Xie Huaizheng had been about to scold Su Zhaozhao, but then he saw her pale face and pitiful expression.

Without a second thought, Xie Huaizheng pulled her directly onto his lap.

He scanned her from head to toe, only sighing in relief after making sure she was completely unharmed.

Su Zhaozhao took the chance to wrap her arms around Xie Huaizheng’s neck, nuzzling against it.

Her hair was soft, smooth, and fragrant.

’She’s really like a little kitten,’ Xie Huaizheng thought.

Su Zhaozhao told Xie Huaizheng everything that had happened that day, including how she had broken one of the man’s hands herself.

"To be honest, I was a little scared. But the moment I thought he might hurt Tian Tian and her little brother, I just couldn’t stand it."

"So, you took it upon yourself to injure him?" Xie Huaizheng narrowed his eyes at Su Zhaozhao, his voice dropping several shades.

Su Zhaozhao immediately looked up at Xie Huaizheng. His expression was cold and stern, and his jet-black eyes held no warmth.

Seeing him like this, Su Zhaozhao knew he was angry.

’Of course. Hitting someone is wrong. Is that why he’s angry?’

’Even after I explained, he’s still not listening to me?’

"But it was self-defense! We took them to the police station, and the officers didn’t say I was wrong. They even said those guys had been brought in a few times before."

Despite Su Zhaozhao’s explanation, Xie Huaizheng’s expression remained cold. Then, he reached out and pinched her cheek.

He used a lot of force—it was almost a pinch.

Pain flared in Su Zhaozhao’s cheek, and involuntary tears welled up in her eyes.

"What are you doing? That hurts!" Su Zhaozhao struggled, trying to get off his lap.

’Oh my god, why is he like this when he’s angry? He actually pinched my cheek! It really hurt.’

"If I don’t do this, will you ever learn your lesson?" Xie Huaizheng sneered at Su Zhaozhao, his arm tightening around her waist to stop her from leaving.

"Su Zhaozhao, stop acting like you’re some kind of savior. Their business has nothing to do with you. Can you please stop sticking your neck out for everyone?"

Xie Huaizheng said in a cold voice.

’This girl... does she have any idea? What if those men had weapons? What if they were desperate and vicious? What if they had accomplices nearby?’

’Wouldn’t she have been in terrible danger?’

The mere thought sent a shiver of fear down Xie Huaizheng’s spine.

He was thankful she was standing before him, safe and sound. But even so, knowing what she had gone through today, he couldn’t calm his raging emotions.

This was more terrifying than any of his most dangerous missions.

Su Zhaozhao saw the profound worry in Xie Huaizheng’s eyes and realized he wasn’t angry because she had done something wrong, but because he was terrified she had been in danger.

It wasn’t about her being wrong. She had completely misunderstood him.

’Right. He’s always so anxious about me. Whenever I go out, he worries so much he won’t sleep until I’m back.’

"Alright, don’t be angry anymore. I only acted after I assessed the situation. I don’t normally try to play the hero, you know."

Xie Huaizheng sneered. "Yeah, right."

’He’s still so mad.’

Su Zhaozhao wasn’t sure how to placate him. After a moment’s thought, she leaned in and planted a kiss on his cheek.

SMOOCH—

Xie Huaizheng felt the girl’s sweet scent and her soft, moist kiss. He froze for a second.

’So, she sees I’m angry and decides to use her charms to get me to stop?’

’This girl...’

But he had to admit, Su Zhaozhao’s tactic was quite effective.

At least, he didn’t feel as angry anymore.

Su Zhaozhao could feel his tense mood lightening, and she couldn’t help but smile. "Alright, honey, don’t be angry anymore."

As she spoke, Su Zhaozhao kissed Xie Huaizheng again.

This time, she kissed him on the lips.

She even teased him a little.

How could Xie Huaizheng possibly resist Su Zhaozhao’s advances?

He felt every muscle in his body instantly tense up.

Then, he cupped the back of her head with one hand, deepening the kiss.

Su Zhaozhao felt the man’s sudden, fierce passion, as intense as a raging storm.

She was a little overwhelmed.

’I never expected that when Xie Huaizheng gets angry, even his kisses would be this intense.’

Su Zhaozhao was actually a little scared and wanted to pull back, but the man held her fast, making it impossible to move.

Finally, Xie Huaizheng released her.

Su Zhaozhao slumped against his rock-hard chest, panting for breath.

Xie Huaizheng wiped her lips, clearing away the moisture, and said in a low voice, "Trying to cheer me up like this?"

"So, are you not angry anymore?"

Xie Huaizheng shook his head. "No."

Seeing the man’s cold expression, Su Zhaozhao was suddenly at a loss.

’I’ve already done so much, and he’s still not over it. What on earth do I have to do to make him stop being angry?’

As if reading her mind, Xie Huaizheng swept her up into his arms and carried her back to the bedroom.

He tossed her onto the soft bed.

Su Zhaozhao quickly said, "No, it’s the middle of the day! Don’t mess around. Don’t you have training later?"

Xie Huaizheng stared at her with a wry smile. "What are you thinking? I just want you to take a nap with me. Just a simple nap."

Su Zhaozhao was speechless.

’Could it be that I’m the one with the dirty mind?’

’Xie Huaizheng didn’t even do anything, and my thoughts immediately went there.’

’Oh my god!’

Su Zhaozhao couldn’t help but cover her face.

Seeing her reaction, Xie Huaizheng chuckled softly. "I’m not letting you off the hook for this, Zhaozhao. I’ve told you so many times how much I worry about your safety, but you never seem to take what I say seriously."

As he finished, his voice grew heavy.

Su Zhaozhao was suddenly filled with guilt.

It was true. Xie Huaizheng was always worrying about her, and she always gave him reason to.

Su Zhaozhao felt terrible about it.

Xie Huaizheng lay down beside her, and Su Zhaozhao immediately snuggled up to him, burying her face in his chest.

Listening to the strong, steady beat of his heart, she said to Xie Huaizheng, "I’m sorry. I was really wrong."

Seeing the girl’s dejected and sad expression, Xie Huaizheng couldn’t bring himself to stay angry any longer.

’What was the point of holding it against her?’

He just wanted her to learn her lesson.

"Mm. Don’t let it happen again. As long as you’re not hurt, that’s all that matters." Xie Huaizheng kissed Su Zhaozhao’s forehead.

"From now on, if you run into any trouble, call me to handle it. Don’t try to take matters into your own hands. I know you were scared."

Hearing this, Su Zhaozhao immediately looked up at Xie Huaizheng.

The man’s jet-black eyes gazed at her, as if they could see right through to her soul.
