Vivian carefully considered her next words.

She would have been a bit more worried if she intended to lie or tell him half-truths, but she hadn’t been told much herself, and she only knew bits and pieces of the master’s abilities.

"Our master did not explain exactly how he learned about the fragments," she began. "He rarely explains how he obtains any of his information. However, he is what people call a diviner, a very powerful one at that, and there are very few things that can remain hidden from him once he takes an interest in them."

Elion’s golden eye glowed faintly as he watched her.

[No deliberate deception detected.]

She was telling the truth, or at least repeating what she genuinely believed to be true.

But it was hard to believe that diviners actually existed, since that field was normally considered to be mostly theoretical, or at least lost magic to some.

However, it would make complete sense why he knew things no one else was supposed to know, which made the claim much more believable.

"And what does he want from me?" Elion asked.

"He wants you to meet with him."

"That is all?"

Vivian hesitated for the briefest moment.

"He also wishes to recruit you into the guild, but he instructed us to make it clear that accepting his invitation does not mean you have to agree to join. He only wants to speak with you."

[No deliberate deception detected.]

Elion leaned back slightly.

’Joining the assassins guild, huh.’

It wasn’t something the current him would ever consider, especially considering how they had treated one of their own in Zenovia.

And it was a line of work that would probably require him to abandon his morals if he ever wanted to take the big dirty jobs that would pay well enough to entice him.

He never judged Zenovia because of it, though; people had to make a living somehow, but since he had options, he would rather not.

He was long past being the desperate, weak boy that he used to be. But if there was a chance he could get Kurogoroshi’s fragment, then that would make things a bit tricky.

If he could obtain it without joining, that would be quite fortunate.

"And where is this meeting supposed to take place?"

"In Haven."

Aria’s brows rose.

"The capital?"

Vivian nodded.

"Our headquarters is not inside Haven itself, but the master said someone would meet you once you arrived and guide you the rest of the way."

"That sounds suspicious," Mira commented.

Cain glanced towards her but wisely kept his gaze fixed upon her face.

"Everything involving the Assassins Guild sounds suspicious," he muttered. "That does not necessarily mean it is a trap."

"That is exactly what someone preparing a trap would say," Tessa replied.

Cain opened his mouth, but Vivian gave him a warning look before he could respond.

Elion ignored their exchange.

"I already have business in Haven, so meeting him would not be particularly inconvenient. However, I still want to know how he learned about the weapon."

"We do not know," Vivian answered.

Elion’s eyes narrowed.

[No deliberate deception detected.]

There was no falsehood in her answer, nor did it appear as though she was deliberately concealing anything important.

Vivian seemed to understand what his silence meant.

"The master told us only enough to gain your attention. He said that you currently possessed one fragment of an incomplete weapon and that nine others remained scattered across the world."

The others quietly looked towards Elion, mostly curious about this mysterious weapon.

Zenith tilted her head.

"So he knows quite a lot."

"Yes," Elion replied.

Far more than Elion was comfortable with.

Kurogoroshi had remained inside his spatial storage since he returned from the bloodline trials.

He had hardly used it afterwards, and even the likes of Uta, Yaana, and Maya, who had seen the weapon before, had no reason to know that it was only a fragment.

Someone discovering not only its incomplete state, but also the exact number of fragments remaining, was far from ordinary.

"Did he tell you where this fragment is?" Elion asked.

Vivian shook her head.

"No."

Well, of course not.

Even if they had been told, they probably would not reveal information that valuable so easily.

Elion had only been trying his luck.

What he really wanted to understand was their master’s apparent fixation on recruiting him into the Assassins Guild.

"Why does your master want me to join the guild so badly?"

Once again, Vivian shook her head.

"He never told us."

Elion studied her for a moment before turning towards Cain.

The older man visibly flinched beneath his gaze, the fear written plainly across his face.

"So, you two have been following me since that time at the academy tournament?" Elion finally asked.

The question earned shocked looks from both assassins.

"How did you..." Vivian began.

His eyes had looked completely ordinary back then, so it made little sense for him to have been capable of seeing through their disguises at the time.

Elion shrugged.

"I could see through your disguises even then. When I ran into the two of you trying to detain Zenovia earlier, I recognised you almost immediately."

Vivian gave a wry smile.

So he had seen through them from the very beginning.

The only other person who had ever given her this same uncomfortable feeling was their master, and honestly, she was beginning to grow tired of dealing with people who possessed abilities that seemingly allowed them to see through everything.

Elion put on a pensive expression, stroking his chin for a few moments before moving on to another matter.

"And Zenovia? What are your plans for her?"

His expression became slightly more serious.

"It goes without saying that she is under my protection, so if you decide to proceed with the intention of terminating her, or even attempt to take her against her will, then we are going to become enemies."

Elion glanced towards Zenovia and found a rare appreciative smile upon her face.

She gave him a thankful nod, earning a smug smile from Elion.

’Real smooth, huh?’ he thought inwardly.

Vivian frowned.

She did not have the authority to make decisions on matters like this, so she could not give him a direct answer. Making false promises would not work either, so she simply gave him the best response she could.

"I will report the situation to the master, and you will be informed of his decision the next time we meet."

Elion accepted that answer.

It was also reassuring to see that she had not attempted to lie to him, though considering he had warned her from the very beginning, it would have been foolish of her to even try.

"Okay." Elion clapped his hands together. "If that is all, I will let you two out. Seeing as your boss is a diviner who seems to know so much about me, I am assuming he will be aware of my presence when I eventually arrive in Haven."

He gave them a casual wave.

"So, toodles!"

Woosh!

Just like that, Vivian and Cain suddenly found themselves dumped into a narrow alley, landing roughly on their asses and letting out disgruntled curses almost simultaneously.

"So!" Elion said, looking back towards the ladies, who were giving him strange looks because of the rather disrespectful manner in which he had dismissed the pair from his vessel. "What is our next stop!?"

He asked the question with the most innocent smile he could manage.

After answering a few curious questions from the likes of Maya, Yaana, Uta, and Zenovia, regarding the ark, and giving them a short tour of the interior, he safely dropped the twins off at their quarters and Maya at her father’s manor.

As for Zenovia... well, he was somewhat keeping her hostage.

When she eventually asked to be dropped off as well, Elion gave her a curious look.

"Do you have somewhere to stay?"

Her silence was all the reason he needed to keep her from wandering off alone - that, and threatening her with the fact that she was a wanted rogue.
