"Hello, my name is Li Wei."
Li Wei introduced himself to Xiong Er’s older brother, Xiong Wei.
Xiong Wei smiled good-naturedly and said, "Xiong Er has told me about you. He said you’re an incredibly powerful Mage. Seeing you today, I can tell you’re truly extraordinary."
Li Wei replied humbly, "Not at all. I’m just a little bit skilled."
The two chatted for a moment before Xiong Er returned.
Xiong Er was a little surprised to see them getting along so well.
He glanced at his brother, then turned to Li Wei and said, "The Witch has agreed to see you."
"Okay, thank you."
"Follow me."
Li Wei followed Xiong Er to the residence of the Snow Bear Tribe’s Witch.
The Witch’s home looked rather dilapidated, a dwelling that was likely built many years ago.
The entrance was covered by a thick bear hide, shielding it from the wind and rain.
Xiong Er lifted the bearskin and gestured for Li Wei to enter.
After stepping inside, Li Wei found the room was cluttered with all sorts of things.
The only clear space was where the Witch was sitting.
He sat before a low table, upon which burned a single candle. Its flame could only illuminate the small area around the table.
The vast majority of the room was shrouded in darkness.
Li Wei could see clearly enough, but he wondered if the Snow Bear Tribe’s Witch could do the same.
The Witch’s voice reached Li Wei’s ears. "Please, sit."
His voice was like that of a venerable elder, one that inspired unconscious respect and compelled one to listen.
Li Wei sat down opposite the Witch. A thick animal hide was spread on the floor, so it wasn’t cold to sit on.
He looked at the Witch, whose body was mostly shrouded in darkness, revealing only a pair of age-bent hands. "I hope you’ll forgive my intrusion, venerable sir," he said. "I’ve come to visit you today about a matter of great importance."
The Witch said, "If I can help, I will certainly do my best."
Li Wei took out the Ancient Texts and placed them on the table. "I heard you are skilled at reading ancient scripts," he said. "So I must trouble you to help me interpret these, especially any information related to the Demon Seed. I’m counting on you."
When the Witch saw what Li Wei had brought out, his eyes shifted slightly, showing a hint of interest.
He had a unique fondness for such ancient things.
He reached out to touch the animal hides and Beast Bones, feeling the roughness of their age and texture.
The Witch spoke softly, "Some of these Ancient Texts I have never seen before. I can only do my best."
"Then I’ll be troubling you," Li Wei said with a nod.
The Witch picked up the Ancient Texts and held them under the candlelight, studying them carefully and pondering the meaning of the ancient script.
From time to time, he would pick up a nearby animal-hide scroll to cross-reference and interpret.
Li Wei sat beside him and watched, originally intending to learn some of the Ancient Texts himself.
However, just looking at them gave him a headache and made his eyes swim.
So he simply closed his eyes and began to meditate and cultivate.
He would wait for the Witch to finish deciphering the Ancient Texts related to the Demon Seed.
An unknown amount of time passed before the rustling sound of turning scrolls finally stopped.
Li Wei slowly opened his eyes and looked at the Witch, who had already put down the scroll in his hands.
The Witch was silent for a moment before speaking. "This Demon Seed you mentioned... is it related to the Ancient Demon Gods?"
Li Wei nodded and told him about the descent of the Demon God’s Apostles into the world.
After hearing this, the Witch fell silent for a long time before speaking again.
"Are the Ancient Demon Gods returning?"
Li Wei didn’t answer.
The Witch composed himself, then picked up a Beast Bone to explain the Ancient Texts to Li Wei.
The Beast Bone recorded a story of the Demon Seed rampaging through the mortal world.
To Li Wei, it sounded like a story, but it was something that had truly happened many years ago.
The Witch said, "According to these Ancient Texts, the Demon Seed is not a Magic Beast, but rather a Power that induces Demonization in humans."
"And not just humans. The Ancient Texts also record demonized animals and plants."
Li Wei asked, "What is the price of Demonization?"
The Witch answered, "Perhaps the loss of reason, leaving only the instinct to kill."
"In the initial stage of Demonization, the Demon Seed will drastically stimulate an individual’s potential, boosting their strength."
"The longer it goes on, the deeper the Demonization, the less reason remains, until they finally become monsters that only know how to kill."
Li Wei was confused. "If it’s just to create some monsters, what good does that do the Demon Gods? Is it just that they want to see the world descend into chaos?"
He couldn’t understand such a spiteful, seemingly pointless act.
The Witch shook his head. "I don’t think it’s that simple. This Stone Slab records a village where everyone was demonized. All the demonized humans and animals disappeared overnight."
"The truth you seek might be hidden behind that."
Li Wei nodded. "Thank you for helping me decipher these Ancient Texts. This is a token of my gratitude."
He took out a pouch full of Gold Coins and placed it on the Witch’s table.
The Witch didn’t even glance at it. "There’s no need to be so polite," he said.
Li Wei stood up and left.
Lifting the heavy hide flap, Li Wei stepped out of the Witch’s room and took a deep breath.
The air inside the Witch’s room had been a bit murky, a mixture of smells from various dried ingredients and the scent of some unknown medicine being brewed.
After this visit, Li Wei had a rough understanding of the Demon Seed.
Before the Demon Seed manifests, there is almost no way to tell if an individual carries it.
The initial stage of Demonization is characterized by a surge in Power.
The Demonization Middle Stage is characterized by the appearance of demonic physical changes.
The Demonization Late Stage is characterized by the loss of reason and a pure killing instinct.
’What exactly does the Demon Seed mean to the Demon Gods?’
Li Wei didn’t know.
