Harem System In A fantasy World

Chapter 526: The expression of an affinity

Aria looked towards Elion. "And naturally, his fire wants to eat everything."

Elion shrugged.

"It suits me."

"That is not something you should admit so proudly."

The system suddenly chimed once more.

[Origin Core has adapted to the Host’s new understanding]

[Elemental Will Perception acquired]

[Elemental Will Perception: Allows the Host to faintly perceive the natural intent carried by elemental mana. Perception becomes clearer as the Host’s understanding and Will increase]

[Due to the unique nature of the Origin Core, the Host is not restricted to awakening a single expression of an affinity’s Will]

Elion’s expression brightened up.

Zenith noticed immediately.

"What is it?"

"The system says I am not restricted to awakening only one Will for each affinity." Zenith fell completely silent.

Mira raised a brow.

"Is that unusual?"

Zenith slowly turned towards her.

"Most mages spend their entire lives trying to understand one expression of an element’s Will. Even extremely talented mages usually develop only the path most compatible with their personality and experiences."

Her gaze returned to Elion.

"If Hubby can comprehend several Wills from the same affinity, then his fire might consume, protect, transform, spread, and destroy depending upon what he requires."

Tessa looked towards Elion with an increasingly disturbed expression. "So his already ridiculous magic has just become more ridiculous."

"Essentially," Mira replied.

Elion smiled. "I prefer the term versatile."

Aria sighed. "Your head is going to become even larger after this."

"It has remained the same size."

"You know what I mean."

Elion chuckled at her teasing as he considered what he had learned.

Until now, he had treated spells as fixed structures. There were proper methods of forming them, established amounts of mana to invest, and predictable results once they were released.

But Zenith’s explanation had revealed that those structures were merely the beginning.

A spell was not only mana given form. It was a struggle between the mage’s Will and the nature of the affinity itself.

Weak mages won that struggle through brute force and memorized technique. Strong mages understood what they were controlling.

The truly powerful probably no longer needed to struggle at all. Their Will and the Will of the element moved as one.

Elion glanced towards Zenith.

"What about Laws?"

She smiled, clearly pleased that he was taking the lesson seriously.

"A Will tells you what an affinity seeks to do. A Law reveals the principle that allows it to do so."

She raised the gentle flame again.

"You may understand that fire seeks to consume, but the Law of Consumption would teach you why it can convert what it burns into heat and energy. Once you begin understanding that principle, you are no longer limited to ordinary flames."

The small fire flickered.

For the briefest moment, Elion saw the mana surrounding it disappear into the flame despite not being flammable.

"You could make fire consume mana, vitality, spiritual energy, or anything else that follows a similar principle."

The flame vanished from Zenith’s hand.

"Understanding a Law means moving beyond the surface expression of an affinity and touching the rule beneath it."

Elion stared at her for several seconds.

Then he grinned.

Zenith’s smile immediately faded.

"Why are you looking at me like that?"

"I was merely thinking that bringing you along was an excellent decision."

She brightened.

"Of course it was."

"You may actually be useful."

Her expression froze.

Aria, Mira, and Tessa burst into laughter.

Zenith slowly narrowed her eyes.

"Hubby."

Elion took a cautious step backward.

"What?"

"You should remember that I am now helping with everyone’s training."

"I remember."

"And pain builds character."

Elion’s brow twitched. "Have you been speaking to Dorian?"

Zenith smiled sweetly.

"No."

The rest of the journey passed without incident.

Isla had been so absorbed in her work inside the workshop that she remained completely unaware of everything that had happened.

Once the others settled back into the lounge, Elion excused himself and made his way towards the workshop alone.

The doors slid open silently as he approached.

Isla sat hunched over one of the large workbenches, surrounded by tools, sheets of metal, scattered crystals, and several pieces of parchment covered in intricate designs.

Her long blonde hair had been loosely tied behind her head, though several strands had fallen across her face while she worked.

She did not notice him enter.

Elion leaned against the doorway and watched her for a moment.

Her attention was completely fixed upon a small circular object held between a pair of metal clamps.

Several thin runes had been carved along its silver surface, and she was carefully guiding a narrow stream of mana through them using a crystal-tipped tool.

The serious concentration on her face made him smile. "You know, someone could walk in here and steal half your equipment without you noticing."

Isla jolted sharply.

The tool slipped slightly in her hand, though she managed to pull it away before damaging the object.

She spun towards him.

"Elion!"

He raised both hands.

"My apologies."

"You startled me."

"I noticed."

Isla released a quiet breath before lowering the tool onto the workbench.

Only then did she properly look at him.

Her eyes widened, and for several seconds, she simply stared.

"Elion... your eyes."

He smiled and stepped farther into the workshop.

"You like them?"

Isla slowly rose from her seat and approached him, her gaze moving between the warm golden glow of his left eye and the star-filled darkness of his right.

"They are beautiful," she whispered.

"That seems to be the general opinion."

"What happened to them?"

"I finally merged with the World Eyes I received during the trial."

Her expression was immediately filled with concern. "Was it dangerous?"

"A little."

"How little?"

"I bled from the eyes, nearly had my mind overwhelmed by an ocean of information, and maybe I also had everyone worried for a bit, but everything turned out fine."

Isla stared at him. "That does not sound like a little."

"Well, it was a quick recovery." She continued looking at him with quiet disapproval.

Elion smiled and briefly explained some of the World Eyes’ abilities, though he avoided listing every single one. Even the simpler abilities were enough to leave Isla speechless.
