At that moment, the instincts of every beast below began to scream. Some had already turned and fled, driven by nothing but primal instinct.

But it was already too late...

The brilliant blue star in the sky shone with blinding radiance before a colossal superheated beam erupted from the cannon barrel and descended upon the earth.

What followed in the next moment was...

Utter and complete annihilation.

Like the wrath of the heavens made manifest, the beam carved through the valley with unstoppable force. Everything it touched simply ceased to exist. Flesh, bone, stone, trees, and even the earth itself burned, disintegrated, and vanished into incandescent light, leaving not even ash behind.

The overwhelming heat swept across the battlefield like an invisible tidal wave. Even from a few hundred meters away, the warriors on the walls instinctively raised their arms to shield their faces while frantically circulating spiritual qi to resist the scorching temperature.

Some of the weaker warriors threw themselves behind the battlements, hoping the shade of the stone would provide them with shelter from the heat.

The beam slowly swept across the valley toward the rear ranks of the beast tide.

Then... the panic erupted.

Countless fierce beasts abandoned all reason as they desperately tried to escape. They clawed over one another, trampled their own allies beneath their feet, and tore apart anything that blocked their path.

Their instincts told them only one thing.

To run... To survive...

To survive this existential threat that was about to destroy them.

The Stone Skin Rhinoceros, whose body was as massive as a small mountain, immediately turned and fled with all its might.

But it was still too slow... and far, far too late.

The beam caught up to it in an instant.

Its hind legs disappeared first.

The burning phase lasted no more than a single breath before they disintegrated and vanished in the blinding blue light of judgment.

The destruction continued upward through its colossal body without slowing in the slightest. The beast let out a deafening scream that shook the valley, but even that cry was abruptly cut short as its torso, neck, and finally its head vanished into the pillar of light.

Nothing... remained...

The defenders stood frozen.

No one cheered... No one celebrated.

They simply watched as the terrifying and unstoppable force of annihilation before them erased the beast tide like an efficient machine.

The vanguard of the beast tide that had threatened to overwhelm the walls only moments ago was disappearing before their eyes.

It was too efficient. This looked less like a battle and more like a slaughterhouse.

The pillar of light dragged across the earth, carving an enormous trench through the valley as though a god had drawn a line across the world itself.

The beam continued for several more minutes, advancing relentlessly as millions of fierce beasts vanished in its path. No matter how desperately they fled, none could outrun the slow but inevitable advance of the pillar of judgment.

Only after the energy within the cannon barrel was finally exhausted did the light begin to fade.

The once red-hot barrel gradually dimmed, while the land below had been split apart, leaving behind a colossal scar stretching across the valley.

Half of the beast tide... no... more than half of it was...

Obliterated in a single attack.

Buried beneath the red-hot molten trench left behind by the beam.

The floating fortress remained suspended in the sky, silently drifting toward the defensive line as though it had always belonged there, watching over the battlefield like an unfeeling machine.

"What... what the hell was that?" Ximen Hao uttered in disbelief as he stared at the floating fortress in awe.

"Was that... yours?" he asked, pointing at the floating fortress.

No... now that he looked at it more closely, it wasn’t really a floating island. It looked more like a sphere, a perfectly symmetrical sphere forged from some kind of metal.

"Yeah... you could call that my fortress. I live there from time to time," Wei Chen said proudly.

As expected of a Walmart Death Star... no, a mini Death Star. The firepower was so satisfying.

Ximen Hao nodded. He could only nod, overwhelmed by the indescribable feeling of witnessing such a scene of absolute annihilation.

At this moment, Ximen Hao was not the only one standing in awe. Every warrior who had witnessed the scene was left speechless.

As for Dream Butterfly, she was only stunned for a brief moment before understanding dawned on her, and a faint smile appeared on her face. She categorized this display as the true power of the Underworld Palace. As for Wei Chen, her husband, being the Young Master of the Underworld Palace and the one who wielded such power, it was something she had already expected.

