How To Survive A Cute Ghost Yandere
Chapter 119: You did well with your task"Ugh..."
Godon rubbed his backside, feeling a sharp, stinging heat. He found himself suddenly dropped in the middle of a forest for no clear reason at all. He got up, wincing, his expression darkening as he glanced around.
The ground trembled, and something he didn’t understand was happening right now.
"...Where is everyone?" Since this was probably yet another Terror, just like what had happened during the first-year evaluation, Godon figured he might be able to find his friends nearby.
But all he could see around him was shaking ground, birds screeching in terror, and small animals darting off fast enough to survive in this forest.
"Guess I really do need to find them."
Godon calmed himself, hoping the situation right now wasn’t as bad as what usually happened in the other cities. Besides, wasn’t Estiel, the Tower Keeper himself, supposed to be here?
With Estiel around, what was there to be afraid of?
All he had to do was hold out.
With that thought, Godon got moving. First things first, he needed to check his surroundings and see if anyone else was nearby.
Godon pushed through the underbrush, keeping his footing steady across the still-trembling ground. The forest was thick, full of tall wild grass, with trees rising high all around.
Which made it a bit tricky to move comfortably. Godon considered climbing one of the taller trees to get a wider view, but before he could, he heard a voice he recognized.
A girl’s voice, one he was used to hearing full of energy and cheer. Godon didn’t hesitate — he headed toward it, a smile tugging at his lips, and quickly spotted Lovia.
He was about to call out to her when—
"You did well with your task."
"...?"
Those words made Godon freeze in place, stunned for a moment. He realized Lovia wasn’t alone — she was with a grown woman with green hair and a lazy, unbothered expression.
’Task? What task?’
Godon didn’t overthink it at first. Maybe the woman was just someone Lovia knew, so he decided to wait it out. But his face tightened once he realized this woman was clearly not just some ordinary acquaintance.
Lovia, always so cheerful, looked grim now. Her head was bowed, staring at the ground with a complicated expression, thick with sorrow. One hand gripped her other arm, her nails digging into her own skin.
’...Lovia?’
That made Godon consider stepping in and doing something, right then and there. But he had no idea what the actual situation was — maybe he was just misreading it, or maybe stepping in would only make things worse.
So—
"Don’t make the same mistake again. Remember what your task is, why you’re at the Academy, and how valuable you are to the organization."
’Huh?’
What organization? What task? The Academy?
Godon hid behind the trees, his heart pounding hard, cold sweat trickling down his face as a nervous, forced smile crept onto his lips.
’I hope I don’t get caught.’
Godon hated eavesdropping. He wanted to leave and just wait it out, but this — this he couldn’t just walk away from.
"I know..." Right then, Godon finally heard Lovia’s voice. The way she spoke, her voice lower and softer than usual, her expression so clearly terrified of the woman standing before her.
"You know? Then explain something to me — that little game with your so-called friends. I don’t mind if you focus on your task, but... why would you do that?"
The woman’s gaze grew colder, and she moved to wipe her face, just slightly. It was such a simple gesture, yet Lovia immediately squeezed her eyes shut, her whole body trembling.
Meanwhile, the woman let out a long sigh and spoke again:
"Why did you deliberately withhold the modified cups from all the first-year students?"
Godon didn’t know exactly when it happened, but his face turned dark, unable to believe what he was hearing. His eyes trembled as he stared at Lovia, a tangle of emotions crossing his face.
’That can’t be true... Right, it definitely isn’t.’
He tried to convince himself of that, but...
"It’s because they were helpless," Lovia answered, her lip bleeding where her own teeth had bitten into it. Her eyes looked clear, determined, as she stared back at the woman. "They couldn’t even activate their stigmata... So... Just let me—"
Lovia stopped short, her mouth clamping shut the moment the woman reached for something in her pocket. She didn’t pull it out — her hand simply stayed there, tucked inside — and in the next instant, Lovia’s face went completely pale as she tried to speak.
"N-no... Wait—"
"I don’t recall you ever having the authority to make your own decisions."
The woman cut her off. Then Lovia, who had seemed fine just a moment ago, suddenly began trembling where she stood, her face draining of all color, her hand rising to clutch her own head.
Then she screamed, a sound so anguished it made Godon’s breathing quicken. His breath came short and unsteady, sweat soaking through his entire body.
’I have to... I have to do something...’
But what?
Fight the woman?
That would be idiotic. Godon had no idea how high her Soul Tier was, and more importantly, he wasn’t even sure whether he should be getting involved at all right now.
Everything was clear enough to piece together into a conclusion. Based on what the woman had said, the mention of the modified cups, and how Godon himself had ended up teleported here.
If Lovia had gone through the exact same thing, then she should have been just as confused as everyone else. But instead of confusion, Lovia hadn’t looked surprised at all — she’d simply been talking to someone, making herself look thoroughly suspicious in the process.
Just like when Godon had asked her earlier about working so diligently that day. Hadn’t Lovia looked startled back then too, as if she’d been caught red-handed doing something wrong?
At this point. If — if Lovia really was some kind of spy monitoring the first-year students, and had deliberately sent them into a place like this...
What was Godon supposed to do?
He had no solid proof. But that wasn’t even the real problem — the real problem was Lovia herself. What should he do? Should he stop her? Should he kill her before there were too many casualties? Or should he tell the others?
Killing was a thought so far removed from anything he could imagine. How could he even think something like that?
Godon cursed his own mind, biting his lip, a storm of emotion twisting inside him.
’No. Think.’
Godon forced his brain to work. First, Lovia had clearly looked afraid of that woman. Rather than doing any of this out of her own free will, Lovia had looked coerced, threatened. He had no idea what organization she belonged to, but if he could try to figure out the reason behind it...
’Right, I need to confirm this first.’
Nothing was certain yet. There was still hope for Lovia — right, Lovia would never betray them. And if it really was true, then there had to be some good reason behind it, didn’t there?
Something like... sacrificing herself for a friend, for family, something along those lines.
Godon forced himself to believe it, drilling the thought into his own head, even as his trust in her began to crack, even as what he’d heard left him aching inside. He held it all down and forced a smile.
’This isn’t over yet.’
There had to be something more to it.
By then, Lovia had been left alone. She stood there, silent and lost in thought, saying nothing, then finally started walking off toward somewhere.
Godon steadied his ragged breathing, feeling his throat catch a few times, then stepped forward and followed after Lovia.
