Li Wei took a step back, moving out of the Snow Bear’s shadow.
The crowd behind him was frozen in place.
They couldn’t comprehend what had just happened.
They didn’t even know the Snow Bear was dead.
Seeing the Snow Bear motionless, someone mustered their courage, gripped a long spear, and thrust it at the beast with all their might.
PFFT!
The spearhead instantly pierced the incredibly tough bearskin.
The lack of resistance almost made the Warrior wielding the spear fall to the ground.
Immediately after, there was a sound like collapsing sand.
The Snow Bear’s massive body rapidly disintegrated, scattering into a pile of blood-red ice shards.
Everyone’s pupils constricted. Only then did they realize the Snow Bear was dead.
But they still had no idea how it had been killed.
Li Wei glanced at the shattered remains of the Snow Bear and gently massaged his temples.
He felt that the drain on his Spiritual Power had been quite significant.
By using the High Level Flame Rules, he could draw out the thermal energy from a certain area.
However, according to the world’s Rules, as he drew out the thermal energy, it was bound to flow back in.
In other words, the speed at which he drew out the energy had to be faster than the speed at which it flowed back.
This was equivalent to him fighting against the Rules of the world.
Fighting against the entire world was naturally impossible.
But within a localized area, he had enough Power to do so.
The Power consumed by fighting the world’s Rules was far more terrifying than he had imagined.
Moreover, he ultimately couldn’t achieve true Absolute Zero.
The closer he got to Absolute Zero, the more terrifying the consumption of Power became.
Li Wei felt that using "Thermal Extraction, Absolute Zero" once was more exhausting than casting the Meteor Fireball Technique.
THUMP THUMP THUMP.
Xiong Er recovered and walked forward.
He glanced at the dead Snow Bear and said to Li Wei with sincerity, "Thank you."
"If it weren’t for you, the Snow Bear Tribe might have been..."
Xiong Er didn’t dare to think any further.
He looked at the dead Snow Bear in confusion and asked, "Why did its Power suddenly increase so much?"
"This Snow Bear’s appearance was strange, too. I’ve never seen a Snow Bear that looked like this."
A normal Snow Bear Magic Beast is only about Tier Three in strength.
Even the King of Snow Bears is Tier Four Peak at most.
But this strange Snow Bear that attacked the Snow Bear Tribe had strength exceeding Tier Five.
It was far beyond the Level of an ordinary Snow Bear Magic Beast.
Xiong Wei also walked over. His arm seemed to be injured, his left arm hanging limply at his side.
He grimly observed the Demonized Snow Bear’s corpse.
"If this is the only mutated Snow Bear, then we might be okay. But if the other Snow Bears have undergone the same changes, we’re in trouble..."
Xiong Wei’s worries were not unfounded.
A single Demonized Snow Bear had nearly wiped out the Snow Bear Tribe.
If the number of Demonized Snow Bears increased, the destruction of the Snow Bear Tribe would only be a matter of time.
SHFF, SHFF, SHFF.
The Witch, draped in tattered yellow animal hides, emerged. His face was completely hidden beneath a thick hood.
The Witch glanced at the Snow Bear’s corpse on the ground, then looked at Li Wei and asked, "Is this a Demonized Magical Beast?"
Li Wei hesitated for a moment before saying uncertainly, "I’m not sure. I’ve never seen a Demonized Magical Beast either."
The Witch crouched down, picked up a piece of red ice, and rubbed it between his index finger and thumb.
Then, to the astonishment of the others, he put the ice shard in his mouth and tasted it.
The Witch stood up, turned to everyone, and said, "Everyone, pack up your belongings. We’re heading to Fred City."
Xiong Wei and Xiong Er were stunned and greatly surprised to hear this.
However, they didn’t question the Witch’s command.
The people of the Snow Bear Tribe were filled with reluctance upon hearing they had to leave their home for the distant Ice and Snow City.
But still, no one questioned the Witch’s decision.
Xiong Wei asked in a low voice, "Witch, is it really that serious?"
The Witch extended his claw-like hands, grabbed Xiong Wei’s dislocated left arm, and gave it a hard push.
Xiong Wei grunted, and his arm returned to normal.
The Witch said, "It is very dangerous."
"The Power inside this Snow Bear does not belong to the Snowfield. If the Magic Beasts and animals on the Snowfield are all infected by this Power, it will become incredibly dangerous."
"The Snow Bear Tribe will not be able to survive on the Snowfield on its own. We must move to Fred City."
After speaking, he turned to Li Wei.
The Witch bowed his head slightly and said, "Next, I must ask for your help, Lord Mage, in escorting the people of our tribe."
Li Wei nodded and said, "Yes, that’s fine. I was preparing to head back anyway, so it’s on my way."
’That said,’ he thought, ’traveling alone would definitely be faster and safer than moving with an entire tribe.’
The Witch reached into his thick animal-hide coat, fumbled for a moment, and took out a simple, damaged hide Scroll, handing it to Li Wei.
"I came across this by chance. What’s recorded on it should be Magic Texts. Perhaps it will be of use to you."
Li Wei was a bit surprised as he accepted the hide Scroll from the Witch.
He opened it and found that it recorded an ancient form of Magic.
At a glance, Li Wei couldn’t even tell what kind of Magic it was.
He had never seen it before; it was likely a lost ancient Magic.
It would take some time to study it before he could know exactly what Magic was recorded on the hide Scroll.
Li Wei put away the hide Scroll. This was a pleasant surprise.
The Snow Bear Tribe was incredibly efficient. In less than an hour, the residents had packed their belongings and gathered at the entrance, ready to leave.
