Because Stephan wouldn’t let her turn it off; he said he wanted to look at her a little longer.

Stephan was also lying in bed, one hand behind his head and the other holding his phone, gazing at the girl’s sleeping face on the screen.

Whose girlfriend sleeps so soundly and looks so beautiful? His.

He was practically itching to lick the screen.

It was just a shame he couldn’t hold her while he slept tonight. He felt a hollow emptiness inside.

All he could do was watch her like this, to soothe his lonely heart. “The long night drags on, and I can’t sleep.”

He was dying to go home.

His phone was almost out of battery.

Stephan wanted to find a charger to recharge it.

The girl on the screen, who knows what she was dreaming about...suddenly clutched her little rabbit tight, her eyes twitched

“Stephan, don’t leave me...”

Stephan frowned, just as he was about to tell her he wouldn’t leave her.

But the next second, the phone ran out of battery and shut down automatically. The girl on the screen vanished just as suddenly as the black screen itself.

Damn it!

Stephan frowned deeply, quickly grabbed the charger, and plugged it in. Once the phone booted up again, he wanted to call her.

But then he realized she was already asleep. If he called her now, he’d probably wake her up.

He thought of the slightly reddened, moist corners of Alana’s eyes, his heart was in turmoil.

Why was this night dragging on so long?

Please, let tomorrow come soon...

*********

Alana slept until she woke up naturally.

It was just past six in the morning.

It was just beginning to get light outside.

When Alana got out of bed, she noticed her pillow was damp.

She stared at the damp spot on her pillow, frozen for a moment.

She didn’t know how it happened, but she had actually dreamed of Stephan.

She dreamed that Stephan had returned from a business trip, and she confessed everything to him.

But unexpectedly, the moment she finished speaking, Stephan coldly announced their breakup.

“Lana, you’ve really let me down. How could you keep this from me for so long?”

Alana frantically denied it. “I didn’t. I just hadn’t found the right moment to tell you.”

Stephan showed not the slightest flicker of emotion. “Regardless, I know now. You’re nothing but a woman abandoned by her parents. You have nothing. You’re not worthy of being with me. Let’s break up.”

Alana’s eyes welled up with tears. “But I love you!”

Stephan sneered, “Love? Who needs your love! Your love is worthless!” Hearing this, Alana felt as if she’d been struck by a bolt from the blue; her whole body felt like it was about to collapse.

She never would have imagined such words could come from Stephan’s mouth.

He was so heartless.

It was clearly him who had pursued her in the first place...

Alana snapped out of her reverie, but she still felt somewhat dazed.

They say what you think about during the day appears in your dreams at night.

Whatever she feared, that’s exactly what she dreamed about.

But thankfully, it was just a dream...not reality.

Alana got out of bed, went into the bathroom, splashed some water on her face, and tried to clear her head.

After freshening up, she had no appetite for breakfast.

She grabbed her phone and left the apartment.

There was a breakfast stall downstairs, so she bought a steamed bun and a cup of soy milk.

After quickly finishing her breakfast, she hopped on her electric scooter and headed to the office.

As she passed an intersection, she stopped to wait for the traffic light.

Alana noticed a crowd gathering by the sidewalk.

It looked like they were watching some kind of commotion.

Alana didn’t want to get involved, but she thought she spotted someone she knew.

She hesitated for a moment, then parked her electric scooter by the roadside and walked over to take a look.

“Ow...that really hurts!”

“It was that little brat! He deliberately shoved me while I was walking...now my whole body feels like it’s about to fall apart!”

“I didn’t! You’re lying...that’s not what happened at all!”

“Hey, hey, hey! You’re twisting the facts!”

“Everyone, come over here and judge for yourselves! A kid pushes an old lady over and still thinks he’s in the right!”

“Quick, get his parents out here! I want them to take responsibility for this!”

An elderly woman in her seventies or eighties sat on the ground, clutching a little boy’s shirt tightly to keep him from leaving.

The little boy was dressed in a small suit, carrying a small backpack; his fine clothes made it clear he was the child of a wealthy family.

Alana stepped closer and instantly recognized the boy as Jamin, whom she had met twice before.

The bystanders around them were all just gawking at the spectacle, unaware of what had happened, and though they had gathered, they didn’t take any action.

Jamin’s shirt was being held tight by the old woman; his face was flushed with anger, but he was powerless to do anything about it.

He had never encountered a situation like this in his entire life.

Alana could have simply ignored the situation; she was in a hurry to get to work.

But seeing Jamin looking so anxious and helpless, she felt a twinge of sympathy.

After a moment’s thought, she pushed her way through the crowd and called out, “Jamin!”

When Jamin saw Alana, his eyes lit up as if he’d found a lifeline.

“Pretty lady, please save me!”

Alana immediately walked over to Jamin, gently placing her fingers on his head, her gaze firm. “Tell me, what happened?”

Perhaps sensing Alana’s concern, burst into tears and pointed at the old woman on the ground.

“It’s this old lady who’s slandering me! She was trying to cross the street just now. She told me she had trouble walking and was using a cane, so she asked me to help her cross. I saw she was limping, so I kindly helped her. But after just a few steps, she suddenly fell down and insisted I’d pushed her on purpose!”

Hearing this, the old woman immediately retorted, “Nonsense! It was clearly you who pushed me! Are you related to this little brat? That brat just pushed me over and hurt my leg. You have to take responsibility. Pay me tens of thousands of dollars right now, and I’ll let you off the hook! Otherwise, none of you are leaving here today!”

Alana comforted the crying Jamin, then glanced at the old woman on the ground.

“Ma’am, did you hurt your leg? If your leg is injured, I’ll call 911 for you and have you taken to the hospital.”

The old woman shouted, “I’m not going to the hospital! I want you to pay me compensation!”

Alana said calmly, “If you don’t go to the hospital, how would we know how serious your injury is or how much treatment will cost?”

“Here’s what we’ll do: I’ll call the ambulance and have you taken to the hospital for a checkup first. We’ll find out what caused this leg injury. If it really was this child who knocked you over and hurt your leg, we’ll reimburse you for the medical expenses.”

Upon hearing this, a flicker of guilt crossed the old woman’s eyes. “There’s no need to go to all that trouble. Just give me the money right now, and I’ll go to the hospital for a checkup myself!”

Alana said, “We don’t think it’s a bother.”

“Get up, ma’am. Don’t make things difficult for a little boy who was only trying to help you.” Alana tried to help the old woman up, but she refused, insisting that Alana pay her compensation before she would get up.

Not only did Alana sense something was off, but the people around them did too, and they all tried to persuade her.

“Old lady, get up and let’s go to the hospital together!”

“Exactly. Go to the hospital for a proper checkup, and you’ll find out what the problem is.”

“If you won’t cooperate and go to the hospital for a checkup, could it be that you’re faking your leg injury?”

“Exactly. At your age, deliberately trying to swindle a young boy, don’t you feel ashamed?”

The old woman’s face flushed red as she insisted, “I didn’t! It was this little brat who pushed me!”

“Then why don’t you go to the hospital? The other person is willing to cover your medical expenses, but you won’t even go. Could it be you have something to hide?”

The old woman did indeed have something to hide.

Her leg wasn’t injured at all, it was all just an act.

She usually enjoyed pulling these kinds of scams to swindle a little money.
