Maya paused briefly.
"Considering the fact that she called Elion her husband, we already know her motive."
Marilyn nodded.
"So she fell for him."
Maya nodded as well.
"Her strength, however, remains a complete mystery to me. She could be as powerful as Asmodeus, which would make her a Saint and, in turn, a Demon King-level figure. Or perhaps she is not."
She shrugged.
"I cannot be certain. However, after Elion defeated us, he ventured into the heart of demon territory to steal what he had gone there for. He was supposed to be intercepted by Asmodeus, since he did not know that we were already aware of their plan beforehand."
Maya’s expression became more serious.
"However, Asmodeus died, while Elion and Zenith survived. That means she was probably the one who defeated him, even though the public was told that the coalition’s Saints were responsible for his death."
Marilyn’s expression grew sombre.
To put it simply, Zenith was a wildcard.
She sighed and massaged her brow.
"This young man continues to give me more and more surprises."
The best course of action would be to pretend they were none the wiser.
"In any case," Marilyn continued, "make sure to inform Lord Smith about this and get his thoughts on the matter."
"Understood."
Regardless, Marilyn would proceed under the assumption that Zenith was harmless.
If she was willing to walk around wearing human skin, then it probably meant she was more than happy to live a peaceful life alongside Elion.
Marilyn could only hope that the demon woman intended to keep things that way.
...
Later that evening, Elion could be seen enjoying dinner at a lavish establishment with nearly everyone present.
Aria, Isla, and Tessa had left the confines of the Ark, of course, and he had taken the liberty of inviting Uta, Yaana, Maya, and Zenovia as well.
Unfortunately, Mayumi had turned down his invitation.
Elion’s heart was wounded by the ladies’ rattled expressions when they discovered that he had somehow managed to swindle the poor boy into associating with him.
In an attempt to defend himself, Elion revealed that he actually made another friend named Aeron Tudelig, the son of Duke Tudelig.
"Preposterous!"
Mira slammed her hand against the table in a comical manner, feigning utter disbelief.
Elion could only look towards Maya and Zenovia for help, hoping they would speak up on his behalf.
Of course, the two seemed to be enjoying watching him suffer, so he could only pretend to eat his steak in silence, acting as though he possessed the thickest skin in the world.
Naturally, the sight of eight beautiful flowers dining with one young man and a skinny boy drew more than a few curious gazes from the surrounding patrons.
They had taken a massive table for themselves, and considering the fact that Elion had not even bothered to dress appropriately while visiting such a luxurious establishment filled with influential people, it would have been strange if one or two hopeful men did not attempt to try their luck with the ladies.
Most of the patrons were content to observe from a distance, but three well-dressed young men seated near the opposite end of the dining hall had been whispering among themselves for quite some time.
The one seated in the centre appeared to be their leader. He was handsome enough, with neatly combed blond hair, a fashionable dark-blue coat, and several expensive rings decorating his fingers.
His eyes had spent most of the evening drifting between Mira, Zenith, and Isla, though he occasionally glanced towards the others as well.
Elion had noticed him from the beginning.
His new eyes made it nearly impossible not to notice when someone was staring at him or the people around him, but since the young man had done nothing more than look, Elion had chosen to ignore him.
Looking was not a crime.
At least, not until someone started doing it as shamelessly as Cain had.
The blond young man eventually rose from his seat, straightened his coat, and approached their table with his two companions following closely behind him.
Mira noticed them first, though she continued eating without paying them much attention, but she did look towards Elion with an amused expression.
He pretended not to notice.
"Good evening, ladies," the blond man greeted pleasantly once he reached their table.
His eyes briefly passed over Elion and Uta before returning to the women.
"My name is Cedric Valmont. My father is Baron Valmont, lord of several prosperous territories south of Silvergrove."
No one responded immediately.
The silence stretched long enough for Cedric’s confident smile to stiffen slightly.
Yaana looked around the table before pointing towards herself.
"Were you talking to all of us?"
Cedric recovered quickly.
"Yes, of course. It would have been rude not to introduce myself when fate has placed so many lovely women beneath the same roof."
"Fate did not place them here," Uta muttered, more annoyed by the fact that this guy was pretending as if he couldn’t see that his sister was too young to be playing his games. "Elion invited everyone."
Cedric finally looked towards the skinny young man.
"And you are?"
"Eating."
Yaana burst into laughter.
Maya quietly lowered her gaze towards her plate, though the slight movement of her shoulders revealed that she was trying not to join her.
Cedric’s companions frowned, but Cedric maintained his smile.
"I merely wished to extend an invitation. My companions and I have reserved a private lounge upstairs, and we would be honoured if some of you joined us for drinks after your meal."
"Some of us?" Isla asked.
Cedric’s gaze moved towards her.
"All of you would naturally be welcome."
He glanced towards Elion and Uta again.
"The establishment does have a comfortable public waiting area for servants and escorts."
The table fell silent.
Elion slowly placed another piece of steak into his mouth and began chewing.
Mira covered her lips with one hand.
Tessa lowered her head.
They were not offended; rather, they were trying desperately not to laugh.
Cedric misunderstood their reactions entirely and smiled more confidently.
"You need not worry. Any expenses will be placed upon my family’s account."
Zenovia leaned forward, resting her chin upon one hand.
"And what makes you believe any of us would be interested?"
Cedric’s eyes brightened when she finally addressed him.
"I do not expect you to decide without getting to know us. I merely thought that a conversation among people of similar standing would be preferable to spending the evening with..."
His gaze drifted towards Elion’s plain clothes.
"...less refined company."
Elion continued eating.
Zenith tilted her head.
"Hubby, he is insulting you. Can I end him?"
The smile on her face was far too excited for someone asking permission to kill another person.
Elion gave her a wry smile and shook his head, all while trying to stop himself from bursting into laughter at Cedric’s bewildered expression.
"You are not going to do anything?" she asked with a frown.
"I am enjoying my meal, and if we went around castrating every fool who ogled you ladies, every man in the city would be a eunuch by now. His needless insult aside, at least he has enough decency to keep his gaze appropriate, unlike most people here."
He glanced around the establishment as he said the last part.