Everyone was laden with bundles, large and small. Even the children carried packs bigger than themselves, not even leaving behind the iron cooking pots.
A few Warriors from the tribe were specifically tasked with carrying the Witch’s various medicinal herbs, hide scrolls, and bone books.
Only a few, fully armed and holding weapons, were on alert, ready for battle at any moment.
The group set out on the road to Ice and Snow City.
After walking for a while, Li Wei glanced at his map and said to Xiong Er beside him, "At our current pace, if all goes smoothly, we should reach Fred City by evening."
Xiong Er said worriedly, "I hope so."
He glanced back. The Witch was sitting on the back of an old yak, head bowed as he fiddled with a few broken tortoise shells.
Xiong Er prayed in his heart, hoping the Snow Bear Tribe’s totem would bless them with a safe journey.
「Two and a half hours later.」
The group arrived near the Snow Wolf Tribe’s territory.
Xiong Wei planned to have everyone rest for a while outside the Snow Wolf Tribe’s settlement.
After all, there were women and children in their party.
Walking in the snow was exhausting, and the women and children clearly had less stamina than the men.
Their endurance needed to be taken into account.
"We’re almost there! The Snow Wolf Tribe is just ahead. We’ll rest there for a bit," Xiong Wei announced loudly, trying to lift everyone’s tired spirits.
After walking a little further, he felt that something was wrong.
The scent of blood hung in the wind.
Xiong Wei’s expression changed. He had a bad feeling.
Li Wei’s brow furrowed slightly; he too sensed that something was amiss.
He quickened his pace, simultaneously releasing his Spiritual Perception to scan the Snow Wolf Tribe’s settlement ahead.
His face grew grim as his perception registered the situation within the settlement.
Not caring if the others would be shocked, Li Wei quickly rose into the air and flew toward the Snow Wolf Tribe.
Arriving above the Snow Wolf Tribe’s settlement, Li Wei’s expression turned ugly as he looked down at the ruins below.
His Spiritual Perception swept over the ruins, finding no survivors.
Everyone in the Snow Wolf Tribe was dead, and not even their bodies remained.
Only ruins and bloodstains were left.
It seemed the Snow Wolf Tribe had been destroyed not long ago; the bloodstains hadn’t yet been covered by the wind and snow.
Li Wei worried that the Demonized Creatures that had destroyed the Snow Wolf Tribe might not have left.
He circled the area, only finding some footprints to the south, but saw no sign of any Demonized Creatures.
By the time he returned to the Snow Wolf Tribe’s settlement, Xiong Er and the others had already reached the entrance.
Everyone stared in horror at the destroyed ruins of the Snow Wolf Tribe.
Xiong Er’s face was extremely grim. If Li Wei hadn’t been at the Snow Bear Tribe, the Snow Wolf Tribe’s fate would likely have been their own.
Seeing this, Xiong Wei didn’t dare to stop and rest anymore.
He arranged for the women and children to take turns resting on the cart pulled by the old yak, encouraging everyone to push on and persevere.
The group hurried toward Ice and Snow City with a sense of urgency.
AROOO!
The roar of a Magic Beast echoed from not far away, startling the group and making their hearts pound with fear.
Xiong Wei gazed into the distance and saw several figures standing on a hillside.
He reassured everyone, "Don’t worry, it’s just a few snow wolves. They won’t dare attack a large group."
Just as Xiong Wei had said, the snow wolves watched from a distance for a moment before turning and leaving.
The rest of the journey proceeded without any further incidents.
After much hurrying, the group finally arrived outside Ice and Snow City just before the sun completely set.
Seeing the scene outside Ice and Snow City, Li Wei’s expression grew serious.
The snow outside the city walls bore many Traces of battle, and bloodstains had yet to be covered by the wind and snow.
Clearly, Ice and Snow City had also been attacked by Demonized Creatures.
Li Wei wasn’t sure how many Demon Seeds Aguru had scattered across the Snowfield.
Or rather, how many Demon Seeds the Demon God’s Apostle, Basam, had scattered.
He had traveled here to Ice and Snow City from the Extreme Cold Abyss, thousands of miles away, riding the Ice Emperor.
He had no idea how many Magic Beast habitats he had passed along the way.
If Basam had been sowing Demon Seeds all along the way, then the entire Extreme North Icefield was likely in danger.
Although Magic Beasts were rare in the Extreme North Icefield, the sheer size of the area meant their total number wasn’t small.
Besides, any Magic Beast capable of surviving in the Extreme North Icefield was bound to be powerful.
If these Magic Beasts were Demonized and their strength further enhanced, it would be a fatal blow to all the native tribes of the Extreme North Icefield.
Li Wei said his goodbyes to Xiong Er.
Xiong Wei was busy settling his tribespeople, so he wasn’t there to see Li Wei off.
Li Wei told Xiong Er that if he ever needed anything, he could find him at the Ice Jade Palace anytime.
「Back at the Ice Jade Palace.」
During dinner, Gu Sewei brought up the day’s events with Li Wei.
"This afternoon, a group of crazed Magic Beasts appeared outside the city and attacked Fred City. Fortunately, the gates were closed in time, and there were no casualties."
Li Wei told Gu Sewei about how the Demon Seeds were causing creatures to undergo Demonization.
Gu Sewei looked shocked and said worriedly, "It’s not just humans? Even Magic Beasts are affected by the Demon Seeds."
"Then Monice... she wouldn’t also be..."
Li Wei said, "Besides her and the members of the Rebel Army, we must be vigilant for others in the city who might have had a Demon Seed planted in them."
Gu Sewei’s expression tightened as she imagined the worst-case scenario.
