When the old lady saw the little boy, alone with no family him around and dressed so expensively, she knew he must be from a wealthy family.

For a child from a wealthy family, money is the last thing they lack. A few words of intimidation were enough to make him hand over the money, sobbing and all.

She’d pulled this off a few times before, so she decided to take it a step further.

She hadn’t expected to get a helper before she could even swindle him.

Alana paused for a moment before continuing, “Ma’am, if you don’t want to go to the hospital with us for a checkup, and you’re not going to let us off the hook, then I’m going to call the police. I recall there’s a police station nearby. If I call the police, they should be here in no time.”

The old woman’s expression changed instantly. “Call the police? Who told you to call the police? It’s just a matter of paying ten thousand or a few thousand dollars, why would we need to call the police?”

“You rich people, you won’t even pay a few thousand yuan to an old woman like me?!”

Alana frowned. “Being wealthy is one thing, but being wronged is another. This little boy had a heart full of kindness, a desire to help others, and a sense of justice, yet you exploited his goodness to blackmail him and tarnished his innocence!”

“Because of your ulterior motives, you might leave a psychological scar on him, he might even grow cold-hearted in the future and be afraid to help others freely.”

“And do you have a grandson? Don’t you fear that by doing this, your grandson might one day face the danger of being falsely accused and extorted by others?”

The old woman choked on her words, momentarily unable to retort.

Alana frowned and said, “I have a grandmother who’s about your age, so I don’t really want to make things difficult for you. But if you keep pestering me, I’ll call the police right now.”

The old woman could tell Alana was no pushover. Being the type to bully the weak and cower from the strong, she had no choice but to let go of Jamin.

Alana then successfully led Jamin away from the crowd.

Jamin wiped away her tears and said gratefully, “Thank you for helping me just now.”

Alana replied earnestly, “You’re welcome. What are you doing here? Where’s your family?”

Jamin pouted. “My school is nearby. The driver dropped me off and went back. I

thought school was too boring, so I snuck out for a walk. I never expected to run into something like this.”

Alana frowned. “You’re not in class? You snuck out of school?”

Jamin looked a little guilty. “I...I just came out for a walk. I’ll be back in a little while.”

Alana’s tone turned serious. “Skipping class is wrong. Did your teacher know you

snuck out of school?”

“I don’t know.”

Since he’d already snuck out, how could his teacher possibly know?

Alana winced in exasperation. “You’re not allowed to skip school anymore. This time

you ran into an old lady trying to swindle you, and you were lucky to run into me. But what if next time you run into child traffickers who kidnaps you and take you to be sold for your kidneys?”

Jamin was confused. “What’s...child traffickers?”

Alana explained with a straight face, “They’re bad people who use a sharp, big knife to cut open your stomach, make a hole, and then rip out your kidneys!”

Jamin’s face went pale instantly. “What? Is it that scary?”

Alana nodded, her expression grave. “You bet it is. So from now on, never go out alone. No matter where you go, your Mom and Dad have to be with you, okay?”

Jamin pouted. “But Mom and Dad are so busy every day, they don’t have time to be with me...”

He wanted to go out and play, there were so many places he wanted to visit, but he couldn’t go anywhere.

He was so envious of those kids who had their parents to go out and play with them.

Unlike him, he had classes during the day and more classes at night. It was so tiring. He didn’t even have time to play.

Upon hearing this, Alana felt a pang of sadness.

When she was a child, hadn’t she also been a child without her parents by her side?

But he was different, he still had his parents by his side.

His parents loved him, that was his good fortune.

Alana ruffled Jamin’s hair. “Then just act cute and beg them to spend more time with you. You’re so adorable, as long as you act cute and roll around, they’ll definitely make time for you.”

“Really?”

“Really.”

Jamin puffed out his chest, standing tall and proud. “But I’m a real man, how could I

just go around acting all cute? That’s something only girls do!”

Alana found it a bit amusing. “Boys can act cute too. Only kids who know how to act cute get treats. Do you want Mom and Dad to spend more time with you, or do you want to be a ‘real man’?”

Jamin blinked.

After a moment’s hesitation, he admitted, “I want Mom and Dad to spend time with me.”

Alana nodded. “Exactly.”

Jamin blinked his big, adorable eyes. “Then, pretty lady, if my parents are busy, can I come play with you?”

Alana replied tactfully, “I’ll have to see. If I’m free, sure.”

Jamin nodded. “Okay. But speaking of which, didn’t I give you my phone number?

Why haven’t you contacted me? I’ve been waiting for you to contact me so we could play together.”

Alana said, “I did call you, but your mom answered, and she hung up after just a few

words.”

“Huh?” Jamin froze. “But my mom never told me about that!”

Alana thought for a moment. “Maybe your mom doesn’t want you to interact with strangers too much. She’s afraid I’m a bad person with bad intentions toward you.”

Jamin shook his head. “That’s not it at all! You’re obviously a good person, I like you.”

Alana smiled. “Let’s not worry about that for now. Where’s your school? I’ll walk you back.”

Jamin pointed in a certain direction.

Alana glanced in that direction; it looked like a private elite school.

Rumor has it that tuition for students there can run into the hundreds of thousands dollars a year.

Some people are just born with an advantage.

She couldn’t even bring herself to dream of attending a private school like that.

She recalled her childhood, when her aunt’s daughter attended an elite school costing over a few thousand dollars a year, Alana on the other hand attended a public school without much funding.

Her aunt said her daughter was born into a life of wealth and privilege, so she should attend the best schools and associate with the most outstanding people.

But Alana was just a child abandoned by her parents, unwanted by anyone. She was lucky just to have the chance to go to school, why should she be picky about which school was good or bad?

Her aunt’s daughter wore princess dresses every day and had been raised to be a spoiled princess.

Alana, on the other hand, wore hand-me-downs every day, dirty and disheveled.

That was just how it is for a child without parents to love her, it was lucky enough just to be alive and grow up. What else could she possibly ask for?

Alana pushed aside her lingering resentment and took Jamin’s hand, intending to lead him to her little scooter.

Jamin hadn’t expected Alana to suddenly take his hand; a faint blush spread across his fair, delicate cheeks.

“Your hands are so soft and delicate.” As he spoke, he couldn’t resist squeezing her fingers.

Why did it feel like she was being teased by a child?

Alana didn’t respond; she simply led him over to her scooter.

“Good boy, hop on my scooter.”

Jamin took a few steps and straddled the seat.

He looked her up and down curiously. “Your scooter is so cool! I’ve never ridden one like this before. Is it an expensive bike?”

Alana swallowed.

This rich kid!

After a moment of silence, she reminded him, “Hold on tight to me, or you might fall off.”

Jamin went, “Oh,” and obediently wrapped both arms around Alana.

Alana started riding her little electric scooter, carrying the little bundle of joy to his school.

Jamin sat behind Alana, feeling the breeze in his face the whole way, and squealed with delight.

They arrived at the school gate.

Alana glanced at the name engraved on the stone monument at the entrance...Aifenli Private School.

She felt that the names of some private schools were pretentious and ostentatious.

They had a strong foreign vibe, as if they were supposed to be high-end and prestigious.

Jamin hopped off the scooter, still buzzing with excitement. “We’re here. This is my school.”

Alana noticed his hair was almost blown into a frizz, looking like a little disheveled.

She reached out to smooth it down and said gently, “Okay, I see. Go on inside.”

Jamin looked at Alana with a hint of reluctance in his eyes. “Do you want to come in and take a look around my school?”
