Harem System: Spending Money On Women For 100% Rebate!
Chapter 376 - 376: Marcus. [FIXED!]Jane asked her supervisor for permission to leave early, her heart already pounding with anxiety. This wasn't the lady who'd actually employed her, the owner rarely came into work herself, preferring to let the business run while she enjoyed the fruits of her success. Instead, it was one of the higher-ups entrusted to manage the place in her absence, and this particular supervisor was notoriously strict when it came to certain things. Punctuality. Dedication. Following protocol to the letter.
Jane knocked at his office door. No answer at first, which only made her more nervous. Her palms were already sweating.
She knocked again, softer this time, having no intention of agitating him.
"Come in!" The man's voice barked through the door like whoever was knocking had just interrupted something extremely important.
Jane gulped, bracing herself. She pushed open the door and stepped inside.
The man before her was flamboyant in every sense of the word. Mid-thirties, impeccably dressed in a tailored vest over a colorful shirt, his hair styled with more product than Jane used in a month. One could guess his sexuality with a single glance—the way he sat, the accessories, the entire aesthetic screamed pride and confidence.
"Jane, sweetheart, do you need something?" Even the way he spoke had a somewhat feminine lilt to it, his words carefully enunciated and dramatic.
But he also looked incredibly sweet, his face kind despite the sharp fashion sense. So why was Jane so nervous?
Because this man, Marcus Delancey, took his job like his life depended on it. There was absolutely no slacking off under his watch. Every task had to be completed perfectly, every deadline met without excuse. He ran the firm with military precision wrapped in designer clothing. And that dedication was exactly why Jane was anxious about this request.
Before Jane could even open her mouth, Marcus leaned back in his chair with an exasperated sigh.
"Before you spill whatever's on your mind, guess who just called me asking for time off?" Marcus asked, not waiting for an answer. "That new girl from accounting. Started three weeks ago and already wants a long weekend for some stomach ache."
Jane's eyes widened slightly.
"I just got off the phone with her. Fired her on the spot." Marcus scoffed, waving his hand dismissively. "Kids these days have absolutely no dedication! No work ethic! Do they think jobs just grow on trees?"
He was working himself up into a dramatic fury, his voice rising with each word. Jane instantly lost her train of thought, panic flooding her system.
Marcus had no idea why she was actually here. This was pure coincidence. But the timing couldn't have been worse.
Jane stammered, trying to find words that wouldn't get her immediately fired.
Marcus looked at her with a raised eyebrow, his expression shifting from annoyed to curious. "Jane, honey, I don't have all day. What did you need?"
Jane could feel her body overheating, her throat going dry. "I... I came to request some time off."
The silence that followed was deafening.
The way Marcus looked at her, the disappointment that flooded his features, made Jane want to sink through the floor and disappear.
"And I was just starting to like you," Marcus muttered under his breath, shaking his head like a parent discovering their favorite child had done something terrible.
Before the conversation could continue, a gentle knock sounded at the door. But the person didn't wait for permission before opening it.
Kyle stepped inside.
Jane's heart stopped. What was he doing? This could potentially cost her her job!
Marcus's head snapped toward the door, his expression immediately shifting to defensive suspicion. "Who are you?"
Kyle had already figured out that the chances of them letting Jane leave were close to zero. And Jane, bless her heart, wasn't nearly assertive enough to push for what she wanted. She'd been raised to be polite, to not make waves, to accept whatever crumbs authority figures decided to give her.
But Kyle? Kyle had no such limitations.
"Hello, I'm Kyle," he introduced himself smoothly, stepping fully into the office with the kind of confidence that made people instinctively respect him. He closed the door behind him.
Jane looked terrified, her eyes darting between Kyle and Marcus like she was watching a disaster unfold in slow motion.
"I want to take this one here on a trip to England," Kyle continued, gesturing casually toward Jane, "and I wondered if this was a possibility."
Marcus laughed. Actually laughed, the sound sharp and incredulous.
This had to be a joke from his point of view. Some random guy walking into his office, interrupting his workday, asking to take one of his interns on an international vacation like it was the most normal request in the world.
Kyle could see how terrified Jane was, her whole body tense like she was waiting for the axe to fall.
But all Kyle did was smile at her. Warm, reassuring, completely calm.
And her entire body relaxed, just slightly. Because that smile told her: I've got this. Trust me.
Kyle knew money ruled everything in this world. He could solve this problem with a single phone call, a wire transfer, enough cash to make Marcus's eyes roll back in his head. But he also knew Jane wouldn't like it if he just threw money around here, especially when she was trying to establish herself through her own competence and hard work.
She wanted to be valued for her skills, not just as an extension of Kyle's wealth.
So he needed to be smarter about this.
