High School Student with Immortal Race System

Chapter 205 - 204: Martial Arts: Wind Return

A new week began, and Yang Shen returned to campus life.

He spent his days attending class, cultivating, and translating. His schedule was packed, but fulfilling.

He had mostly finished translating the Qi Daoist Technique, *Refining Grease and Grain*. As a piece of wisdom from 2,300 years ago, it was truly enlightening.

Interestingly, as his understanding deepened, Yang Shen discovered he had another Cultivation Technique on hand that could complement *Refining Grease and Grain*.

It was the *Blood Burning Force*, which he had acquired a long while ago.

The effects of the two Cultivation Techniques were completely different, but their core concepts and approaches could be mutually informative, as both involved the rapid mobilization of internal energy.

One was for rapid digestion, the other for rapid strengthening.

Yang Shen had never studied "Cultivation Method Creation," nor was he a student of the "Martial Arts Theory School," but he had his own advantage: as a Cultivator, he was far more sensitive to Spiritual Qi than any Martial Artist.

He could try to circulate it within his body, constantly adjusting based on the feedback. This might take some time, but the path was viable.

Between his translations, prior accumulations, and system rewards, the Yang Family’s collection of Cultivation Techniques and Immortal Techniques was steadily growing. In addition to his personal research, Yang Shen began to compile and organize some of the less sensitive texts into volumes, planning to place them on the second floor of the ancestral hall to serve as a library.

Additionally, Yang Shen’s strength was still steadily progressing at a rate of 20 points of Qi and Blood Value per day. His current Qi and Blood Value was 1402, getting closer and closer to the 1800 threshold for the Middle Stage of Innate.

If all went according to plan, he would smoothly break through to the Middle Stage of Innate at the beginning of the month.

This week, both Xu Bamboo and Long Jiu successfully embarked on the path of Cultivation. At the first level of Qi Refining, and with the help of the Array at the Yang Residence, they were each gaining about 6-7 points a day, which greatly increased the efficiency of their power progression.

Long Jiu had been on standby for a very long time, so her strength had long since stagnated. She was finally rebooting.

But as for Xu Bamboo... considering she was on the verge of Innate Rebirth, she had intentionally stopped taking "extra Supplements."

During her final push in high school, under Ye Qingyao’s guidance, she had consumed far too many elixirs. It would be nearly impossible for her to reach the state of "Extreme Innate" like Yang Shen. Despite her considerable talent, her body inevitably had medicinal residue accumulated within it.

Of course, this wasn’t a problem in itself; no modern Martial Artist could escape this situation. But now, wasn’t there a new path to choose?

So Yang Shen tried teaching Xu Bamboo the *Vomiting Valley Qi* technique.

Currently, Xu Bamboo was suppressing the growth of her Qi and Blood Value while practicing *Vomiting Valley Qi* to adjust her condition in preparation for breaking through to the Innate realm.

And after breaking through to the Innate realm, Xu Bamboo planned to, like Yang Shen, no longer take elixirs unless absolutely necessary.

The medicinal buildup could fade over time; after all, the body of a Martial Artist was inherently powerful.

But the problem was, they just couldn’t stop taking them!

Martial Artists at nearly every realm were taking them, unless they decided to "lie flat" and stop using them altogether.

Therefore, medicinal accumulation was an issue of dynamic equilibrium. Since the "Yang Family Secret Transmission" could already provide a virtually inexhaustible supply of Source, why bother taking elixirs and gilding the lily?

Without "Fist Intent" or the *Buddha Sound Body Refining Technique*, simply focusing on Strengthening one’s Qi and Blood Value required considerable effort.

Zhuzi hoped to get her condition right and break through to the Innate realm before the placement challenges at the start of the month. That way, she’d be in a much more comfortable position. As a result, she was incredibly diligent every day.

So diligent, in fact, that even though they lived under the same roof, Yang Shen often didn’t even notice she was there. She was either cultivating quietly on the fourth floor of the ancestral hall or practicing *Vomiting Valley Qi* in her room.

But this situation where everyone was busy...

It was also reassuring and satisfying, much like the university life he had imagined before the semester started.

Well... it was getting close.

...

It was Stadium 8 again, time for Spear Skill class.

But today, that Spear Skill teacher with the white hair and beard had brought in a graduate student teaching assistant to lead the main class.

