, some admitted they had been paid to spread the rumors.

Monice was so furious she wanted to cut them down on the spot.

The Ice Queen had worked to establish Ice and Snow City as a peaceful, neutral city, which was why she allowed people of any race to live there and enjoy equal treatment.

And yet, these Beastmen had helped outsiders destroy the peace of Ice and Snow City.

But from a racial perspective, the Beastmen outside the city were their own kind.

Meanwhile, the Valkyrie Squads searching for traces of the Beastmen outside the city were making no progress.

They were even ambushed by elusive Beastman units, suffering considerable casualties.

The Ice Queen’s authority was limited to the area around Ice and Snow City; she couldn’t exert much influence on the outside world.

She had no way of finding the Beastman forces in the vast Snowfield.

She had only been able to discover that the missing Valkyrie Squad was attacked by Beastmen through a stroke of luck—an Ice Elf had happened to be passing by when the attack occurred.

As the situation escalated, word reached Gu Sewei, who was busy making meticulous preparations for the Divine Worship Ceremony.

She volunteered to go outside, find the Beastman forces, and resolve this trouble plaguing the Ice Queen.

The Ice Queen refused her offer, telling her that the Divine Worship Ceremony was the most important thing right now.

To ensure the Divine Worship Ceremony could proceed smoothly, the Ice Queen had no choice but to pay a higher price to keep those responsible for the preparations working with peace of mind.

She offered the workers greater compensation.

BUZZ BUZZ BUZZ. The Communication Crystal vibrated. Li Wei stuck the skewer of roasted meat into the ground and pulled the Communication Crystal from his pocket.

Saint Xi’s eyes darted around, landing on the roasted meat Li Wei had placed beside him.

At first, the mission to monitor the Ice Emperor had seemed dangerous and difficult.

But after half a day, Li Wei found the task was actually quite easy.

He just had to watch from a distance. There was no need to get close, and he wouldn’t encounter any danger.

Now, Li Wei and Saint Xi were waiting on the Ice Emperor’s path of advance, ready to move again once he passed.

That had to be the Beastmen’s goal.

The Ice Queen hoped Li Wei could help her find the Beastman forces hiding outside the city.

After reading, Li Wei gave a wry smile. ’What kind of tracking Magic do I know?’

He was just about to reply to the Ice Queen when a thought suddenly struck him. He pondered for a moment, then agreed to give it a try.

’On second thought, it’s not like I’m completely out of options,’ he mused.

As it happened, Li Wei had something in his possession that could be useful.

If all went well, he could easily resolve the crisis facing Ice and Snow City.
