Once the boardroom finally emptied out, Xinyuan walked over to the head of the table. He reached down, grabbing the sides of Wenzhi’s chair, and smoothly spun it around so they were facing each other entirely.
"Are you going to eat?" Xinyuan asked carefully, peering down at him.
Wenzhi stared up into his dark eyes, a small, knowing smirk playing on his lips. "I didn’t actually mean food when I said that, but I guess the others took it literally."
Xinyuan chuckled softly, the low rumble vibrating in his chest. His hands tightened on the edges of the chair as he immediately leaned down, closing the distance between them. Wenzhi didn’t hesitate; he moved forward, capturing Xinyuan’s lips in a deep, slow, and consuming kiss that had him releasing a soft, satisfied sigh.
When Wenzhi finally leaned back just an inch, his grey eyes were dark with focus. "We are going to start our own personal part of the assassination campaign today,"
Xinyuan’s eyes widened slightly, his grip on the chair tightening. "What?"
"I have a hit list," Wenzhi explained. "Though only one name has been successfully cleared from it so far is Shen Jue. Next, I need to track down Wei Kang of Halo."
"Is that all?" Xinyuan asked.
He looked intensely interested, but his lips were still hovering just an inch from Wenzhi’s, his thoughts clearly drifting as he began to gently caress his nose against Wenzhi’s. He pressed a soft kiss to his cheek, the tip of his tongue tracing a slow line up to Wenzhi’s ear.
"You..." Wenzhi’s eyes drifted shut, a soft shiver running through him at the sensation. "You are also part of my list."
Xinyuan immediately bit down on his earlobe, a sharp, playful nip that made Wenzhi’s hand instantly fist into the back of the Esper’s hair.
He yanked back slightly, dragging a deep, ragged hiss from Xinyuan’s lips as the pressure forced him to release the soft skin of Wenzhi’s ear.
"Was it back when you hated me?" Xinyuan breathed, a cocky, self-satisfied smile playing on his lips.
Wenzhi slowly released the tight grip on his dark hair, scoffing. "Who says I still don’t hate you?"
Xinyuan actually rolled his eyes at the blatant lie. He leaned back, standing upright for a brief second before pulling the chair next to Wenzhi’s over.
He spun it around, sitting down and rolling it forward until he was parked directly in front of Wenzhi, their knees brushing. "So what are you going to do then? Kill me off?"
"That would be interesting, actually... I mean, I have tried to kill you before," Wenzhi murmured, a genuinely thoughtful, reminiscent expression settling onto his face.
"You stabbed me, you poisoned me... I think you shot me once, too, but I don’t entirely remember the details..." Xinyuan rubbed his chin.
Wenzhi scoffed loudly, highly amused. "Why the hell are you reminiscing about it like it happened years ago and not just a few months back?"
"It honestly feels like years," Xinyuan admitted, his expression softening as he looked back at Wenzhi, as if he were only just realizing how wildly fast their lives had shifted in such a short span of time.
It really did feel like an eternity had passed.
Wenzhi leaned in, his tone dropping into something a bit quieter. "Well, you shouldn’t worry. The list has actually grown a lot longer now, and you aren’t on the kill list anymore."
Xinyuan’s eyebrows shot up, his entire posture lighting up with interest. "What list am I on, then?"
Wenzhi just offered a secretive smile and stayed dead silent. Slowly, Xinyuan’s initial excitement began to fade into impatience. "What is it? Tell me."
"No. I do not think it is a good idea for you to know."
Xinyuan dramatically kicked his feet against the floor, spinning his chair completely away from Wenzhi so his back was turned to him.
Wenzhi let out a quiet chuckle. "What are you doing?"
"I am not looking at you until you tell me," Xinyuan stated flatly, his shoulders rigid.
Wenzhi scoffed, leaning forward in his own seat. "You cannot be serious right now."
Silence. Xinyuan didn’t move an inch.
Wenzhi tried again, his tone softening. "Xinyuan?"
The Esper completely ignored him. Wenzhi’s face fell. "You are not speaking to me either?"
Still, no reply.
Wenzhi let out a heavy sigh, but the fond smile on his face betrayed him. He rose to his feet, walking the short distance to stand directly in front of Xinyuan’s turned chair.
Without a single word of warning, he climbed straight onto his lap, straddling his thighs and wrapping his arms securely around his Esper’s neck.
Xinyuan’s hands immediately caught Wenzhi by the waist to hold him steady, his back straightening as a sudden, deep flush rushed all the way to the tips of his ears.
Wenzhi found him completely adorable like this. He reached up, idly playing with the dark strands of hair at the nape of Xinyuan’s neck.
Xinyuan cleared his throat, trying to maintain his tough stance despite his blushing skin. "Are you going to tell me?"
"You are not on the kill list anymore," Wenzhi murmured, a sudden wave of genuine embarrassment washing over him at his own honesty. He cleared his throat, looking away. "You are on the special loved one list."
Xinyuan looked completely ecstatic, the joy breaking across his face so violently it was almost blinding. "Loved one?"
"Mmh," Wenzhi nodded, refusing to meet his eyes directly.
"You love me?" Xinyuan was clearly trying to bait him into actually saying the words out loud.
But Wenzhi reached down and flatly covered Xinyuan’s eyes with his palm. Those lovesick, warm brown eyes were entirely too bright, fueled by a raw excitement and a handsome, dark flush that was just entirely too much for Wenzhi to handle.
"I didn’t say that," he whispered defensively.
"But I can feel it through the bond... it feels.... euphoric..." Xinyuan whispered back, a deeply smitten, breathless smile playing on his lips even with his vision blocked.
Wenzhi’s gaze softened. He gave him a deeply curious look, slowly sliding his hand down from Xinyuan’s eyes, letting his fingers trail against the smooth skin of his cheek. "Euphoric?"
Xinyuan raised his own hand, his large palm carefully framing Wenzhi’s face, his thumb caressing his cheekbone. Wenzhi subconsciously leaned his weight into the warmth of the gesture, completely relaxing against him.
"Yes..." Xinyuan breathed, his dark eyes fixed entirely on Wenzhi’s mouth. "Euphoric."
Wenzhi’s eyes brightened with a sudden, wicked spark of mischief. He leaned down, his breath brushing Xinyuan’s lips, "Will it feel more euphoric if I fuck you right against that table?"
Xinyuan’s eyes darkened instantly, the tender warmth burning away into a heavy, predatory hunger in a second. His grip on Wenzhi’s waist tightened until it was bruising. "Yes. So much...."
Wenzhi immediately burst out laughing. But he cut his own amusement short by leaning down and pressing his lips hard against Xinyuan’s, dragging them both under into a breathtaking, dizzying kiss that left the world completely behind.
