About the real Stephan Hudson?
What exactly did she mean?
Darla continued, “I’m at Lush Café. I’ll be waiting for you. Don’t be late.” With that, she hung up the phone without waiting for Alana’s reply.
It seemed as though she was certain Alana would go.
Alana grimaced.
She really didn’t want to go, and let Darla wait in vain at the café all night. But on second thought, she quickly finished her instant noodles, tidied up the kitchen, and left the house.
Because she, too, wanted to know what Darla was up to.
She arrived at the agreed-upon café.
Alana walked in and saw that Darla was already sitting at a table in the corner, waiting.
She paused for a moment, then continued walking over.
When Darla saw Alana, the corners of her mouth turned up slightly. “Alana, I really didn’t expect you to actually show up.”
Alana frowned.
Wasn’t it Darla who asked her to come?
Wasn’t coming here exactly what Darla wanted?
If she hadn’t come, Darla probably wouldn’t have been happy about it.
But Alana didn’t feel like dwelling on it. She sat down across from Darla and asked bluntly, “What’s on your mind? Just get to the point.”
Darla took a leisurely sip of her coffee before speaking. “Alana, tell me...how did you end up with Stephan Hudson?”
She was curious to know what tactics Alana had used to reel Stephan in.
She’d been trying to get close to Stephan for so long, yet hadn’t made any progress.
He seemed to have absolutely no interest in her, which was deeply frustrating to someone as proud as she was.
It had always been other men who pursued her, longing for her but unable to have her. But with Stephan, she’d stumbled more than once.
So she wanted to know exactly what clever tactics Alana had used.
Alana’s tone was utterly calm. “How we got together is my private business...there’s no reason I’d tell you.”
Darla smiled, a hint of sarcasm lingering in her expression.
“I suppose you must have used some underhanded tactics, which is why you’re being so secretive and reluctant to tell me, isn’t it?”
Alana shot Darla a glance, her tone neither submissive nor arrogant. “As expected, a dirty person sees everything as dirty.”
Darla’s smile faltered slightly, then returned. “What? Did I say something wrong?”
Alana replied calmly, “You are wrong. Stephan and I are together because we truly love each other and have won each other over with sincerity, not through the scheming you’re always spouting.”
“People aren’t fools. They won’t look at you with newfound respect just because you play a few mind games.”
Darla really wanted to applaud Alana for finding such a brilliant excuse for her scheming.
“Brilliant...truly brilliant! Alana, you’re smarter than I thought.”
Darla continued in a friendly tone, “However, I’d still kindly advise you not to stay with Stephan any longer, because... you’re simply not good enough for him!”
Alana fell silent for a moment.
This scene felt somewhat familiar, as if it overlapped with a scene from her dream.
But in the dream, Darla had been accompanied by Stephan’s mother.
But now, Darla was alone.
Perhaps because she had already experienced this in her dream, Alana appeared unusually calm at that moment.
“Whether Stephan and I are a suitable match isn’t something you alone can decide.”
Darla sneered. “Lana, you’re a girl abandoned by your parents, raised in the countryside by your grandmother since childhood. You have no status, no connections, you’re just a pitiful little nobody who can’t hold her own in public. You have nothing, and you’re utterly worthless. What do you have to offer that makes you a match for Stephan?”
It wasn’t that she was intentionally belittling Alana; it was simply that, compared to her, Alana was utterly worthless.
What she said made perfect sense.
Alana’s expression darkened. “Darla, how do you know?”
But she quickly realized, “You’ve been investigating me?”
Realizing that all her private matters had been laid bare before Darla, she couldn’t contain her anger. “Darla, do you know that privately investigating someone is against the law?”
Instead of getting angry, Darla smiled, her lips curving upward. “Don’t ask me how I know. You should be asking yourself: with your background, how could you possibly be the wife of Stephan, the heir to the Hudson family, the most powerful clan in the country?”
Alana keenly picked up on the key words in Darla’s statement and recoiled in shock.
“The Hudson family? The heir?”
Seeing Alana’s incredulous reaction, Darla couldn’t help but laugh. “What’s the matter? You’ve been with him for so long, surely you must’ve figured out his social status?”
Alana’s eyes were filled with bewilderment.
Although she had already suspected in her heart that Stephan wasn’t a man from an ordinary family.
But she never imagined his status would be so... exalted as to be out of reach.
No wonder he could so casually buy her gifts worth tens of millions.
No wonder the rich second-generation kids at the gatherings he took her to treated him with such respect.
It turned out his status far surpassed that of his all his friends.
She should have realized this long ago, but... she didn’t want to think about it, nor did she want to speculate.
She’d rather just stay with him, oblivious to the truth.
But now, Darla had personally exposed the truth.
She remembered asking Stephan once what his relationship was with the great Hudson family. He said there was absolutely no connection whatsoever. Just the same surname.
At the time, she had truly believed him.
Darla watched her reaction, smiled, and continued, “Lana, regardless of whether you knew Stephan’s true identity before, the gap between you two is so vast that it’s impossible for you to be together. His parents would never approve of you two being together.”
“So, I’m giving you this friendly advice: break up sooner rather than later, before things get so messy that everyone ends up in a devastating situation.”
Alana’s mind was in turmoil, but she didn’t want Darla to see even a hint of it. Nor did she want to be easily discouraged by her.
She shook her head firmly. “No, I don’t want to break up with him.”
Even if she and Stephan were to part ways in the end, it wasn’t up to Darla to be the one to say it.
Darla curled her lips. “You don’t want to break up with him because you found out his true identity and now, you’re trying to climb your way up to him, a rags-to-riches story? Do you even have the right to say that?”
Alana shook her head.
No, that wasn’t it.
It was because she was clinging to that warmth she shared with Stephan. But there was no need to explain that to Darla.
Darla sneered, not wanting to waste any more time on a vain woman like Alana.
