It took the three of them several seconds to break free from whatever hold Elion’s gaze had placed upon them, and by then, he had already walked past Vivian and Cain.

Vivian’s eyes trembled when she realized that she had completely lost focus and dropped her guard.

It was suddenly as though all her years of training had become useless.

How? she wondered, her head snapping towards the towering young man with the striking features.

So much about him had changed, not only his beautiful eyes, but this was definitely Elion. His build, his height, and even the aura clinging to his body were completely different.

It was unfathomable.

Then there was the light smile resting upon his face, as though nothing could bother him and even their presence meant nothing in his eyes.

The pair of beautiful women who had been walking beside him did not lose out to him in terms of appearance either, and Vivian was already familiar with one of them.

"Seems like something interesting is happening here, Zenovia," Elion said casually. "Do you need some help?"

The fact that he had completely disregarded Vivian and Cain, casually walking past them and exposing his back without the slightest concern, was nothing short of disrespectful.

Not only that, he had proceeded to offer Zenovia his help after seeing that the three of them were on the verge of breaking into a fight.

And that was not even the end of it.

The two women who had entered with him were quite clearly his bedwarmers, yet he had allowed them to remain standing near the entrance, completely unprotected.

How arrogant could one person be!?

Vivian could not understand it!

What was even more surprising was the fact that he seemed to be acquainted with Zenovia. How that was even possible, she didn’t know.

Maybe the world was just that small, so much so that two people on the run would know each other.

She attempted to probe Elion’s strength, only to discover that her perception was completely blocked.

In fact, the moment she tried, her perception failed to even materialize, dispersing into nothingness before it could reach him.

Another shocked frown formed upon her face.

Cain was frowning as well. He even stepped forward, intending to pull Elion back and demand an explanation for his interference, but stopped himself when he realized Elion was too far for him to reach by now, so he looked towards Vivian for instructions first.

Only then did he realize that she had also fallen into a trance.

Once Vivian noticed him trying to catch her attention, she shook her head and relaxed, lowering her guard.

For now, the two of them could only wait and watch as Elion stopped in front of Zenovia to see what he would do next.

Zenovia appeared just as surprised as they were, though for entirely different reasons. Elion had to wave one hand in front of her face before she finally broke free from her trance.

"Zenovia?" She blinked several times before looking up at him.

"Elion?"

Her gaze immediately drifted to his mismatched eyes again, lingering upon the warm golden glow of the left and the star-filled darkness of the right.

"Where have you been? And what happened to your eyes?"

"A long story," Elion replied. "How about you tell me your situation first?"

Zenovia seemed to remember the situation she was in and glanced past him towards Vivian and Cain.

Her momentary surprise faded, replaced by her earlier calm expression.

"These two followed me here," she explained. "They belong to an organization I used to be part of."

Elion raised a brow. "Used to?"

"The Assassins Guild, I guess I am now what they would call a rogue."

"And I assume the punishment for that is death."

Zenovia nodded. "Usually."

Elion looked over his shoulder.

Vivian and Cain remained several paces behind him, their daggers still held in their hands, though neither appeared eager to move.

His golden eye brightened faintly as he examined them.

’Oh, I have met these two before...’

A simple glance at their statuses while probing their strength was all he needed to make an immediate connection.

The system had warned him that they were disguised the first time he met them in Grimholt during the tournament, and he could more or less remember what they had spoken about at the time.

Perhaps that meeting had not been a coincidence after all.

The biggest question on his mind was, what was their goal on that day when they were disguised? And now that they were not wearing disguises any longer, did that mean this second meeting was nothing more than a chance meeting?

The fact that they were from the Assassins’ Guild was also a very peculiar outcome.

’I will keep the fact that I know their other identities to myself for now.’ He thought as he began to study the weapons with his eyes.

The thing that had drawn his curious gaze was the fact that thin grey mist clung to Vivian’s dagger, accompanied by several traces of green and violet mana.

The substance coating its edge was obviously some kind of poison, though the amount was too controlled to be lethal.

[Paralysis poison detected.]

[Estimated effect: Temporary loss of muscular control and consciousness.]

Elion’s gaze moved towards Cain’s weapon next, noting that there was no poison upon it.

However, the man’s stance and the way he kept glancing towards Vivian revealed that she was the one directing the confrontation.

’Interesting.’

Elion looked back at Zenovia. "So, do you want them dead?"

Vivian’s expression turned grim, while Cain’s grip tightened around his dagger.

Zenovia stared at Elion for a moment before releasing a quiet laugh. "You ask that far too casually."

"Well? It’s just a simple question."

"No," she replied after giving it some thought. "Not particularly."

"Then that makes things easier." Elion turned towards the two assassins.

Vivian’s eyes narrowed. "You intend to interfere in our guild’s business?"

He shrugged. "Nothing wrong with helping out a friend in need."

"How foolish, you would endanger yourself and your companions without even understanding the situation."

There was a veiled threat in her mentioning the two women who had chosen to remain silent up to now.

Vivian wanted to gauge his reaction if he mentioned them, but if he did, he didn’t show it. Perhaps he didn’t value their lives as much as she thought he did.

"I understand that two people followed someone I know into an isolated courtyard and drew their weapons against her."

"She is a rogue assassin with a bounty upon her head."

"Why should I care? If we asked around, you would be surprised to find that everyone wants someone dead."

Cain took a step forward. "This does not concern you, boy."

Elion looked towards him, and the moment their eyes met, Cain’s body froze.

A faint pressure entered his mind, not strong enough to force him to his knees, but more than sufficient to make every instinct within him scream that the person before him was not someone he should provoke.

Elion’s smile remained completely unbothered. "You were saying?"

Cain’s mouth opened, but no words came out. Vivian noticed the sudden stiffness in his body.

"Cain." Her voice snapped him out of it.

He stepped backward almost involuntarily, his face darkening with embarrassment. Despite his pride telling him to attack, he wisely chose not to do so since they didn’t have the initiative.

They didn’t even know what their opponent was capable of yet. Judging from how things had unfolded till now, he seemed to possess some kind of intimidation or mind-clouding technique, and they had no way of defending against it.

Cain could only hope that his superior had something in mind, because things were quickly spiraling out of control.
