The four hunters remained where they stood.
The boss's hand rested casually on the hilt of his sword.
Kael's hand rested on his own.
Neither moved.
The axeman suddenly stepped forward.
"Boss."
The boss glanced at him.
"Let me handle him."
He lifted the massive axe from the ground.
"I don't have patience for this."
Kael looked at him.
Then at the enormous axe.
He said nothing.
The axeman stepped closer.
"Let's see if you can still stand after I hit you."
Kael drew his sword.
"We'll see."
The axeman suddenly charged.
The ground cracked beneath his feet.
He swung the axe in a wide horizontal arc.
Kael stepped backward.
The blade tore through the space where his chest had been and smashed into a tree.
BOOM!
The trunk split.
The axeman ripped the weapon free and swung again.
Kael ducked.
The axe passed over his head.
Another swing.
Kael shifted left.
Another.
Right.
The weapon was heavy, but every strike carried enough force to kill him if it connected.
Kael watched carefully.
His feet.
His hips.
The movement of his hands.
The axeman suddenly stopped.
A feint.
The axe came upward.
Kael jumped back as the blade tore through the ground beneath him.
The axeman grinned.
"Got you."
Kael landed several steps away.
The axeman charged again.
This time, Kael moved toward him.
His right foot stepped forward.
His body leaned to the left.
The axeman adjusted his swing.
Kael's weight shifted.
His left foot planted.
His body prepared to cut sharply in the opposite direction.
Mirage Step.
But before Kael could complete the movement—
CLANG!
Two daggers suddenly crossed in front of him.
His sword was knocked aside.
The dagger hunter had moved.
He stood between Kael and the axeman.
Kael's eyes narrowed.
The dagger hunter grinned.
"Who said we're fighting fair?"
Kael stared at him for a moment.
Then his expression hardened.
So they were fighting together.
The axeman stepped closer.
The dagger hunter lowered his blades.
Kael tightened his grip.
The fight had just changed.
