Hunt Race

Chapter 152: A Little Luck

Kael sat on the edge of his bed, turning the black token between his fingers.

He had been staring at it for several minutes.

No matter how he turned it, nothing happened.

Kael pressed his thumb against the surface.

Still nothing.

He frowned.

"How am I supposed to use this thing?"

A voice came from behind him.

"You're holding it wrong."

Kael looked over his shoulder.

Darius stood near the doorway.

Kael glanced back at the token.

"I was holding it?"

Darius walked over and held out his hand.

"Give it to me."

Kael handed him the token.

Darius turned it over once, then pointed toward the center.

"These tokens respond to mana. You don't force the technique out of them. You activate the seal."

Kael watched closely.

Darius placed his thumb against the center of the token and slowly pushed a small amount of mana into it.

The black surface immediately lit up.

Thin lines appeared across the token, forming a complicated pattern before a faint glow spread through the room.

Kael's eyes followed every movement.

Darius released his mana.

The glow disappeared.

"That's it?"

"For you, yes."

Darius handed it back.

Kael looked at the token.

"How do I get the technique?"

"Activate it while holding it against your forehead."

Kael raised an eyebrow.

"My forehead?"

Darius nodded.

"The token will transfer the technique directly into your mind. It may feel uncomfortable."

"How uncomfortable?"

Darius considered the question.

"Like having someone pour information directly into your head."

Kael stared at him.

"That doesn't sound comfortable at all."

"It isn't."

Kael sighed.

"Great."

He placed the token against his forehead.

Then he injected his mana into it.

The black token immediately lit up.

A sudden stream of information rushed into his mind.

Kael's expression tightened.

For a moment, images flashed through his thoughts—movements, mana circulation, the structure of the technique, and the precise timing required to activate it.

Then everything stopped.

The token went dark.

Kael lowered his hand slowly.

He remained silent for a few seconds.

Darius watched him.

"Well?"

Kael blinked.

"I think I understand it."

Darius nodded.

"You should be able to use the basic form immediately."

Kael looked down at the token.

"So that's how these things work."

"Most technique tokens."

Kael looked up.

"Most?"

"Some are more complicated."

Kael nodded slowly.

He slipped the token into his pocket.

Then Darius spoke again.

"You're rather lucky."

Kael glanced at him.

"Lucky?"

Darius folded his arms.

"Not every Hunter is born with an ability."

Kael listened.

"Even among Bronze Hunters, ability users are uncommon. Most Hunters at that level rely on their bodies, mana, weapons, and learned techniques."

Darius paused.

"So seeing a Bronze Hunter with an ability is already unusual."

Kael nodded.

Darius continued.

"And somehow, you've managed to cooperate with two of them."

Kael raised an eyebrow.

"Two?"

"Leon."

Darius looked at him.

"And Cherry."

Kael's expression remained calm, but he nodded.

Darius continued.

"Both are Bronze Hunters, and both possess abilities."

Kael leaned back slightly.

"I never really thought about it."

"

Darius glanced at the token in Kael's hand.

"But it is unusual."

Kael turned the token over again.

"Does having an ability make someone stronger than other Hunters?"

"Not necessarily."

Darius shook his head.

"An ability is only another tool. What matters is how the Hunter develops it."

Kael thought about that.

"So someone with a powerful ability can still be weak?"

"Of course."

"And someone with a simple ability can become strong?"

Darius nodded.

"If they understand how to use it."

Kael was quiet for a moment.

Then he looked at Darius.

"So what kind of ability did you have when you were a Bronze Hunter?"
