"Excuse me, what?" Rigel asked, hoping he had misheard.
Calypso shrugged, not at all bothered by Rigel trying to avoid the subject. She, on the other hand, knew how charismatic Rigel could be, especially when he sang. He was going to a school full of girls his age, and what if one of them fell in love with him?
She wouldn't take that risk.
Rigel belonged to her!
Fortunately, Calypso couldn't let her divine power escape, or the sea would have been churned by her mood swings.
"You heard." She said simply.
Rigel pursed his lips, the two stared at each other for a long moment, Rigel finally closed his eyes and rubbed his temples, asking. "Why?"
"You know why." She replied again, rolling her eyes at him.
Silence returned. Rigel opened his eyes and stared at her for a long moment before speaking. "You know I'm only 11 years old, right?"
"It's not like I'm asking you to marry me right now." She rolled her eyes at him. In reality, the answer she wanted to give was: So what? If you weren't so annoyingly attached to this, I'd already want to be married have a 'big belly!'
Rigel understood the meaning of her phrase, the use of 'now' was quite direct regarding the future. Rigel decided not to think about it now. She wanted the title of fiancée? So be it. It wasn't as if he was really going to be forced to marry her, and besides, if it kept the other girls away, it would be very useful.
Rigel didn't dislike women, but for him, women weren't on his list of priorities anytime soon, in fact, being followed by them would be inconvenient. Besides, the girls who would be attracted to him at Hogwarts would all be children. What should he do? Hit on the professors?
Of course, he couldn't let that go easily, she wanted it from him, so she needed to reciprocate. "Fine, but in return, no public displays of affection, including hugs and kisses, mostly kisses, even from a distance."
Calypso pouted.
Clearly displeased, but seeing Rigel's indifferent gaze, she sighed and agreed, well, it was worth it to keep the hags away from Rigel.
Rigel picked up a piece of paper and began to write down the necessary aspects for Calypso's identity, something that made sense, something that couldn't be easily traced, but still left no doubt about her 'noble' lineage.
Rigel remembered his family's genealogical tree, which Walburga had made him memorize several times, and he remembered someone, Mary Black.
[A/N: The following content is only loosely based on reality. Mary Black really existed, I found her name while searching for black witches in history, found it interesting, and adapted it to this world. But except for the name and a bit of her introduction, the rest is fictional.]
Mary Black, one of the women accused of witchcraft in Salem, was an enslaved African American woman belonging to the influential Putnam family. She was arrested and interrogated under strong suspicion, but her own owner defended her innocence. She survived and was released from prison after months of detention.
In reality, Mary Black was indeed a descendant of the Black family that migrated to the United States, she never married or had children while she was alive, but Rigel could easily change that.
What better way to prove lineage than through the blood of the Black family?
As for proving she's a Black through Rigel's blood? It's been 400 years since then, even a magical examination would hardly show any connection to the Blacks of that era.
[A/N: Typically, it takes 5 to 8 generations for autosomal DNA (DNA from common ancestry) to no longer show clear or detectable connections between two people. This represents a period of approximately 150 to 200 years. Let's just assume that more common magical tests can't see that far.]
Having found a starting point, Rigel decided that when he returned home, he would look for the witch family tree book and choose some people from the old witch families who had no children and use them, especially those from families that had become extinct.
Leaving that aside, he began to note other aspects, regarding Calypso's previous residence and education. He had chosen Andorra, a country situated between France and Spain. Technically, all wizards from that part of Europe should have been invited to Beauxbatons, but Rigel knew that many wizards chose home educations in these smaller countries, although they still needed to register with one of the nearby ministries, things like education could depend entirely on the parents.
In the future, if they wanted to pursue a magical career, they needed to take specific proficiency exams for it, just like selling potions. Not only was an exam required to become a "potion master", but they also needed business licenses, it was a tedious bureaucracy. Fortunately, all of that could be sorted out by the Identity Card.
This card was truly a "cheat", if it weren't for the fact that Calypso would be very useful to him, Rigel would want to keep it for himself.
He had already questioned the book, to receive rewards like the Identity Card and World Sources, the mission not only needed to be completed, but to far exceed expectations. Besides, these were only two of the possibilities, there were even better things to come.
This left Rigel, who had hoped to use one of the Adventure worlds to focus on learning magic, speechless for a moment. He could only put it aside for now, perhaps he would find a world where adventure wasn't convenient to complete, or maybe he simply didn't enjoy it.
Rigel began to consider other aspects of Calypso's identity, Calypso's age also needed to be defined. The woman rejuvenated in front of Rigel, choosing to appear as a woman in her late teens, she even asked Rigel to give her that age. This left Rigel, who wanted to add a few years of experience to her, speechless.
However, she technically studied at home, he could add whatever references he wanted during that time, such as caring for dragons when she was 14 at a dragon farm in Romania, learning from a French potion master at 15, helping him in his shop, at 16 she spent a year in the secluded environment of Albania doing research, at 17 she went on an expedition to study magical marine life, meeting various clans of mermaids.
He took the French Ministry exams in the most common subjects and got at least an O in all of them, even getting an E in potions, DADA, and care of magical creatures.
Calypso spoke most common languages and had been to many parts of the world, although she rarely left the sea. This greatly helped build her 'resume' of world travels, and Calypso contributed significantly by talking about the places she had visited.
She would need to practice alone for a while, but judging by her magical talent, in a year she could reach Hogwarts graduation level, maybe even higher. Simply managing to conjure the Patronus would already give her high points in DADA.
Finally, he decided that her parents, two scholars of magical creatures, had received a letter from Walburga shortly before the woman's death, when Rigel was only 5 years old and she was 12, confirming their engagement, only for her parents to die when she was 13, eaten by acromantulas.
Rigel would deal with the rest of the content when he got home, he would need to study the family trees he had access to extensively. Unfortunately, there was no magical Google, but fortunately, pure-blood wizards loved to show off their ancestry, so there were specific books for that purpose.
Sighing, Calypso really liked this identity in the end.
Rigel left Calypso on Ragnarok, far from the English coast and off the radar of the Ministry of Magic. He returned alone by the same route, he could use the ship's teleportation to return at any time, but the journey there was still a problem. He thought he should take some time to learn how to Apparate using the coffin's power, so there would be no risks.
Sure, even if he could apparate, with the trace on him, he couldn't really apparate around on his own, but even so, in adventure worlds, being able to apparate would be incredibly useful.
