A little while later, the feast had been dismissed, and Elion, Paul, Terressa, and the others had all taken residence in a more private structure within the clan.

The atmosphere was considerably more solemn now.

Well, that was if one counted out Elion.

He remained as relaxed as ever, seemingly unconcerned about the fact that he had just possibly provoked an entire clan that apparently had enough influence to make even Paul nervous.

Eventually, Elion could no longer stand the awkward silence.

Paul had been a free spirit for most of the time they had spent together, usually laughing loudly, drinking even louder, and behaving as though the world had very few problems worth worrying about.

Seeing the usually carefree patriarch sitting there with such a grim expression was very uncomfortable.

Elion finally broke the silence.

"Am I to assume this Dragonborn Clan is not some simple clan?"

Paul grumbled and nodded.

"Tell me," he said, leaning back slightly. "What do you know about the power of a clan?"

Elion thought about it for a moment before shrugging.

"Not much, honestly."

"Most people are familiar with the rankings given to noble houses, so they naturally assume clans operate the same way." Paul’s expression became more serious. "You’d be surprised. Sometimes, the disparity in strength and resources between two clans is simply unfathomable."

Elion raised a brow.

"Most people simply don’t know because clans tend to be secretive about their internal affairs. Nobles, on the other hand, love flaunting their wealth, influence, and strength."

"So there is a ranking system for clans as well?"

Paul shook his head.

"No."

Elion frowned slightly.

"Then how do people distinguish between them?"

"They don’t."

Paul gave a humourless chuckle.

"That’s precisely where the misinformation comes from. People look at one clan, see that it possesses a few powerful members and considerable resources, then assume another clan must be roughly the same."

He leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees.

"But clans aren’t noble houses. There is no official ranking, no universally accepted classification, and no authority that goes around measuring their strength. Some clans are little more than extended families with a few talented cultivators. Others have existed for thousands of years and possess monsters whose names never appear in public records."

Elion’s expression became more thoughtful.

"So the Dragonborn Clan could be one of those?"

Paul’s expression darkened.

"Not could be. They are, and that’s what worries me."

Elion frowned.

That was indeed troublesome.

"What are the chances they’ll retaliate over what happened here?"

"If I had to say?" Paul leaned back slightly. "Very likely. Especially considering we killed one of their own. However, they seem to have elevated your status to that of some mysterious hidden expert. They’ll probably assume our clan has the backing of a powerhouse."

Elion nodded as Paul continued.

"Which means they’ll be far more likely to proceed cautiously rather than immediately retaliate. They’ll want to investigate your background first, figure out who you are, and determine whether offending you is worth the consequences."

Elion nodded.

"I thought the same."

Paul sighed, but then, almost as quickly, the familiar carefree smile returned to his face.

"No matter." He slapped his palm against his knee and grinned. "If they do come looking for a fight, we’ll give them one!"

Elion stared at him for a moment as a grin slowly appeared on his own face.

"If they cause trouble for you, I can always wipe out their entire clan." Zenith’s eerily calm voice came from the side.

Elion’s brow twitched as he gave his beautiful woman a glance.

"That too."

Paul and Terressa exchanged confused glances.

"What exactly does that mean?" Paul asked.

Unfortunately, neither Elion nor Zenith seemed particularly eager to elaborate.

Terressa narrowed her eyes at the pair, clearly sensing that there was something she was missing, but after everything she had witnessed today, she decided that perhaps she was better off not asking.

The day passed quickly after that.

With the earlier incident finally behind them, the atmosphere gradually returned to normal, and Elion, his women, and Tessa’s family spent the rest of the day getting to know one another better.

Paul, in particular, seemed to have completely forgotten that he had nearly beaten Elion to death earlier that day, happily drinking with him as though the two had been lifelong friends.

Terressa was considerably more reserved, though she occasionally joined the conversation.

The other members of the Crimson Family also slowly became more comfortable around Elion, and before long, the tension from the unwanted visitors had almost completely disappeared.

Elion was curious to know what had happened to the Dragonborn Clan guy’s body, and he was told that they had just stored it away in case someone from the clan came asking for it.

Eventually, however, evening gave way to night.

The clan’s celebrations gradually became more ceremonial.

Paul had already instructed several of his clansmen to begin preparing after the little incident with Adonis, and despite the absurdly short amount of time they had been given, the preparations had somehow been completed.

By the time the moon had risen high above the clan’s territory, the ceremonial hall had been transformed once again.

This time, however, there would be no drunken interruptions or arrogant intruders. At least, that was what everyone was hoping.

It was finally time for the marriage ceremony.

The ceremonial hall looked completely different from earlier.

The damage from the battle had been repaired by Zenith’s magic, and the entire structure had been decorated with crimson banners, golden lanterns, and flowers that gave off a faint magical glow.

Rows of candles lined the walls, their flames swaying gently despite the complete lack of wind, while several clan elders had gathered near the centre of the hall to oversee the ceremony.

It was not nearly as extravagant as a royal wedding, nor was it meant to be.

Paul had made that clear from the beginning.

This was a Crimson Family ceremony, simple by the standards of the outside world, but deeply meaningful to the clan itself.

Elion stood near the centre of the hall, dressed in considerably finer clothing than what he had worn during the feast.

He had been forced to change after Terressa had taken one look at his clothes and declared that there was no way her daughter was getting married to someone who looked like he had just walked out of a training hall.

Elion had protested.

He had lost.

Now he wore a dark formal coat with subtle crimson embroidery along the sleeves, black trousers, and polished boots.

He looked down at himself.

"Honestly, this isn’t bad."

Mira, standing nearby, smiled.

"You finally look presentable."

"I always look presentable."

"That is not what you were wearing earlier, is it?"

"Details, details, my dear."

Mira rolled her eyes.

A soft melody began to play, and Elion’s attention was drawn to the entrance.

Tessa appeared, and for a moment, the entire hall seemed to quiet.

She was dressed in a ceremonial crimson dress that differed greatly from her usual academy attire.

The fabric hugged her athletic figure without being excessively revealing, while golden embroidery traced intricate patterns along the edges.

Her long red hair had been carefully brushed and tied back with several decorative ornaments, leaving a few loose strands framing her face.

Her normally confident expression was nowhere to be found. Instead, she looked very nervous.