"I will become a lifetime customer," Kyle said, his tone shifting to something more business-oriented. "Jane has managed to convince me to buy from this store and refer my clients here. This would mean you'd never have to worry about not meeting a quota for the rest of your life. And I can only imagine how pleased your boss would be, considering Jane is technically under your supervision. Her recruitment would be your success."
Marcus's laugh stopped instantly. He looked left and right, actually checking the corners of the room like he was searching for hidden cameras.
"Is this some sort of jok—"
He couldn't even complete his sentence before Kyle brought out a black card from his wallet, holding it up casually between two fingers like it was nothing special.
The matte black surface caught the light. No credit limit. The kind of card most people never saw in their entire lives.
Marcus's eyes went wide. His whole demeanor shifted in real-time, from dismissive skepticism to focused attention.
"I would like to buy your most expensive clothing," Kyle continued smoothly. "I'm going to England after all. Need to look presentable. And I trust Jane's taste, so I'd like her input on what I purchase."
Jane felt her heart swell. He didn't insult them by just slapping money in their faces or offering bribes. Instead, he chose to actually buy clothes they'd need from her store, turning this into a legitimate business transaction that made everyone look good.
Marcus was smart enough to recognize an opportunity when it walked through his door wearing expensive casual wear and holding a black card.
"R-Right this way, sir!" Marcus was already standing, his tone completely transformed. Gone was the suspicious gatekeeper, replaced by an obsequious salesman who just realized he might make his entire year's commission in the next hour.
He rushed around his desk, nearly tripping over his own feet in his haste to accommodate this unexpected windfall.
"Jane, darling, why didn't you say you had such distinguished company?" Marcus shot her a look that was half reproach, half excitement. "Come, come, both of you. We have an entire private collection upstairs that I think would be absolutely perfect for international travel."
Kyle caught Jane's eye and winked. She had to physically bite her lip to keep from laughing.
"After you," Kyle said to Marcus, gesturing toward the door with exaggerated politeness.
Marcus practically floated out of his office, already pulling out his phone to probably call every other department and warn them that a very important customer had just arrived.
The moment Marcus was out of earshot, Jane grabbed Kyle's arm. "I can't believe you just did that," she whispered, her eyes shining with something between amusement and disbelief.
"Did what? I need clothes for England. Might as well buy them somewhere that employs my favorite person." Kyle shrugged like it was the most obvious thing in the world.
"You're impossible."
"And you love it."
Jane smiled, squeezing his arm. "Yeah. I really do."
They followed Marcus upstairs to the private collection, where Cassandra was already waiting, having been texted by Kyle to meet them there.
What followed was an hour of Marcus fawning over Kyle, pulling out suit after suit, casual wear, accessories, everything he could possibly think of to maximize this sale. Jane actually did help, her eye for style proving surprisingly good as she picked out combinations that genuinely looked incredible on Kyle.
By the time they were done, Kyle had purchased enough to fill three large garment bags and had spent an amount that made Marcus's hands literally shake with excitement as he processed the transaction.
"And Jane," Marcus said as they were preparing to leave, his entire attitude toward her completely transformed. "Take the rest of the week. Hell, take two weeks. You've more than earned it with this referral. Consider it paid vacation."
Jane's jaw dropped. "Really?"
"Absolutely! And when you get back, we're moving you to a real office. Can't have our top talent working in a converted storage room." Marcus beamed at her like she'd just won employee of the year.
Jane looked at Kyle, who was trying very hard not to look smug and failing completely.
"Thank you, Marcus," Jane said genuinely. "I really appreciate it."
"No, no, thank you, darling. And Mr. Kyle, please do remember us for all your future fashion needs. We would be honored to serve you."
Kyle shook his hand. "I'll keep you in mind."
They made their exit, the three of them loaded down with expensive purchases, stepping out onto the street where the late afternoon sun was starting to paint everything gold.
The moment they were out of sight of the building, Jane started laughing. Full, genuine, uncontrollable laughter that made her have to stop walking and lean against Kyle for support.
"What's so funny?" Cassandra asked, smiling at Jane's reaction.
"He just... with the card... and Marcus's face..." Jane couldn't even form complete sentences through her laughter. "I thought I was getting fired and instead I got two weeks paid vacation and an office!"
Kyle grinned. "Told you it would work out."
"You're ridiculous. And amazing. And I love you." The words slipped out before Jane could stop them.
The laughter died in her throat as she realized what she'd just said. Jane was saying these things casually now, without second guessing herself or overthinking the situation.
Kyle's expression softened. He set down the garment bags and pulled Jane close, right there on the sidewalk.
"I love you too," he said simply.
Cassandra watched them with pure warmth, not a trace of jealousy in her expression. Just genuine happiness for two people she cared about.
"Alright, you two," she said after giving them a moment. "Let's get this stuff to the car before Marcus comes running out to sell Kyle a yacht or something."
They laughed and gathered up the bags, heading toward where Kyle had parked.
England was looking more and more like it would be an incredible trip.