He suddenly thought of the Power of Faith. For a Divine Spirit, the Power of Faith is Power.
A Divine Spirit gathers the Power of Faith by gaining the belief of the world’s people.
’Are the Demon Gods also using the Demon Seed to collect some kind of Power?’
Divine Spirits need living people to provide faith.
But Demon Gods take away all demonized creatures.
One is life, the other is death.
Perhaps this was the irreconcilable conflict between Divine Spirits and Demon Gods.
Li Wei shook his head, feeling he was overthinking things.
He walked toward the gates of the Snow Bear Tribe, preparing to return to Ice and Snow City.
Suddenly, with a tremendous BOOM, the gates of the Snow Bear Tribe were sent flying by a massive force, soaring over Li Wei’s head on a gust of wild wind.
The city walls, built from giant stones, were also destroyed by this force.
A towering figure appeared at the entrance of the Snow Bear Tribe.
Li Wei looked up. It was an enormous Snow Bear.
The Snow Bear, which should have been covered in white fur, now had large black patches on its body, like necrotic skin.
The Snow Bear’s eyes were blood-red, filled with savagery.
"ROOOAR!"
With a furious roar, the Snow Bear swiped a paw at a guard who had fallen in the rubble, intending to crush him into paste.
"Stop!"
A figure rushed past Li Wei at high speed.
BANG!
The massive paw descended, but it was blocked.
A powerful shockwave sent all the nearby snow flying.
Cold snowflakes blinded Li Wei.
THUD! THUD!
Two more heavy thuds rang out, followed by a muffled groan.
The swirling snow in front of Li Wei dissipated, revealing two figures.
An ice-blue Ice Bear materialized behind Xiong Er, grappling with the Snow Bear.
He was being pushed back, steadily losing ground.
His Power was no match for the Snow Bear Magic Beast.
On the other side, Xiong Wei had blocked the Snow Bear’s descending paw, saving a man.
Seeing that his younger brother was no match for the Snow Bear, he roared and ran toward it with his arms wide open.
"AHH!"
He grabbed one of the Snow Bear’s thighs, unleashed his full strength, and his muscles swelled, bursting the beast-hide coat off his body.
BOOM! RUMBLE!
Holding one of the Snow Bear’s legs, Xiong Wei flipped it over.
Xiong Er seized the opportunity and commanded his Ice Bear to attack.
"Ice Roar!"
The Ice Bear roared, its claws glowing with an ice-blue light as it viciously slammed them into the fallen Snow Bear.
THUD! THUD!
Two dull thuds rang out, like the beating of a great cowhide drum.
The wind and snow were shaken into a momentary lull.
"What happened?"
The Warriors of the Snow Bear Tribe also ran over with their weapons, surrounding the Snow Bear and watching the battlefield nervously.
Xiong Wei and Xiong Er were the strongest in the Snow Bear Tribe.
If even the two of them combined couldn’t handle the Snow Bear, then the Snow Bear Tribe was in grave danger today.
"ARGH-ROAR!"
The fallen Snow Bear let out a deafening roar.
It scrambled to its feet and attacked the two brothers.
BANG! BANG!
Both Xiong Wei and Xiong Er were sent flying by the immense force, soaring over Li Wei’s head and crashing through an igloo.
Inside the igloo, an adult and child huddled together, staring in terror at the scene outside.
"AWOOOO!"
The Snow Bear planted its paws on the ground and roared at the sky.
The red light in its eyes was as piercing as fresh blood.
THUMP!
One of the Snow Bear Tribe’s Warriors fell to the ground in fright.
Even under the combined attack of Xiong Er and Xiong Wei, this strange Snow Bear was almost completely unharmed.
This shocked everyone to the core, filling them with terror.
Li Wei stared at the Snow Bear in the distance, sensing a familiar aura from it.
’This is... a Demon Seed? A Demonized Creature?’
The Snow Bear lowered its head, its blood-red eyes scanning the world, searching for a target.
Spotting Li Wei nearby, it instinctively lunged to bite him.
"AWOOOO!"
"Frozen Tomb!"
HSSSsssss!
CRACK! CRACK! CRACK!
Frost spread over the Snow Bear’s entire body. Ice covered it, instantly freezing it into a giant block.
Under the sunlight, the block of ice glittered with a blinding light.
Everyone stared at Li Wei in utter shock, unable to believe that such a powerful Snow Bear had been instantly frozen solid by him.
CRACK! CRACKLE! CRACK!
Fissures appeared on the ice block, spreading rapidly.
With a loud BANG, the Snow Bear broke free from the Frozen Tomb Magic, furiously raising its paw to slam down on Li Wei.
Li Wei was also a little surprised that the Frozen Tomb was ineffective.
Perhaps the Snow Bear itself possessed a high resistance to ice.
That must be why it was able to retain its ability to move and break free after being frozen.
Originally, he had wanted to spare the Snow Bear’s life to study the Demonized Creature.
But this turn of events was beyond his expectations. Li Wei could no longer hold back.
’This is a good chance to test an idea I had.’
He activated the High Level Flame Rules.
He drew out all the thermal energy from the space around the Snow Bear.
Thermal energy extraction! Absolute Zero!
CRACK... CRACKLE...
The Snow Bear’s movements grew slower and slower, finally stopping just ten centimeters above Li Wei’s head, where it ceased to move.
There wasn’t a single wound on its body.
However, the temperature of the blood, muscles, and bones inside the Snow Bear’s body had all approached Absolute Zero.
It was frozen from the inside out.
Now, any force that struck the Snow Bear would cause its body to shatter into a pile of ice shards.