As for himself, he was off to the side, teaching Yang Shen "Wind Return."

The old professor wore a traditional white training uniform. He had the air of an immortal sage, but his posture was ramrod straight and full of vigor. He held a steel spear as thick as an egg.

Who would have thought this was an old man nearly 90 years old?

The old professor greatly admired Yang Shen. The spear is called the king of all weapons, but in reality, far more people use swords or sabers; the user base is much smaller.

He really hoped that this year’s number one student would be a Spear Skill expert, as it would be beneficial for the long-term development of his discipline.

"Yang, so-called Martial Arts techniques are a synergy between a Martial Artist’s own force and Source. An Innate Martial Artist is very familiar with their own ’force,’ but they aren’t familiar with Source, even though they are constantly supplementing it."

As he spoke, the old professor raised a hand, releasing Gang Qi from his palm. "For you, Source is an invisible, intangible thing. For example, right now, my palm may look empty to you, but I am continuously guiding a surge of Source!"

Yang Shen: ...

’Professor, the Spiritual Qi in your hand is a little thin... Did you skip lunch?’

The old professor continued, "I don’t know how you managed to master ’Overlapping Waves,’ but I imagine it took you thousands of attempts and you likely suffered many injuries. That’s a completely self-taught path. But rest assured, my instruction will be much more orthodox and far safer."

With that, he tapped the butt of the spear with his foot, bringing it from a vertical rest to a horizontal guard. The weapon, which weighed dozens of pounds, seemed as light as a feather in his hands.

"Let me demonstrate."

Then, he gave a sharp swing with a single hand.

A violent blast of force shot forward. A visible shimmer, a crescent-shaped ripple in the air itself, sped toward Yang Shen.

Yang Shen was startled and immediately cast aside any thought of underestimating the old man. Fortunately, the "air crescent" possessed no real killing power. It dissipated into a strong gust of wind after traveling a dozen or so meters, forcing Yang Shen to squint.

It wasn’t Gang Qi, but simply air!

’And that was from a distance,’ he thought. ’If it were closer, the force would be even greater.’

As the professor had struck, Yang Shen had seen faint Spiritual Energy Fluctuations...

"This is ’Wind Return,’ or rather, the most basic form of ’Wind Return.’ It’s a defensive Martial Arts technique in Spear Skill, mainly used to disrupt and disperse ranged attacks. Of course, if used skillfully, it can also interfere with the enemy."

The old professor, pleased by Yang Shen’s astonishment, smiled. "Imagine if every thrust and every move you made was accompanied by ’Wind Return.’ You could kick up dust and send stones flying. How much of an impact would that have on your opponent?"

"The reason I previously suggested you start with ’Dragon Break’ is the same. There are no superior or inferior Martial Arts techniques. Any technique, when mastered, is a good technique."

Yang Shen found himself agreeing.

’Doesn’t matter if you’re a master or a scrub. If you can kill the other guy, you’re good enough.’

He became even more certain of his previous judgment: Martial Arts techniques were the "Magic" of the Martial Arts Side.

They were the methods Martial Artists used to drive "Source" to achieve specific effects, albeit in a clunkier, more energy-efficient manner.

With Magic, one could stand perfectly still and, with a mere twitch of a finger, guide Spiritual Qi into a specific pattern.

Martial Arts, however, required one to Exert Force with the entire body, because Source was not as active within a Martial Artist.

Those who had mastered Fist Intent were an exception.

He wondered what kind of strange effects those legendary top-tier Martial Arts, the ones that required signing an "Indenture Contract" to learn, would have.

Would they be as wondrous as Magic?

Yang Shen’s mind raced, instantly extrapolating. He raised his hand. "Professor, if you were to combine ’Wind Return’ with quicklime, wouldn’t its disruptive capabilities be massively enhanced?"

The old professor was taken aback, hesitated slightly, but still nodded. "Although... hmm, you’re right..."

"And what if someone had fire-based abilities? Wouldn’t the wind just fan the flames, causing a flash burn?"

"It should... be possible."

But Yang Shen shook his head. "No, that’s not right. You’d have to go with concentrated sulfuric acid. Fire is too conspicuous. But droplets of concentrated sulfuric acid, blended with a gust of wind—that would be impossible to spot! In a fight between Martial Artists, your opponent wouldn’t dare close their eyes no matter how hard the wind blows. If just one drop got in... now *that’s* a hidden killing blow!"

