Help! My One-Night Stand Is Examining Me?!
Chapter 258 This girlfriend of his“I hardly run into Stephan...no, Mr Hudson...when I come here, so I really don’t know.”
Cynthia looked at her skeptically. “Is that so? But I think my son must have brought a woman home. Just look at that shoe rack...there’s a pair of pink slippers. Those are clearly meant for a woman!”
“If he wasn’t bringing women home, would he have women’s shoes ready at home?”
Alana’s breath caught, and her nerves instantly tensed.
She clenched her teeth. “Those... slippers are mine.”
Cynthia was taken aback. “Huh? They’re yours?”
“Yes, I bought them myself. Every time I come over to clean the house, I put them on before I start working.”
Cynthia nodded, satisfied that the mystery was solved. “Oh, I see.”
But then she changed the subject. “But I found women’s clothes in my son’s room! How do you explain those women’s clothes?”
“What?!”
Wait, Cynthia actually went into Stephan’s room too?!
Oh God!
How... how am I supposed to explain this?!
You blockhead, think fast!
“Well...” Alana fidgeted, torn between her thoughts. “Dr Cynthia, there’s something I’m not sure if I should say.”
Cynthia was so curious. “What is it?”
Alana’s face flushed crimson as she stammered, “Well, there was this one time... I came to clean for Mr Hudson, and I found... I found...”
Cynthia couldn’t help but press her, “What did you find?!”
Alana closed her eyes and instantly gave up resisting. “I found him wearing a woman’s skirt, dancing ballet in his room.”
Cynthia’s eyes widened.
Cynthia was stunned. What...what the hell!
Her son...her strong, masculine son who always looked so manly!
Was actually secretly wearing a woman’s skirt and dancing ballet in his room?!
The image was too jarring...she couldn’t even bear to think about it!
Cynthia felt her vision go dark; she almost fainted.
No way, no way?!
Her son...could it be... that he’s never been into women?
Could this girlfriend she suspected he has... actually be a guy?!
If he were a man, that would perfectly explain why he never had a girlfriend and why he never brought one home to introduce to his mother.
The reason had been confirmed.
Her son was gay!
He likes men!
Cynthia looked utterly devastated. “Alana, thank you for telling me all this. I think I understand now.”
Alana blinked. “Huh?!”
Wait, what exactly did the older woman understand?
Cynthia fought back her pain. “All right. Thank you for taking care of my son’s house. I think I need to go now.”
If she stayed any longer, she feared she might break down.
Alana asked with concern, “Mo...no, Dr. Cynthia...are you all right?”
“I’m fine...I’m fine.”
Cynthia waved her hand, then stood up, walking somewhat unsteadily.
Alana was concerned and couldn’t help but grab Cynthia’s arm. “Dr. Cynthia, you don’t look quite right. Why don’t I drive you home?”
Cynthia waved her hand again. “No, it’s okay. I’ll have the driver come pick me up.”
With that, she pulled out her phone and made a call.
“Right now...immediately...come to my son’s house and take me home!”
After hanging up, she said to Alana, “Go back to work. I won’t disturb you any longer.”
Alana bit her lip. “Dr. Cynthia...”
Cynthia insisted, “Just focus on your work. Don’t worry about me...I can get home on my own. I’m this old...I’ve seen it all. It’s no big deal. Nothing is a big deal!”
“Oh, all right...” Unable to persuade her to stay, Alana slowly let go of Stephan’s hand.
However, she only felt a little more at ease after watching Cynthia walk out of the apartment and get into the car that had come to pick her up.
But she wasn’t completely at ease.
She thought it over carefully. What exactly had she said wrong?
To cause her future mother-in-law’s mood to shift so drastically all at once?
Was it just because she’d mentioned that Stephan wore women’s skirts and danced ballet in his room?!
So, could Dr. Cynthia have misunderstood and thought Stephan had some kind of mental health issue?
No, she had to tell Stephan about this immediately.
Alana decisively pulled out her phone and dialed his number.
Stephan had just wrapped up his day’s schedule and was riding back to the hotel.
When he received Alana’s call, the corners of his mouth couldn’t help but turn up, and he answered immediately, “Sweetheart, what’s up?”
Vance, the driver and assistant sitting up front, heard the term “sweetheart” and got goosebumps from the shock.
Even more outrageous was that Stephan had deliberately put the call on speakerphone.
Of course, if he’d known what Alana was about to say, he certainly wouldn’t have taken it upon himself to put the call on speakerphone.
Alana sounded frantic on the other end.
“Stephan, it’s a disaster! I’ve done something really stupid!”
Stephan found it amusing; judging by her frantic tone, he could tell just how tensed the woman on the other end of the line was.
“What stupid thing did you do that ruined your mood?”
“Well, it’s just...”
“Don’t worry, just tell me slowly. I’m listening.”
“Your mom just showed up!”
“Huh?”
Stephan raised an eyebrow. “My mom came by the house again?”
Alana nodded, her face creased with worry. “Yes, and she spotted me!”
Stephan’s eyes lit up. “What? Did she figure out you’re my girlfriend?”
Alana shook her head. “No, she didn’t realize I’m your girlfriend. She thinks I’m a cleaning lady you hired.”
Stephan scoffed.
Unbelievable!
Absolutely ridiculous!
That was fucking ridiculous!
He gave a half-smile. “Why didn’t you deny it? Why didn’t you just admit you’re my girlfriend?”
Alana nearly lost her temper at that, “How could I possibly admit that? It was just me and her at the time...you weren’t even there. With an unknown fate hanging over me, how could I just admit it so easily? What if your mom doesn’t like me and kicks me out right away?”
“No way. My mom will definitely like you just as much as I do.”
“But even so, with you not by my side, facing your mom all by myself...I got really nervous and scared!”
Stephan cleared his throat and rubbed his nose, feeling a bit guilty. That was true.
It didn’t make much sense to leave his girlfriend alone to face his hot-tempered mother while he was away.
His girlfriend happened to be an over-thinker.
“And then?”
Alana took a few deep breaths to calm down before recounting the incident seriously.
“Then she had me sit down and asked if you’d been bringing women home lately.”
Stephan perked up again. “And what did you say?”
“I said I didn’t know. I’m just a housekeeper...of course I have to protect my employer’s privacy. I wouldn’t reveal a single detail!”
Stephan laughed in exasperation. “Lana, did you really put yourself in the role of a cleaning lady?”
Alana gave an embarrassed smile. “I was just... too nervous. If you can get into character, you should do it as soon as possible. Otherwise, if you get caught, it’ll be a disaster.”
Stephan sighed.
He was speechless for a moment. “Then what?”
“Then she asked about the pink slippers on the shoe rack.”
Stephan raised an eyebrow. “I know. Those pink slippers were the ones I bought for you...they even have cute bunny patterns on them. So, when she saw those slippers, she was absolutely convinced I’d brought a woman home, right?”
Alana was surprised. “Wow, Stephan, you’re really smart...you guessed it right on the first try!”
Stephan sighed again.
Who wouldn’t?
