Alana: [Female.]
She then asked deliberately.
Alana: [ Is there any woman in your room?]
Stephan: [No, it’s just me. I’m staying pure and chaste for my dear wife at all times.]
Alana couldn’t help but chuckle.
Carla glanced at her with a sweet smile, Alana looked as if she’d just tasted honey, it was truly enviable.
“Lana, you’re smiling so happily at your phone, is that your boyfriend?”
Alana nodded. “Yeah.”
“He left on a business trip this morning. He just arrived at the hotel and is updating me on his daily routine.”
Carla chuckled, “That’s great. These days, there aren’t many men who take the initiative to check in with their girlfriends and keep them feeling secure all the time!”
Alana smiled, “Maybe so.”
Carla blinked curiously. “By the way, what does your boyfriend look like? Is he very handsome?”
Hearing this, Alana suddenly remembered the photo booth pictures she’d taken with him on that date.
She pulled out her phone, selected a proper photo from the collection of Polaroid-style snaps they’d taken that day, and handed it to Carla to look at.
Carla took one look and was instantly blown away.
“Wow, he’s so handsome! He looks even better than the male celebrities on TV!”
Alana smiled and said, “The camera didn’t do justice to him. I think he’s even more handsome in person than in photos.”
Carla’s eyes lit up. “Oh my gosh, Lana, you’ve really hit the jackpot. I’m so jealous! If Danielle found out, wouldn’t she be green with envy?”
After a brief pause, Carla’s expression suddenly turned mischievous. “Ahem, ahem, if I may ask, is he... you know... good in bed?”
That was a bit out of line, wasn’t it?! So Alana quickly changed the topic.
All day long, Alana kept receiving messages from Stephan, who was proactively updating her. For example, he’d let her know where he was going, what he was doing, and who he was meeting with.
It gave her a deep sense of security.
Plus, seeing his messages allowed Alana to confirm he was doing okay, which put her mind at ease.
After work, she returned to Stephan’s house, took out her keys, inserted them into the lock, and prepared to open the door.
But unexpectedly, the door swung open from the inside.
Alana looked up and immediately saw Cynthia standing inside the doorway.
Their eyes met, and both saw the shock on each other’s faces.
Cynthia was stunned to see her. “It’s you?!”
She had come over secretly while her son was away on a business trip to check the place, hoping to find any signs that another woman had been living there.
But just as she had arrived, she heard a noise outside the door. She opened it to find...
Alana met Cynthia’s stunned gaze, and her mind went completely blank.
Oh my
God!
This was terrifying!
She’d come back to her boyfriend’s house and actually ran into his mother?!
What kind of terrifying showdown was this?!
Waaah, this is killing her...what on earth was she supposed to do?
Alana was panicking inside; she suddenly lost her ability to speak, stammering incoherently as her mind turned to mush.
“Dr. Cynthia? What a coincidence! I can’t believe I ran into you here...”
Oh my God, what did she just say?
Ran into you here?
This was her son’s house.
The real question was, why was she here in the first place?
Cynthia nodded. “It is a coincidence, but this is my son’s home. It’s perfectly normal
for me to be here. But you...Why are you here?”
She looked Alana up and down, her eyes widening as a terrifying suspicion began to form.
“You aren’t... my son’s...”
Alana gasped.
If she said the truth, would Stephan’s mom warmly accept her.
What should she do?
She wished Stephan was here but he wasn’t.
Who was going to save her now?!
Cynthia spoke up, “You aren’t, by any chance, the cleaning lady my son hired, are you?”
Alana blinked.
No way...she’d been on pins and needles, and Stephan’s mother had only guessed she was a cleaning lady?!
Cynthia certainly wouldn’t consider of her as her son’s girlfriend.
Because, as far as she knew, Alana was a woman with a boyfriend who she had cursed out at the hospital.
And that boyfriend, naturally, had nothing to do with her son.
If they really were involved, they wouldn’t have been so distant with each other that day at the hospital.
Alana’s tense heart suddenly relaxed.
She couldn’t help but laugh out loud...a laugh that was both awkward and embarrassed.
“Hehe, Dr. Cynthia, you guessed right, I’m the cleaner.”
Cynthia was pleasantly surprised. “Oh my, I never would have thought my son would hire you as a cleaner. When did you start working as my son’s housekeeper? Was it a few months ago, before my son examined you, that he hired you? If that’s the case, it explains why my son examined you...so you two knew each other?”
“Not very...well...” Alana drawled.
Convinced she’d figured out the relationship, Cynthia warmly invited Alana in.
“Come on in! Let’s talk inside!”
“Thank you!”
Alana desperately wanted to escape, but right now she was even more curious to know why Cynthia was here.
Could it be that she was trying to expose her?
And if she did expose her, how would Cynthia treat her then?
Wouldn’t she immediately order her to break up with Stephan and then kick her out of his house?!
Oh God!
Just thinking about it was terrifying!
Alana’s mind was racing with anxiety; she felt as if she were standing on the edge of a precipice.
“Well then, Dr. Cynthia, I’ll take you up on
that.”
Cynthia smiled warmly, looking very kind and approachable. “Don’t be shy...just make yourself at home. By the way, I have something I’d like to ask you!”
“Huh?!”
What was it?!
Don’t say it like that...it was making her so nervous.
Cynthia led Alana straight to the sofa and sat her down.
She asked casually, “Um, what’s your name again?”
Alana was incredibly tense, mustering all her composure to respond.
“Alana Martin.”
Cynthia nodded. “Oh, Lana. Sorry about that...I’m getting on in years, and with so much on my plate, I tend to forget things.”
Alana managed a polite smile.
In reality, she was panicking inside.
Cynthia asked, “Oh, by the way, you’ve been working for my son for quite a while, haven’t you?”
Alana kept up her smile, trying hard not to let it slip, “Yeah, quite a while now.”
Cynthia clapped her hands excitedly. “That’s wonderful! Then you must know a lot about my son!”
Alana swallowed.
She was in big trouble!
Stephan, please end your business trip...come back right now!
I need you!
But her inner cries were destined to go unheard by the man far away.
Cynthia spoke with a smile, “Alana, tell me...has my son been bringing women home lately?”
Oh no, the very first question was already so hard to answer.
If she admitted that Stephan had brought a woman home, would Cynthia think she was a loose woman...someone who moved in with Stephan right after they started dating?
But if she didn’t admit it, how could she break out of this deadlock?
Never mind, she’d just have to take it one step at a time!
Alana took a deep breath and spoke very carefully, “I’m sorry, Dr Cynthia, I’m not really sure. Every time I come over, I just tidy up the house and then leave.”
