No wonder...no wonder the young master hasn’t brought a girlfriend home all these years. So that was why...he likes men!
“Madam, please take care of yourself."
Cynthia closed her eyes, her face filled with anguish.
“Madam, perhaps you should answer the call. It’s not good to let it ring like this.”
Cynthia took a deep breath, wiped away a tear of bitterness, and finally pulled out her phone to see which inconsiderate person was calling and ruining her mood even more.
When she looked at the screen, she realized it was her dear son.
Cynthia felt even more heartbroken and answered immediately. “You little brat! You’re going to drive your mother to her grave with all this nonsense!”
“If I hadn’t gone over to your place today, I’d never have known you actually like wearing skirts and dancing ballet!"
“Spill the beans...you haven’t brought a single woman home all these years. Is it because you like men?!”
Stephan gasped.
He’d just had a run-in with his girlfriend, whose imagination runs wild, and now he was having another one with his equally outlandish mother.
Business trips were hard enough as it is, but getting riled up twice in a row just made it even worse.
Stephan took a deep breath. “Mom, what on earth are you imagining these days?”
Cynthia gritted her teeth, “I’m not imagining things, I’m making a perfectly reasonable assumption!”
“You’re a grown man, and you’ve got a pile of women’s clothes in your room. I thought you’d brought a woman home and that’s what she’s been wearing!”
“If it weren’t for that cleaning lady you hired telling me you wear them to dance ballet, I wouldn’t have known you had such a bizarre hobby! Tell me, do you like men?!”
Stephan looked up at the sky at a 45-degree angle, his expression one of utter exasperation.
“No. Your son is straight, he only likes women and I’m pretty sure that’s confirmed.”
Cynthia frowned. “Then how do you explain the fact that you wear skirts and dance ballet?”
Stephan decided to make the best of a bad situation. “You said yourself it’s just a hobby. So what if your son has some quirky hobbies?”
Cynthia blinked.
She gave a look of disgust, like an old man on the subway staring at a phone. “Don’t you think this hobby is pretty perverted?”
Stephan sighed. “Yes, your son’s hobby is perverted.”
Cynthia was confused.
After a long moment of silence, she asked uncertainly, “Are you serious? You really don’t like men...you like women?”
“Yes.”
Cynthia retorted, “Then what about your girlfriend?”
“My girlfriend... you might have already met her.”
“What?” Cynthia couldn’t quite make him out. “Speak up! What did you just say?”
The corner of his mouth twitched slightly as he changed the subject. “Never mind. I’ll bring her home to meet you eventually anyway.”
“Don’t sneak into my house anymore. Otherwise, if you scare your future daughter-in-law away one day, your son will end up all alone sooner or later.”
Cynthia snorted. What did he mean, his daughter-in-law running away from him? She hadn’t even seen a shadow of her!
“Speaking of which, the cleaning lady you hired, how come it’s the same girl you inspected back then? I was completely taken aback when I opened the door and saw her. It’s such a small world, I’ve run into her several times in a row.”
Stephan curved his lips. “Well...fate could be planning something.”
Cynthia suddenly perked up. “You know what? We really do have a connection. I even ran into her the last time I went out to eat at a restaurant. I don’t know if she was just nervous or what, but she actually called me ‘Mom’!”
“Oh my gosh, that really gave me a start. I thought I must have heard wrong.”
Stephan’s eyes lit up. “Really? Did she really call you that?”
“Oh my, I must have heard wrong. I don’t even know her that well...why would she call me ‘Mom’?”
Stephan’s lips curled into a smile. That wasn’t a slip of the tongue, it came straight from the heart!
What did that mean?
It meant that Alana already saw herself as his wife.
Not bad...it seemed he’d already made significant progress in winning her over.
Stephan cleared his throat and decided to test his mother’s reaction. “Um, Mom, what do you think of a girl like Alana, cute and bubbly, with a personality as pure as a little white rabbit?”
Cynthia was puzzled. “What do you mean, ‘what do you think’?”
Why on earth would he suddenly start praising a girl as cute and innocent as a little white rabbit?
She’d never once heard her own son praise any woman like that.
“A girl like her...what do you think about her becoming your daughter-in-law?”
Cynthia was instantly alarmed. “Are you out of your mind? She’s already taken...she has a boyfriend if I remember correctly. Don’t even think about pulling some crazy stunt, trying to force your way in, breaking up a couple, and robbing that girl of her happiness!”
“Besides, she might not even be interested in you. You’re so old and a total old fox...I’m almost too embarrassed to say it.”
Stephan was perplexed.
Alright! This was just like her!
The undisputed champion of putting her son down.
He couldn’t take it anymore. “I was talking about a girl like her becoming your daughter-in-law, not me wanting to be the other man and meddle in someone else’s relationship.”
“Oh, you should’ve said so earlier. I thought you’d set your sights on that young lady and wanted to steal her away from her boyfriend. That’s out of the question...we’re a respectable, well-established family. We don’t do that kind of immoral nonsense!”
Stephan gulped.
“Oh, actually, your dear mother doesn’t have many requirements. As long as she’s a wonderful woman, that’s fine. The main thing is that you like her; we won’t worry about the rest for now.”
Stephan asked the question just for the sake of it, “Alright, I’ll hang up now.”
After hanging up, Stephan couldn’t help but smile. He immediately sent a message to Alana.
Stephan: [Last time you said you saw my mom at the restaurant...did you actually call her “Mom”?]
[I didn’t expect you’d be so eager to call my mom “Mom.” Have you already secretly accepted in your heart that you’re Stephan’s wife?]
[Tsk, I never would’ve guessed you were this kind of woman!]
Alana, upon seeing the message was shocked.
She was so embarrassed she rolled around on the bed.
The sky was falling!
He actually found out about this.
Did she just give him another thrill??
Stephan teased her on purpose;
[My dear wife, call me "husband."]
Alana replied, her face flushed;
Alana: [I’m going to sleep. Don’t disturb my rest.]
Stephan: [Call me ’husband’ before you go to sleep.]
Alana: [No way, no way, absolutely not! I’m not going to give you the satisfaction!]
[Anyway, you’re not here with me, so there’s nothing you can do about it!]
Stephan scoffed.
Alright then, the little white rabbit’s getting feisty...she’s even daring to defy him through the phone.
Good, very good. Just wait until he gets home and deals with her!
Alana tossed and turned in bed for a while, originally intending to just go to sleep.
But suddenly she remembered something, sat up, opened the drawer, rummaged around, and pulled out a bank card.
This bank card was given to her as compensation by the mother of that little boy after she nearly got into a car accident last time.
There were 200,000 dollars in the account, but she hadn’t touched it.
She’d been looking for an opportunity to return the card, but she’d been quite busy lately, so she hadn’t had a chance.
After a moment’s thought, she picked up her phone, thought it over carefully, then dialed a number and tried calling.
After about thirty seconds of ringing, the call was answered.
A gentle, pleasant voice drifted over the line.
“Hello, may I ask who’s calling?”
Alana froze upon hearing the voice.
For some reason, it felt a little familiar.
But she didn’t dwell on it. “Hello, may I ask what your relationship is to Jamin?”
The other person paused for a moment before speaking slowly, “He’s my son.”
Alana gave a polite smile and continued, “Hello, Ma’am. My name is Alana. This is about that accident the other day...”
