--Chapter 21--

Title: I’ll Feed You Master!

The heavy gates closed behind them with a muted thud. And for the first time that day...

The world became incredibly calm and quiet. There were no whispering nobles or church officials trying to steer up public opinion.

They were no curious stares that followed Nyxara’s horns for far too long .

Inside their temporary home, there was just silence.

Takeshi let out a slow breath he hadn’t realised he’d been holding.

"...Home already feels better."

The words slipped out before he could stop them.

’Home.’ he almost laughed.

He’d only been in this world for a handful of days, yet somehow this old dusty manor already felt more welcoming than the his old life.

Than the constant struggle to meet up with the expectations mounted by adoptive parents because he had lost his real parents before he even knew how to walk.

It had been hell... A hell he endured and slowly flourished in even though he was been constantly undermined.

The thoughts caused Xavier’s eyes to close up slightly even as Nyxara watched him.

And then, a warm aroma drifted in from somewhere deeper inside the house. It reached him before he saw the other side of the bronze colored door.

The moment, he, Nyxara and Lana entered..the source became even more undeniable.

"Fresh bread and roasted meat,"Nyxara announced as she sniffed the air.

Takeshi turned to Lana, cocking his head slightly. "This--Yo"

Takeshi couldn’t finish his statement when Nyxara placed her heavy breast over his head.

"There is also butter.." she paused and tilted her head. "Something herbal too."

Takeshi rolled his eyes. "Nyx..."

Before he could continue, his non-chalance was betrayed by the embarrassing growl of his stomach.

Nyxara moved back and smiled. " I heard that..."

"I’ve barely eaten anything edible since getting summoned," Takeshi explained, his old habits of trying to satisfy people’s curiosity of him surfaced for a moment.

Just then he caught himself and held back his tongue.

However, Nyxara watched and considered what he’d said for a moment before nodding.

"That’s fair. And its Solaria."

The smell grew stronger as they stepped into the once dusty dining room.

Fair enough, it wasn’t the grand banquet hall he’d expected from a manor that was in the palace.

Instead, it felt... lived in.

A long oak table occupied the centre of the room, polished enough to catch the light spilling through the windows.

Clay bowls and wooden plates had already been arranged neatly, while several steaming dishes rested in the middle of the table beneath woven covers that struggled to keep the heat trapped inside.

The kitchen remained visible through the open doorway to the left, at the end of the room.

A pot still simmered quietly over the stove. Someone had only just finished cooking.

"Welcome back," The soft greeting almost blended into the room itself.

Solaria stood beside the table with both hands folded neatly in front of her apron.

The moment Takeshi looked her way, she instinctively shifted half a step and appeared behind him, almost using his shoulder as a shield before realising what she’d done.

"Master," the words slipped from her mouth like honey.

A small smile found Takeshi’s face. "We’re back."

She gave a tiny nod, cleaning her hand against the apron. "I can see that..."

There was an awkward pause in the room, Lana smirked and sat on a chair.

Noticing the awkwardness, Solaria quietly added with a sexy smile. "I prepared dinner."

Solaria barely finished her statement when everyone realized Nyxara was already halfway to the table.

She lifted one of the woven covers. Letting curls of steam escape.

"...Finally."

Before anyone could stop her, she’d already stolen a slice of roasted meat with her fingers.

She hissed as the heat caught her off guard, but being a Demoness of Hellfire, she got accustomed to it immediately and tossed the meat into her mouth.

"...Worth it."

Takeshi couldn’t help but laugh. "I was wondering how long you’d last."

Nyxara swallowed. "I tried my best."

"You lasted less than six seconds."

"...A personal best," Nyxara grinned from ear to ear, her fingers aiming for the bread.

Lana remained silent, she didn’t reach for the the food and didn’t bother to interrupt.

She simply watched.

Her crimson eyes moved from Nyxara’s enthusiastic eating...

...to Solaria standing almost nervously beside Takeshi before finally settling on Takeshi himself.

She observed with an unsettling silence as though committing every little interaction to memory.

Solaria finally gathered enough courage to move again.

She walked around the table, pulled out a chair and quietly looked towards Takeshi.

"...Please."

He blinked at the gesture. Never in his life has anyone treated him in any way close to this.

"You don’t have to..."

"I want to," the answer came so softly it almost disappeared just as quickly as it came.

There wasn’t a hint of insistence in her voice only an obliging sincerity.

Takeshi sat after a second or two of hesitation.

Just as he sat, he noticed the tiny sigh of relief Solaria let out afterwards.

She’d actually been nervous he’d refuse.

Without another word, Solaria picked up a knife and carefully carved a small piece from the roast.

Her movements were slow and deliberate, easily bordering reverence.

She placed the slice onto a plate, added a little of the sauce she’d prepared beside it, then hesitated with the fork in her hand.

Takeshi noticed with a raised brow. ".Something wrong?"

She lowered her eyes, her fingers running along the edge of the silverware.

"...May I?"

For a second, it seemed like they were the only ones in the room. Neither of them spoke.

Nyxara looked up from the opposite side of the table, another piece of bread already in one hand, one stuffed in her mouth.

Lana’s gaze quietly shifted between them. And the room suddenly felt much quieter than before.

Takeshi smiled."If it’ll make you happy."

The tension left Solaria’s shoulders so subtly that only someone watching her closely would’ve noticed.

She lifted the fork carefully like it was glassware and slowly placed in his open mouth.

The first bite barely touched his tongue before the flavour spread through his mouth.

The taste was rich and tender. So good Takeshi believed he would actually need to invent new words to describe the sensation.

He stopped chewing for a moment.

Images of the grey slop the Church had fed him flashed through his mind without invitation.

That watery excuse for food had filled his stomach only a few days ago.

But this...

This actually felt like someone wanted him to eat.

"Um...um..This is fantas..um, fantabulous," Takeshi juggled his words unsure which to use.

Solaria looked down, her face cherry red.

"T..Thank you master."

Her voice was barely above a whisper. Yet the small smile tugging at her lips said far more than her voice ever could.

Her confidence soared like an eagle in that moment.