The old professor: ...

’I often feel that because I’m too much of an academic, I can’t keep up with the thinking of the Slaughter Sect...’

He quickly interrupted, "Ahem, Yang, we don’t need to discuss practical applications today. We’re only talking about theory... only theory..."

Having finally steered the conversation back to familiar territory, the old professor regained some of his composure.

"Returning to theory, why do Innate Martial Artists generally have to study Martial Arts techniques? Because the process of studying them is the process of trying to discover ’Source.’ It can be considered preparatory work for entering the True Gang realm."

"Once you enter the True Gang Realm, moving forward is no longer just about accumulating Qi and Blood Value. It tests a Martial Artist’s control over Source... and the prerequisite for control is ’sensing the Source’."

"Many people get stuck at this step and can’t advance an inch for the rest of their lives."

While trying to swing the long spear and simulate the Spiritual Qi circulation for ’Wind Return’, Yang Shen nodded.

’Go on,’ he thought. ’I’m listening.’

Seeing that Yang Shen was already trying to imitate him, the old professor smiled and stroked his beard, not rushing him.

A few minutes passed, and every one of Yang Shen’s swings was still just a normal Basic Attack. The professor finally spoke up. "No need to rush. Let me continue with the theory... Theoretical knowledge is what’s most important."

Yang Shen suddenly spoke. "Professor, hold on a second. I feel like something is missing."

After speaking, his gaze suddenly changed, becoming filled with killing intent.

Without any warning, he stabbed out fiercely into the empty practice area.

Tiny red lightning bolts spread from the spear tip, as if shattering space itself.

A sharp hum made the air itself feel scorched.

Yang Shen directly unleashed an "Overlapping Waves." The sound, like a string of firecrackers, drew the attention of the regular students in the distance, but they couldn’t see what had happened.

Feeling the "Source" within him now active and mobilized to a certain extent, the newly buffed Yang Shen frowned slightly and once again mimicked the old professor’s earlier action.

"HUMMM..."

A tiny, finger-length crescent formed as Yang Shen swung the spear, but it dissipated after flying only a single meter.

Yang Shen frowned slightly. ’That weak?’

’What went wrong? Sigh... I guess I really do need to take things one step at a time.’

"Professor, my apologies. I just had a flash of inspiration. Please continue, theoretical knowledge is the most important thing. So, what’s next?"

The old professor: ...

"I was about to say... practice is even more important than theory... let’s continue training. I’ll show you a few variations of ’Wind Return’."

————

It had to be said that Martial Arts techniques truly enriched the entire framework of the Martial Arts Side.

And they gave him immense inspiration.

In the old professor’s hands, Wind Return wasn’t just a crescent, but could also transform into a circle around his body to deal with attacks from all directions.

And it could be released during a leap, using the reaction force to enhance hang time.

How it was used, how one found opportunities in a real fight—it all depended on how creatively the user could think.

Still, Yang Shen was convinced that combining it with concentrated sulfuric acid had real potential...

A Martial Artist needs to be cultured, he mused... Well-versed in both literature and chemistry.

After class, Yang Shen headed toward his *Advanced Footwork* class on the other side of campus.

He was close to earning that instructor’s approval, too, which meant he wasn’t far from getting permission to practice the techniques... and he was in the same class as Zhuzi.

Traveling at 60 km/h, he crossed more than half the campus in just a few minutes. Stadium 13 was an indoor facility, and it was clearly showing its age.

It had a style that felt fifty years out of date, with mottled, yellowing walls. Its overall structure wasn’t the circular layout of a modern stadium, but rather a square exterior with a circular interior.

Yang Shen confirmed his direction and was just about to go in and look for Zhuzi when he saw a familiar figure to the side.

It was the senior student from the ’stocking incident’...

The senior student walked all the way to the side of a small, old building, looked around cautiously, and then entered a completely unremarkable door...

Yang Shen didn’t pay it any mind at first and continued on, but after a few steps, he thoughtfully circled back...

He recalled the first time he met them, their "nighttime part-time job" situation.

A little curious, Yang Shen walked into that small path.

Almost no one ever came to the side of Stadium 8. Among a row of old iron doors, the one the senior had entered was slightly special.

There was a moon symbol on the door...
