There was no point arguing with him once he became like this. His father was blinded by his pride as a duke, as usual.

To Cain, backing down wasn’t simply a practical decision.

It was an admission of defeat, and the man simply didn’t know how to take a loss.

Xavier glanced toward Liora.

She remained silent, her expression impossible to read.

Honestly... Xavier sighed inwardly. It would be better for Father to give up.

There was simply no convincing him when he got like this.

And now that Elion had the backing of the Vampire Kingdom, forcing the matter would only make things worse.

But Cain Dawncrest had never been particularly good at accepting that he had lost control of a situation.

Xavier decided to address another matter.

"I’m assuming Liora won’t be returning to the academy with me, then?"

He glanced toward her.

"The return date has already passed, but since we won’t be having classes for the remainder of the year, being late shouldn’t be an issue."

Liora nodded calmly.

"That is correct."

Xavier frowned slightly.

"How long will she be staying here?"

Cain folded his arms.

"Until this matter is settled."

"Alright." Xavier turned toward the doorway, intending to leave.

"Do tell me, Xavier, where is your brother?" Cain’s voice stopped him just before he reached the door.

"He has long since returned to the academy. Was he supposed to be here as well?"

"No." Cain waved a dismissive hand. "It’s good that he isn’t here. That stupid boy might say the wrong things and mess this up. If he’s not here, then that’s for the best."

Xavier almost laughed.

He quickly suppressed it, however, knowing his father would only take offense.

The one who started this entire mess is being excluded from it? How ironic.

Xavier could only hope that he wouldn’t become involved in this matter any more than he already was, which, thankfully, wasn’t much.

As far as he could see, things were not going to end well. The moment his father had acted in Grimholt, everything had changed.

And then came the summons from the royal court.

That was when the situation had truly begun to crumble.

He had no intention of being dragged any deeper into this hole.

Whatever happened next, he would simply have to make sure he wasn’t standing directly beneath the falling pieces when everything finally came crashing down.

The Ark’s voice echoed through the training room just as Elion sent Tessa flying with a yelp for what had to be the tenth time.

Elion sheathed Kurogoroshi, the sword humming pleasantly as he walked over to help Tessa back to her feet.

"You doing okay there, Tess?" he asked, offering her his hand.

"Tatatatat..." Tessa grimaced as she deactivated her gauntlets’ war form.

Crimson and green lines shimmered across the metallic weapons as the material folded back into the bracers around her forearms.

She took Elion’s hand with a sigh and pulled herself upright.

"Do you enjoy beating women or something?"

She rubbed her aching shoulder.

"Maybe I should report you for domestic abuse to the labour association."

"Hey now, you were the one who asked me to fight a bit more seriously."

Tessa laughed.

"Fair enough." She then leaned back against his chest, resting her head against his shoulder.

Elion’s arms naturally wrapped around her waist.

Tessa was covered in bruises, and her breathing remained slightly ragged from their prolonged spar.

Even so, there was a satisfied smile on her face.

"And I have never heard of this labour association. Did you just make that up?"

"Hehe." Tessa’s shoulders shook with barely contained laughter. "Maybe."

"You little..."

Elion brought his hands up from her waist to her chest, cupping her breasts in his hands, squeezing the soft mounds with his fingers through the thin fabric of her tank top.

A couple of his fingers slipped through the strap of her top and slid into the top, feeling up the warm skin of her breasts. Tessa could only bite her lip as her nipples slowly hardened into two peaks beneath his palms.

"Maybe I should report you for sexual abuse too."

A grin slowly spread across Elion’s face as he squeezed harder...

"That’s a rather serious accusation."

"Mmmmmmhmmm.... Well, you did just move your hands somewhere they weren’t supposed to be."

She tilted her head back and pursed her lips for a kiss. Elion leaned down and pressed the lips together in a warm kiss.

Tessa soon felt his soft tongue prying her teeth open, invading her mouth and engaging her own tongue in a fierce but messy battle.

"Ahhh...." Elion pulled back a moment later with a steamy exhale, a thin line of saliva connecting their glistening tongues.

Though he didn’t stop fondling her breast, springing them up and down even as he squeezed and stretched the mounds as he pleased.

"Are you just going to pretend you didn’t hear the Ark’s arrival announcement?" Tessa asked with a knowing smile.

"Why should I hurry when I’m attending to my woman?" Elion replied. "Everything else can wait, no?"

"Hmmmm..." Tessa hummed thoughtfully. "If anything, you sure know how to treat a woman."

Elion laughed.

"I have so many women; of course I should treat you all well. Otherwise, I’ll get bullied for the rest of my life."

"Haha. At least you know your place." The door to the training room hissed open at that exact moment.

Mira stood on the other side, one eyebrow raised as she looked between the two of them with a teasing smile.

"Look at them. They’re completely smitten with each other." Her teasing smile widened. "You’d think he had forgotten he has other women to take care of."

Tessa pulled herself out of Elion’s grip, her breasts dropping down into place with an elastic jiggle.

"We were just training."

"Of course you were."

Elion coughed into his fist.

"We ’were’ training."

"Uh-huh." Mira stepped into the room, shaking her head with an amused smile. "Well, your timing is inconvenient. Everyone else is waiting."
