If Stephan couldn’t even figure that out, how stupid would he be?
Alana added, “But I told her those pink slippers are mine...I bought them specifically to wear while cleaning the house. And that cleared up her suspicions.”
Stephan grimaced and thought. ‘Mom, you’re so easy to fool!. You’ve been completely played by your future daughter-in-law...do you even realize that?!’
That said, Alana’s quick thinking in that moment was pretty impressive.
“And then?”
Alana paused for a moment. “Then... she went into our bedroom and found those dresses you bought for me...”
Upon hearing this, Stephan perked up instantly. “What? What did you say in the end? Did you confess that the dresses were yours, or did you just say they might be evidence that I brought a woman home?”
After all, discovering the dresses was really hard to explain.
Alana stammered, “Neither... neither...”
Hearing this, Stephan grew even more curious. “Then what was it exactly?”
“I’ll tell you, but don’t get mad.”
Stephan smiled. “Don’t worry, I promise I won’t get angry.”
What does this have to do with him?
Was she really being this cautious?!
Alana took a deep breath. “Alright, I’ll tell you. I came up with something on the spot and said, ‘I was cleaning your apartment once and happened to see you wearing a skirt, dancing ballet in your room.’”
Stephan’s eyes almost popped out of their sockets.
The silence was deafening.
Vance couldn’t hold it in any longer, he burst into laughter.
Alana heard it and immediately grew tense.
“Who...Whose laughter is that?”
And it sounded so lecherous.
It scared her.
“Stephan, is there someone else with you?”
Stephan shot a dark, piercing glance at Vance, his expression a mix of amusement and disdain. “Assistant Vance, is that so funny?”
Vance felt a chill run down his spine and instantly stopped laughing. “No, it’s not funny... Not funny at all.”
Although Vance was on the verge of tears at that moment, he still managed to suppress any sound of laughter.
Stephan shot Vance a sharp glare before switching his phone back to speaker mode and muting it.
Sure enough, one really shouldn’t be too flashy; otherwise, it’s easy to make a fool of oneself.
He explained to Alana on the phone, “Don’t worry about that laughter just now, it was a dog. Don’t pay it any mind.”
Vance blinked.
A dog?
He was a dog?
He really couldn’t laugh anymore.
Alana just went, “Oh,” and didn’t press the matter.
“Um, you don’t mind if I tell your mom about you dancing ballet in a skirt, do you?”
Stephan sighed, heavily.
Could he say he really did mind?
“Lana, what were you thinking back then?”
Saying that a grown man like him was wearing a skirt and dancing ballet?!
That was just completely out of line!
Alana answered honestly, “I don’t know what I was thinking either. It was just... a sudden flash of inspiration, and the words just came out.”
“By the way, your mom, after she heard me say that, her expression was really off. She looked like she’d been struck by lightning, completely dazed and disoriented, staggering around and barely able to walk straight. And she left pretty quickly. I only called you after I saw her get into the car.”
“I have no idea what happened. Why don’t you call your mom and ask?”
After all, given the situation at the time, she must have been really worried.
Stephan took a deep breath. “Even if I don’t call to ask, my mom will definitely think I’m seriously ill.”
“Huh?”
Stephan chuckled, “What normal man would wear a skirt and dance ballet at home?! When I’ve never shown any interest in the profession?”
Alana blinked.
That was true.
But she’d been so nervous at the time that her mind just couldn’t process it.
Her mind had just gone off on a wild tangent, coming up with all sorts of ridiculous, outlandish answers.
“So what should I do? I’ve already said it, there’s no taking it back now. Why don’t you... go explain it to your mom?”
“Or maybe you could just say I’m sick, that I have hallucinations from time to time and I was just rambling?”
Stephan was both exasperated and amused; this was getting more and more ridiculous.
She’d even gone so far as to suggest he was sick. But it was clear she was truly at her wit’s end.
“Don’t worry, I’ll find a way to explain everything to her.”
Alana nodded eagerly. “Mm-hmm. When you’re explaining things, could you... maybe help me salvage my reputation while you’re at it?”
After all, she’d just made a pretty bad impression...would Stephan’s mother misunderstand her?
Just thinking about it gave him a headache. Stephan was so exasperated he laughed. “What image do you need to salvage? You were playing the part of a cleaning lady just now, not my girlfriend.”
Alana slapped her forehead. “Oh, right. I almost forgot, this was a scene, and I wasn’t really in character.”
Alana suddenly realized, “But what if your mom finds out about us later? How are we going to explain that? Are we supposed to say the young master fell in love with me while I was working as a cleaning lady?”
Stephan’s brow lifted.
That was quite the wild idea.
He rubbed the bridge of his nose. “We’ll deal with that later. Let’s handle this first.”
“Yeah, you’re right. So I’ll have to put you through the trouble of handling it.”
Alana remembered something else and continued, “Oh, right. I won’t be staying here for now. To avoid your mom showing up unannounced at any moment to snoop around, I’ll have to go back to my own place.”
“Anyway, since you’re not here, it’s pretty dangerous for me to keep living here.”
Stephan frowned. “No way. What if you don’t come back to my place?”
Alana couldn’t help but say, “Did I say I wouldn’t come back to stay? Besides, your mom is a ticking time bomb. If I stay here now, she could drop by at any moment. If she comes again, I won’t have enough excuses to cover for myself. Also, I was nearly scared out of my wits just now.”
Stephan chuckled. “That’s ridiculous. Your guts were practically in your throat?”
Alana snorted, “It was even worse than that.”
Stephan was amused again, and he couldn’t help but picture her adorable, pouting face with her cheeks puffed out.
“Alright, alright. Then when I get back from my business trip, you have to come stay at my place too.”
Alana brushed it off. “Well, we’ll see. After all, your place isn’t exactly safe.”
It was as if the sky had fallen.
After the young couple ended their call, Stephan immediately called Cynthia.
Cynthia was still in the car, unable to come to terms with it.
Her mind was still reeling from the shocking news that her son was gay.
The driver heard the phone ringing and couldn’t help but remind her, “Ma’am, you have a call.”
Cynthia felt utterly hopeless. “Never mind. I’m in no mood to answer the phone right now. After raising him all these years, to find out he’s gay...I don’t know how to accept that.”
The veteran driver was taken aback and, not hesitating to ask a seemingly basic question, inquired, “Ma’am, what does ‘gay’ mean?”
“It means a man likes men.”
The veteran driver was stunned...he’d just stumbled upon a major scandal.
Oh my God!
The young master actually likes men?!.