The warriors on the walls and battlements began to cheer and celebrate, but their joy did not last long as a dark cloud rapidly approached from the horizon.

It was a massive flock of flying beasts. This time, the King Beast had dispatched its aerial forces, accompanied by numerous high-ranking beasts.

The proportion of high-ranking beasts was far greater than that of the previous vanguard, which had consisted mostly of cannon fodder. Even so, many of the remaining low-ranking beasts continued charging through the valley across the still-heated ground, where the annihilation beam from the fortress had not completely swept through.

Seeing the enormous swarm of flying beasts, Wei Chen immediately flew into the sky. Dream Butterfly quickly followed behind him.

...

Inside the fortress, Zhang Niu barked command after command as warriors hurriedly manned the various weapon systems throughout the fortress.

Wei Chen, having arrived at the unmodified section along with Dream Butterfly, quickly headed toward the command room where Zhang Niu was stationed.

Along the way, Dream Butterfly looked left and right like a child visiting a bustling marketplace for the first time. Her curiosity was thoroughly piqued by all the strange sights around her.

Whether it was the metallic corridors, the unfamiliar architecture, the bright artificial lights, or the strange circular emblem consisting of a central circle with six spikes radiating outward, all enclosed within a thick outer ring, everything looked both militaristic and strangely imposing.

In a moment, Wei Chen finally arrived at the command center, where a massive screen displayed the target, the enormous cloud of flying beasts advancing straight toward the fortress.

"Ah! Mr. Wei, you’ve arrived at just the right time. We are about to light up the sky," said Zhang Niu, dressed in a British butler suit.

"Alfred, do we have enough ammunition to wipe out these beasts?" Wei Chen asked.

During his downtime, Wei Chen had spent some time in the Underworld managing his assets, including this mini Death Star of his.

It was essentially a fortress packed to the brim with powerful artifact weapons capable of bombing a weak sect in the Immortal Realm back to the Stone Age without requiring any input from a cultivator.

It was the very definition of solving problems with superior firepower, the rule book use by his home country in his previous life.

The downside, however, was that he had to spend a considerable portion of his personal fortune purchasing ammunition and ordnance to keep the fortress operating at full capacity.

For example, that previous annihilation beam had completely burned through the fortress’s entire stockpile of high-grade spirit stones.

Yeah, the firepower was absolutely savage, and so was the cost.

If it hadn’t been for Ximen Hao’s promise of compensation, he would never have used them so recklessly, as if he were flushing money straight down a toilet.

Zhang Niu, also known as Alfred, nodded. "Yes, Mr. Wei. I plan to burn all of them with the Sky Burning Missiles that I just bought from the Underworld Armoury. I heard they’re the newest model."

"Oh? I’m looking forward to seeing them," Wei Chen said. Then he paused, as though he had just remembered something.

"Wait... you didn’t correct me. Have you decided to change your name to Alfred?" Wei Chen asked with a teasing smile.

Alfred merely smiled before handing Wei Chen a familiar book with a bookmark tucked between its pages.

Wei Chen frowned. The book looked very familiar.

It was a Bible.

He opened it to the bookmarked page, where a line had been highlighted with a colored marker.

>> "Do not answer a fool according to his folly, or you yourself will be like him." (Proverbs 26:4)

Wei Chen closed the book and stared at Alfred judgmentally. A dozen questions formed in his mind, but none of them felt appropriate to ask right now.

For example, where had this guy gotten a Bible from? How could he read English? Wasn’t this guy supposed to come from a culture and background similar to ancient China?

But since it wasn’t the right time, Wei Chen could only bottle those questions up.

...

Outside, the cloud of flying beasts drew closer and closer. Leading the swarm was the King Beast, the Heaven Devouring Tiger. It had only recently broken through to the King Beast Realm after seizing the opportunity created when the laws of Heaven and Earth temporarily changed around the Emerald River.
