Finally, Xie Huaizheng left looking thoroughly satisfied, while Su Zhaozhao watched him, utterly spent.
He had carried her to the bed and stroked her head. "Get some rest. Tomorrow, we’ll go take our ID photos. I heard there’s a studio downtown that does a great job. Of course, my Zhaozhao is so beautiful, you’ll look amazing no matter how they’re taken."
Su Zhaozhao looked at Xie Huaizheng, then pointed to her collarbone. "What am I going to do about these marks?"
"Wear a collared shirt. For the marriage certificate photos tomorrow, we really should dress a bit more formally anyway."
As he spoke, he gave her another kiss on the lips.
"I’m heading back now."
Su Zhaozhao watched Xie Huaizheng leave, then lay back down on the bed, completely drained of energy.
Tonight, even though she and Xie Huaizheng hadn’t gone all the way, things had still gotten incredibly wild.
’The way Xie Huaizheng looked like he wanted to devour her made me think that after we’re married, I’ll probably be aching all over... just like in the novels I’ve read.’
At the thought, Su Zhaozhao’s cheeks flushed red again.
She hugged the blanket and rolled around on her bed.
The next day, Su Zhaozhao woke up bright and early. She put on a face mask, did her makeup, and dressed in a white blouse and a long pink skirt.
It was a joyous day, after all, so it was only natural to dress for the occasion.
She applied light makeup, choosing an orange-red lipstick that made her complexion look even healthier.
After a moment of thought, she put her hair into a half-up style, using a curling iron to give the loose strands temporary waves.
Thick, cascading curls tumbled over her shoulders.
The girl in the mirror was exquisite from head to toe.
’Even though I’ve transmigrated into a book, this is still my first time getting married. Besides, I truly like Xie Huaizheng and want to treat this with the seriousness it deserves.’
After a while, a knock came from the door.
Su Zhaozhao went to open it and saw Xie Huaizheng standing in the doorway.
Xie Huaizheng was wearing a white shirt—the very one Su Zhaozhao had given him.
Every time he wore it, Su Zhaozhao felt he had a different aura than when he was in his military uniform.
His tall and erect figure truly did the outfit justice.
His heroic air was now tempered with a touch of refined elegance.
Xie Huaizheng’s gaze also fell upon Su Zhaozhao, and he paused for a moment.
Su Zhaozhao was as beautiful as ever today, but with an added touch of feminine allure.
Her large, flowing waves and exquisitely defined eyes and brows all exuded a mature, womanly charm.
She had shed some of her usual youthful innocence; her radiant beauty now held a bewitching charm.
"Zhaozhao, you look so beautiful today," Xie Huaizheng praised, his lips curling into a slight smile.
His gaze was scorching yet affectionate, making Su Zhaozhao feel a bit shy.
She couldn’t help but smile. "Did I not look good before?"
"You did, you always look good," Xie Huaizheng answered hurriedly.
"Let’s get going then." Su Zhaozhao linked her arm with Xie Huaizheng’s.
They got in the car, where Xie Huaizheng presented her with breakfast. "I knew you wouldn’t have eaten, and it’s a bit of a drive to the city. Have something to tide you over."
It was vegetable buns and soy milk.
Su Zhaozhao didn’t stand on ceremony and started eating right away.
"So, has Uncle Li given his approval?"
"Yes. They’ll probably want to talk to you this afternoon, but it’s just a formality, so don’t worry. Let’s get our photos taken today. Once we have the ID photos, we can register our marriage."
"So soon." Su Zhaozhao’s eyes widened in surprise. Everything was going so smoothly it felt almost unbelievable.
"Of course. The sooner, the better." Xie Huaizheng was practically bursting with impatience, wanting to get everything settled as quickly as possible.
’Unfortunately, it would probably take a day for the photos to be developed.’
"After we finish with the ID photos, we can go do some shopping. I’ve already applied for housing in the military family compound and have bought quite a few things, but I figured you’d want to pick some things out yourself."
Listening to Xie Huaizheng’s meticulous plans, Su Zhaozhao thought, ’He’s considered so much. I hadn’t thought nearly that far ahead; I was just focused on marrying him.’
But without her knowing, Xie Huaizheng had quietly taken care of so much.
As Su Zhaozhao sipped her soy milk and watched the scenery go by, she felt a wave of emotion. ’It seems Xie Huaizheng really, truly likes me.’
’A month ago, I wouldn’t have dared to even dream of this.’
But now, they were on the verge of getting married.
They arrived at a photo studio in the city. As soon as they entered, Xie Huaizheng told the proprietor they were there for marriage certificate photos.
The proprietor, camera in hand, instructed Su Zhaozhao and Xie Huaizheng to take their seats.
"Alright, you two, move a little closer. Smile, come on! This is a happy occasion, let’s not be so serious."
Su Zhaozhao beamed a radiant smile at the camera. A moment later, the flash went off, and the picture was taken.
After the ID photos were done, Xie Huaizheng told the proprietor they also wanted to take wedding photos.
The proprietor’s wife immediately led Su Zhaozhao over to the wardrobe to pick out a dress.
"Miss, these are all the wedding dresses you can choose from. See what style you like! This pink one is the most popular right now. A lot of young women have their pictures taken in it," the proprietor’s wife cheerily explained.
Su Zhaozhao looked at the pink wedding dress and was quite surprised.
’It’s so retro!’
’I’ve only ever seen dresses like this on those nostalgic, retro-themed blogs.’
’No, wait. For someone from my time, it was definitely retro, but for people in this era, this was the height of fashion.’
The dress was made of a particular shade of lustrous pink satin. It was princess-style, with a string of pearls around the neckline.
The sleeves were like puff sleeves, a voluminous design made of sheer fabric.
The skirt was very wide, and when paired with a pink veil, it did look quite beautiful.
"I’ll wear this one, then," Su Zhaozhao said to the proprietor’s wife, stroking the pink dress.
"Alrighty! Your hair is just perfect as it is. Do you need me to help you fix it up?"
"No, that’s okay."
Su Zhaozhao glanced at the sample wedding photos on the wall. The hairstyles were all small, tight waves, which was the most popular style at the moment, but Su Zhaozhao much preferred her own large, loose waves.
’After all, I spent a whole hour on them this morning.’
Meanwhile, Xie Huaizheng had chosen a black suit to change into.
Su Zhaozhao changed into the pink wedding dress and sat before the vanity mirror, letting the proprietor’s wife help pin up her hair.
Only two curly tendrils were left down on either side, with the rest of her hair swept up under the veil, revealing the delicate contours of her face and her long, slender neck.
’It really is very retro.’
Su Zhaozhao looked at the girl in the mirror, at her bright eyes and pearly teeth, at the sacred wedding dress that belonged to this era. ’In that instant, it was as if I could see my original self through the reflection of this girl.’
’This is my first marriage, and the first time I have ever truly fallen in love with a man.’
’Although I had initially approached Xie Huaizheng because he was the male lead and I wanted to escape the fate of a villainess, I had genuinely fallen for him along the way.’
’Transmigrating into a book had been a bewildering experience, but because of Xie Huaizheng, being here doesn’t feel so bad after all.’
’I don’t know what the future holds, but at this very moment, I sincerely want to spend a lifetime of happiness with Xie Huaizheng.’
When Xie Huaizheng came out after changing, the first thing he saw was Su Zhaozhao sitting before the vanity mirror.
