Chapter 357 - Attacking

As the designated battlefields for the war game, the ruined city used by the Apollo familia and the fortress assigned to the Ishtar familia were not all that far apart.

One was an ancient ruin left over from antiquity, while the other was a former stronghold built by bandits.

At the speed of a high tier adventurer, traveling from one location to the other would take an hour at most.

Of course, the guild had put considerable effort into setting up this contest.

Beyond spending immense thought on selecting proper grounds, they had also cleared out a wave of bandits along the way.

"Mahiro, should we head to the Apollo familia castle first?" Ais asked, stopping alongside him as they made their way forward.

Conventionally, it made the most sense to deal with the weaker Apollo familia first, take a short rest to recuperate, and then challenge the far more formidable Ishtar familia.

Ais assumed that would be their strategy.

"There is no need to worry about which side to target first," Mahiro said with a light chuckle.

"Traveling to either location individually wastes too much time, so I decided it would be better to finish off both at once."

"Finish off both at once?" Ais tilted her head, confusion written across her lovely features.

Even if the distance between the two strongholds was relatively short, it was by no means close.

Not even Riveria, widely praised as the strongest mage in Orario, could cast high tier magic capable of bombarding two distant locations simultaneously.

"To be honest, I have been wanting to test this out for a few days," Mahiro replied with a calm smile.

He raised a hand, gathering tiny sparks of light at his fingertips as magic power began to condense.

"I simply lacked a suitable opportunity, but today seems like the perfect chance to try this new spell."

"A new spell?" Ais looked at him in mild surprise, her curiosity thoroughly piqued.

Instead of answering verbally, Mahiro let his actions speak for him.

"So..."

Mahiro began his chant, though his voice sounded completely different from usual.

A deep, heavy tone echoed from his lips, sounding as though it resonated from across a vast expanse of time and space.

"Mahiro?" Ais stared at him.

The sound seemed almost non-human, echoing like something constructed by strange machinery.

As his fingers traced through the air, unknown runic words manifested in the void, glowing with an enigmatic luster.

Without a doubt, he was chanting magic.

Yet it was utterly distinct from any chant structure Ais had ever witnessed.

A sudden streak of thunder cracked across the sky. Ais looked up, her gaze meeting an astonishing sight.

Meanwhile, Hyakinthos, sat upright upon a throne situated in the heart of the settlement.

He gazed out through a window at the streets packed with his fellow members.

This conflict took the form of a siege battle lasting three days.

The victory conditions were clear: if Hyakinthos, acting as the commander, survived for three days, or if Mahiro, the sole combatant on the enemy side, was rendered unable to fight, victory would belong to the Apollo familia.

Conversely, if Mahiro breached the city and defeated the enemy commander, the Hestia familia would claim victory.

Given those terms, Hyakinthos stared out the window with an expression full of hatred.

"Is there any activity outside the walls?" Hyakinthos asked the subordinate standing near him.

"None. We have not spotted a single soul," a veteran adventurer of the Apollo familia replied.

"That guy’s strength is absurd. Under normal circumstances, he should still be on his way here, but we cannot afford to lower our guard," Hyakinthos said, his tone utterly severe.

He had long abandoned any trace of contempt for Mahiro, treating him as a grave threat.

Despite officially being a level 2, Mahiro had power capable of rivaling a level 4 or even a level 5.

He completely shattered every established norm among adventurers.

Measuring him by standard logic would only lead to ruin, making constant vigilance mandatory.

"If Mahiro wants to win, his best option is to infiltrate the city, hunt me down by any means necessary, and knock me off this throne," Hyakinthos analyzed.

For that very reason, Hyakinthos kept nearly half of the familia forces stationed directly around his throne.

The remaining members patrolled the streets and outer walls, creating a heavily fortified defense.

The settlement was not particularly large, but it was still an entire city.

Guarding an entire town with barely over a hundred troops was an overwhelming task, which was why Hyakinthos concentrated the main force near his location.

If Mahiro appeared, they would simply overwhelm him with raw numbers.

"Rest assured, Captain," another veteran adventurer spoke up.

"We have posted patrols along the entire perimeter. The moment anyone approaches, we will spot them."

"We cannot lose this battle," Hyakinthos replied with a grim expression.

"For the glory of Lord Apollo, we must crush Mahiro and settle the score for all the humiliation we suffered over the past few days."

Hyakinthos was one of the few members of the Apollo familia who truly revered Apollo from the depths of his heart. Consequently, Apollo’s fascination with Mahiro had filled Hyakinthos with intense jealousy and hatred from the start, viewing Mahiro as a romantic rival he desperately wanted to eliminate.

Reminded of his previous defeat and humiliation at Mahiro’s hands, Hyakinthos trembled with anger, longing for a chance to unleash his pent-up fury.

"I will never forgive you, Mahiro..."

Suddenly, an overwhelming surge of dread struck Hyakinthos causing his face to freeze.

"Captain!" a veteran adventurer shouted in terror, pointing toward the sky outside. "Look over there!"

Hyakinthos turned his gaze outward almost instinctively, and his eyes widened at what he saw.

The sky, which had been bright and clear moments ago, suddenly filled with heavy, churning dark clouds.

Within that storm, jagged arcs of lightning leaped frantically like boiling water, and even across the vast distance, the deafening rumble of thunder echoed with heart stopping intensity.
