The next day, when Su Zhaozhao went to the Li family home, Li Weichuan was even waiting for her downstairs.

The way he looked at her was completely different from before.

"Sister Zhaozhao, that book of math problems you gave me was really interesting. Do you have any others?"

Li Tiantian chimed in, "Zhaozhao, what kind of math problems did you give this kid? It’s like some kind of magic potion. He’s become so different I barely recognize him. He’s been waiting here for you for a long time."

It was actually the first time she had seen Li Weichuan willing to talk to someone else on his own initiative.

He had resisted therapy before, chasing away any psychologist who came to see him.

His attitude toward his family was cold and distant, too.

Other than for meals, he’d basically lock himself in his room and do practice problems.

She never imagined Su Zhaozhao could win over Li Weichuan with a single workbook.

When she saw Li Weichuan say he was going to wait for Su Zhaozhao to arrive today, it felt as if the sun had risen in the west.

Su Zhaozhao smiled. "That means we’re on the right track."

She looked at Li Weichuan. The young man’s eyes were no longer as placid and emotionless as they had been.

A brilliant light was sparkling in his eyes.

’Just as I thought,’ she mused. ’Catering to his interests really is effective.’

"Well, I’ll have to search hard for more. It took me a lot of effort to hunt down the one you have."

In reality, it was simple, but she deliberately made the process of obtaining them sound more arduous.

This way, Li Weichuan would also recognize the effort others were making on his behalf. It was a method to encourage him to externalize his emotions. Showing concern for and acknowledging the people around him was another way to speed up his recovery.

"Sister Zhaozhao, I know it’s a lot to ask, but I’d love more problems. These are really challenging—much more fun and interesting than the ones I used to drill."

"Okay, I’ll look for some in the next few days. But, I have one condition for you."

Li Weichuan’s gaze fell on Su Zhaozhao. ’Of course. I knew she couldn’t be this nice to me for no reason.’

"Go ahead. What’s the condition?"

’As long as it isn’t impossible,’ he thought, ’I should be able to satisfy her demand.’

"For the foreseeable future, you need to spend an hour downstairs every day. And you have to chat with your sister. You can talk about anything you want, but it has to be for at least half an hour."

Li Weichuan froze when he heard Su Zhaozhao’s proposal.

Li Tiantian was dumbfounded, too.

"Zhaozhao, that’s impossible. Wei Chuan can’t do that. We barely exchange ten sentences a day."

Sometimes they didn’t even say two sentences to each other all day.

Li Tiantian didn’t push Li Weichuan. She had seen him when he was emotionally unstable, so she figured that as long as he could remain calm, it was fine even if he was silent.

"How will you know if you don’t try?" Su Zhaozhao looked at Li Weichuan. "Can you do it?"

’Her request wasn’t that difficult,’ she thought. ’She wasn’t asking him to talk to a stranger—Li Tiantian was his sister.’

’Chatting with his own sister for half an hour should be fine, right?’

Upon hearing this, Li Weichuan pressed his thin lips together. His brow furrowed as he appeared to be in deep thought.

He seemed to be weighing whether or not to agree to Su Zhaozhao’s condition.

’Su Zhaozhao knew he was ill. A request that would be perfectly normal for most people was a bit of a challenge for him.’

"If you don’t want to talk to your sister, your parents are also an option. Pick one," Su Zhaozhao said to Li Weichuan.

Li Weichuan finally said, "I’ll agree. Is this part of the treatment? But I’m telling you, it’s not going to help me at all."

’There he goes again.’

Li Tiantian immediately cut him off. "Don’t say that, Wei Chuan. Hasn’t Zhaozhao been good to you? She’s not like those other therapists."

"That’s right. You don’t have to feel so much pressure. I’m not a professional," Su Zhaozhao said, smiling at Li Weichuan.

’Of course, if anyone who actually knew her heard her say that, they would probably scorn her.’

’If she wasn’t considered a professional, then you’d be hard-pressed to find more than a handful of people in the country who were.’

Li Weichuan watched the girl’s sweet smile and couldn’t help but furrow his brow.

’Not a professional?’

’She didn’t seem as innocent and sweet as she acted.’

’Still, since she was offering him something good, he might as well take it.’

’In any case, Su Zhaozhao would eventually have to admit defeat.’

Over the next few days, Su Zhaozhao began preparing the workbooks she planned to give Li Weichuan.

She needed to find ones with a minimalist, black-and-white design and layout, then compile them into individual books for him.

At the very least, there were enough math problems to keep him busy until the end of summer vacation. It was something to occupy his time, anyway.

Su Zhaozhao didn’t just find math problems for Li Weichuan; she also found a few physics problem books.

The last time she was in his study, she had noticed several physics books on his shelves.

’This meant Li Weichuan probably liked physics, too.’

When she gave the physics workbooks to him as well, his usual all-knowing expression was tinged with a hint of surprise.

"I know you like physics, too. Give these a try."

"Why are you being so nice to me?" Li Weichuan asked as he took the books, his brow furrowing as he looked at them.

"You call this nice? Just you wait, I’ll show you what ’nice’ really is," Su Zhaozhao said with a grin, giving him a little wave. "I won’t be around for a bit, so remember your promise. Tian Tian will be your supervisor. I’m sure you wouldn’t stoop to breaking your word, right?"

"Who would break their promise?!" Li Weichuan retorted coldly, apparently angered by the suggestion that he was untrustworthy.

’What a kid.’

Su Zhaozhao couldn’t help but smile. Li Weichuan seemed so cold and serious, but he got worked up the moment you provoked him even slightly.

The expression he showed was always one of displeasure.

But Su Zhaozhao found it all incredibly amusing.

Su Zhaozhao then turned to Li Tiantian. "Tian Tian, you keep a close eye on him, you hear? If he’s short even one minute, write it down in your little notebook and tell me!"

"Okay, I’ll be sure to do that." Li Tiantian knew Su Zhaozhao just wanted Li Weichuan to talk more and have more contact with the outside world, so she would follow her instructions to the letter.

That set Su Zhaozhao’s mind at ease.

"You too, Zhaozhao. Be careful out there."

"Don’t worry, I will."

She was taking the train back by herself. Although Xie Huaizheng was also taking a train, military regulations required all soldiers to travel in the same car.

Which meant she had to travel on her own.

Once she arrived, Su Zhaozhao wouldn’t be able to meet up with Xie Huaizheng right away either; she had to go to her maternal grandparents’ place first.

Xie Huaizheng couldn’t help but worry. "Don’t worry, I’ll come and keep you company. I’ll head back when it’s time for bed."
