How To Survive A Cute Ghost Yandere
Chapter 109: Something was opening itselfAugusta Beach had two areas. The first was open to the public, where tourists could come to relax and enjoy their holidays. The other was a private beach reserved for important figures, such as the Imperial family.
Today, the academy students had been given permission to spend their holiday at that beach. So they didn’t have to worry about any suspicious strangers wandering around.
Looking out into the distance, the deep blue sea reflected the color of the sky, stretching wide and beautiful. The sound of the waves never stopped, reaching the shore before pulling back again.
Whoosh...
The golden sand stretched out just as wide. The weather was perfect, making it an ideal day for a holiday.
Far up on the rocky hills stood a massive villa. The students would be staying there for the night.
The beach, rarely used, was now loud and full of life. The students were having fun, and somehow a small volleyball court had already been set up. Some had taken small magic boats out to sea, while others...
Eiros found himself building a miniature sandcastle. Not because he wanted to, but because the others had somehow decided to hold a contest and dragged him into it.
’Ugh... What if there’s an attack? What if there’s an intruder?’
Eiros might have already become overly paranoid. But he was genuinely terrified, and so he couldn’t focus on building his little castle.
In fact, what Eiros had made could hardly be called a castle. It was really just a square mound of sand with a few small cones stuck on top.
Compared to everyone else, he clearly wasn’t even trying.
Across from him, Valkas smirked arrogantly. He was using a drink bottle as a tool, shaping a fairly large castle. Well, in truth, he had only built the castle walls with four towers at each corner.
Meanwhile, Lovia and Alen were creating something nearly identical. But compared to everyone else, the two of them looked like the ones most likely to win this contest. Somehow, both of them were remarkably talented.
Using nothing but beach sand, Lovia had created a castle layered with towers. There were doors and windows, all shaped with precision and a distinct sense of style.
As for Alen?
That was surprising. He had used stones to add texture and reinforce the foundation. It made his castle sturdy, keeping it from cracking apart as the sand began to dry.
Then there were Leiden and Godon, both looking pale. The two of them were dead serious, yet they had barely managed to shape anything at all.
Splash!
"Aaarrghh!! Damn it! This isn’t fair!" Leiden screamed as the crashing waves reached his spot, collapsing his castle - which could barely even be called a castle to begin with.
He was visibly trembling as he glanced at the others, especially Lovia and Alen, who had done such excellent work. Leiden grimaced, bit his lip, and got back to work.
’I will definitely win!’
Then there was Godon.
He shaped the sand, trying to form a sharp enough cone for a tower. But right after,
Craaack!
the sand collapsed.
"Ugh...!"
Godon was a laid-back young man. He didn’t like overreacting unless it touched on something he was sensitive about. He could seem indifferent to his surroundings at times, but in truth, he was someone who valued friendship deeply.
But there was something that mattered even more than friendship. In something as trivial as this, he refused to be beaten, even by his closest friend!
Could he accept losing here?
No!
Could he do something to change that?
No!
"Huh"
’I can do this!’
Godon took a deep breath. He channeled his Soul Essence as slowly as he could and used his Ability Stigmata to adapt to his surroundings.
It took him some time. In the meantime, he kept working on his complicated, ever-collapsing castle, but the next moment, something changed.
His adaptation was complete, and a smirk crept onto his face.
In his hands, damp beach sand appeared out of thin air. Godon glanced around for a moment, feeling sweat trickle down his face, and once he was sure everyone else was busy, he finally began shaping his own castle with extraordinary Control.
Second by second passed, and...
"Done!"
Godon finished what he had made. He smiled in satisfaction as he glanced at the others - some of them were still working - but the moment they heard him, everyone turned to look at Godon’s castle and stared in disbelief.
"Godon...?"
"What? Surprised? This is my work."
Of course they were shocked. But no one would have believed that this was really what Godon had built. It was less a castle than a small fortress, and it was actually standing there before them!
It was even bigger than Godon himself, leaving everyone wondering just what had happened, and how they hadn’t noticed him doing it.
This wasn’t some castle fit only for ants. Even Godon, with his large frame, could step inside a castle spacious enough to fit a grown adult.
"This... th-that’s cheating... You must be cheating! This isn’t fair!" Leiden shouted dramatically, looking like he couldn’t believe Godon had created that in the blink of an eye.
Godon, meanwhile, blinked, then curled his lips into a grin:
"What matters is that I made it better than all of you. That’s more than enough."
Valkas glared at him in irritation, the muscles in his face twitching. Alen, meanwhile, took advantage of the chaos, smiling nervously as he seized the chance to slip away. He tried to find Eiros, only to realize he had already left earlier, heading toward where Renessa was.
"Ahaha~ is that so? I see. I see."
Lovia smiled, her face flushed red, a smile that made Godon shudder in horror, his cheerful expression vanishing in an instant.
"Lovia?"
Lovia didn’t let her smile fade. She took a few breaths, then pointed at Godon.
"Catch that bastard! Don’t let him get away!"
".....!?"
And, of course, if there were a few people especially quick to act here, it was Lovia, Valkas, and Leiden themselves. Seeing the three of them charging straight at him, Godon froze for a moment, then, without meaning to, triggered his ability stigmata, which happened to already be active.
Shlorp!
The sand beneath the three of them turned into a swirling pit of quicksand and swallowed them whole.
"Damn it! I knew he was cheating!"
Lovia screamed in a panic, while on the other side, Valkas managed to save himself. But there was one person who didn’t seem to make it out.
"WAAAHHH!"
Leiden screamed in panic as his head was nearly swallowed whole. Fortunately, Godon noticed in time.
Hummmm...
Elsewhere, low tremors rippled through the empty air, falling upon some remote place. The air itself seemed to shift, and little by little, the area began to warp in a way that defied all reason.
Something was opening itself.
