Alana and Stephan hurriedly packed her luggage; in less than a few minutes, they had almost finished.

Alana didn’t want to leave without saying a word. She had originally planned to ask Carla to help her take a day off, but when she thought of Cole being in the next room, she decided not to bother Carla.

But as it turned out, just as Alana and Stephan stepped out of the room, they ran right into Cole, who had just come out as well.

Grace and Danielle also came out of their room.

Carla was right behind Alana.

For a moment, the sight of Alana and Stephan standing hand in hand was caught by their eyes.

The scene was quite dramatic, but Alana had no time to worry about anything else.

She glanced at everyone and stated simply, “Let me introduce you...this is my boyfriend.”

Grace and Danielle saw the handsome man standing beside Alana and both stared in astonishment, their eyes wide with surprise.

He was way too handsome!

Just last night, Danielle had suspected that Alana was exaggerating her boyfriend’s looks, how could anyone be more handsome than her beloved Manager Cole?

But now that she saw him in person...

Well, she guessed she just hasn’t seen enough of the world.

No wonder Alana remained unfazed by Manager Cole’s repeated advances, it turns out her boyfriend is simply breathtaking!

Not only his looks, but his physique is absolutely killer too.

Seriously, where on earth did Alana find a boyfriend like that?

She was so jealous!

When Cole saw Alana holding Stephan’s hand and appearing before everyone with such confidence, his eyes darkened instantly.

He met Stephan’s cold, slightly defiant gaze, which seemed to tell him he was nothing but a complete clown.

Ignoring their shocked stares, Alana looked at Cole and said bluntly, “Manager Cole, I have some family matters to attend to and would like to take a few days off.”

Cole, unwilling to let Alana leave with Stephan, frowned and asked, “We’re on a business trip, and this is only our third day...a critical moment. What could possibly be more important than work?”

Alana took a deep breath. “Do you really need to know the reason?”

Cole nodded. “Yes. Without a valid reason, I won’t allow you to leave in the middle of this.”

Alana clenched her fists, her voice trembling slightly. “Fine, I’ll give you a valid reason. My grandmother fell and hit her head. She’s in the operating room right now. Is this still less important than work?”

Cole’s pupils contracted.

Alana’s breathing evened out. “I don’t need to ask you for time off anymore. I’m officially notifying you right now: I’m resigning. From this moment on, I’m no longer under your supervision, so you don’t need to approve my leave.”

Cole instinctively tried to stop her. “Lana, I’m sorry. I didn’t know it was for this reason...”

Alana nodded. “I know. You’re just doing your job. But I’ve wanted to quit for a long time. This time, I’m officially resigning and leaving the company. My grandmother’s condition has taken a turn for the worse, so I may need to stay in my hometown for a while. Rather than putting you in a difficult position by taking leave, I’d rather just resign. I hope you’ll approve it.”

Cole anxiously tried to step forward to explain, “No, that’s not what I meant...”

Stephan stepped directly in front of him, reached out, and pushed him aside without hesitation. “My girlfriend and I have a flight to catch, so we’re leaving first.”

Cole couldn’t help but say, “Lana, let me walk you out!”

Stephan snorted derisively, his dark eyes fixed on Cole with a warning glint.

“She has me, her boyfriend, to take her. There’s no need for you to go out of your way.” Cole looked at Stephan, his fist clenching tightly.

Alana had no desire to stay any longer. She lowered her head and said, “I’m sorry, everyone. I’ve caused you trouble this time. Goodbye.”

Stephan also said goodbye to Alana’s colleagues, then pulled her suitcase and wrapped his arm around her waist as they left.

Cole could only watch them leave helplessly, feeling powerless and tormented, his heart aching as if it were being torn apart.

Carla couldn’t help but lean closer to Danielle and whisper, “Did you see that? I told you Alana’s boyfriend was handsome, didn’t I?”

“And he actually dared to stand up to our Manager Cole. I bet he’s no ordinary guy.”

Danielle snorted. “Is a man with a mysterious background someone a woman like Alana could easily control? He’s clearly just a broke loser dressed up in fancy clothes!”

Carla was shocked at Danielle’s words.

What a terrifying woman...she can’t have him, so she deliberately slanders him!

Grace looked at Cole and couldn’t help but ask, “Manager Cole, now that Alana has stepped away, what should we...”

Before she could finish, Cole’s phone suddenly rang urgently.

He motioned for Grace to pause, then pulled out his phone to check, it was actually a call from the hospital.

Cole answered, and the caller spoke first.

“Hello, are you a family member of Camila?”

Cole frowned, a sense of foreboding washing over him. “Yes, I’m her brother. Has something happened to my sister?”

The doctor said, “Your sister was beaten up, sustaining multiple comminuted fractures. She’s currently in the operating room undergoing emergency surgery. Please come over to pay the surgery fees.”

Cole was stunned. “What?”

His sister had actually been beaten up?

And she has multiple comminuted fractures?!

Out of the blue, how could something like this happen?!

“Doctor, who beat my sister like this?”

“I’m not sure. Someone left your sister at the hospital entrance. When we went out to check on her, she was lying motionless on the ground, unconscious.”

Cole furrowed his brow; his gut told him this wasn’t a simple matter. “Alright, I understand. I’ll head to your hospital right away.”

He hung up the phone.

Cole turned to Grace and the others. “Something’s happened to my sister, she’s been admitted to the hospital. I have to go back and see her. As for the situation here, I’ll have to ask you to take charge and continue with two of your subordinates.”

Grace felt as if the sky had fallen, for the backbone of the operation was gone. “Just the three of us...me, Carla, and Danielle?”

“Yes. I trust you, Director Grace, to handle this.”

Grace sighed, heavily.

Ha, a team of five suddenly down to three...the workload had doubled. Who could easily guarantee they’d handle it well?

But with no other choice, she nodded in agreement. “Alright, you can go. Leave the rest to us.”

Cole nodded, turned around, and went back to pack his things and leave.

Leaving Grace, Carla, and Danielle behind, the three of them were inwardly grumbling and complaining.

***********

Meanwhile, Stephan and Alana had already arrived at the airport and successfully boarded the flight.

Stephan had booked first-class tickets; the flight would take about two hours.

He hoped Alana would lie down and rest for a while.

But she was in no mood to sleep; she kept checking her phone for any updates from her aunt.

She was in agony.

Fearing she might become anxious and stressed, Stephan asked a flight attendant to bring her a cup of hot water.

He tested the water’s temperature first, making sure it was drinkable, before handing it to her.

“Have a sip of warm water.”

Alana’s mouth was parched; as soon as she saw the water, she leaned in and took a big gulp.

Stephan set the remaining water on the table, then wrapped his arms around Alana and spoke gently to comfort her.

“Don’t worry, and don’t be anxious. Grandma will be fine.”

Alana buried her face in his chest, feeling the warmth radiating from him. She bit her lip, fighting back tears, and said, “Yes, I believe Grandma will pull through.”

*********

Meanwhile, after contacting Alana, her uncle secretly reached out to Alana’s mother.

“Agnes, something’s happened to mom again. She’d just been discharged from the hospital when she fell and hit her head, and now she’s back in the operating room.”

“We don’t know the full extent yet, but the doctor said she might not make it.”

After all, she’d already undergone surgery for her broken arm last time, and now she’s facing another one. She’s an elderly woman in her seventies or eighties...even the strongest body can’t take much more.

Agnes face paled. “What? How could this happen? Didn’t I ask you to take good care of her? How did she end up hitting her head again?”
