Chapter 155: The Mark

Darius looked at Kael for a moment after hearing the question.

"What about my Mark?"

His expression became slightly more serious.

"That's the part I know the least about."

Kael frowned.

"You don't know anything?"

"I know what I've seen."

Darius moved toward the table and sat down.

"And what I've seen is enough to tell me that your Mark isn't a normal ability."

Kael looked at his palm.

The black crescent rested quietly against his skin.

"I've discovered a few things it can do."

"I know."

Kael looked up.

Darius continued.

"Your Mark reacts to blood."

Kael nodded.

"When I draw blood from someone, something happens."

"Explain it."

Kael thought for a moment.

"There is a connection between me and the person I've wounded. I can feel it."

Darius listened carefully.

"And what can you do through that connection?"

Kael hesitated.

"I can take something from them."

Darius's eyes narrowed.

"Something?"

"Speed. Stamina."

Kael paused.

"I'm not sure what else yet."

Darius remained silent for a moment.

"How much can you take?"

"I don't know."

"How long does it last?"

"I'm not sure."

Darius nodded slowly.

"Then you haven't discovered its limits."

Kael looked at his palm.

"I've used it several times."

"And you're still alive."

Darius's tone was completely serious.

"That's a good start."

Kael gave him a look.

"You're really bad at reassuring people."

"I'm not trying to reassure you."

Kael sighed.

Darius continued.

"That's what concerns me."

Kael looked back at him.

"You have an ability that appears to evolve as you use it, but you don't know why it changes or what determines its next function."

Kael remained silent.

Darius pointed toward his palm.

"First, it allowed you to interfere with someone after drawing their blood. Then you discovered Blood Reinforcement."

Kael nodded.

"It happened after the Silver beast."

"Exactly."

Darius leaned back.

"That means the Mark may have more functions you haven't discovered yet."

Kael's eyes narrowed.

"So you think it will keep changing?"

"I think it's possible."

Darius paused.

"But don't assume every change will benefit you."

Kael considered that.

"What do you mean?"

"You've been fortunate so far."

Darius's expression hardened slightly.

"But an ability that changes according to circumstances can also develop in ways you don't expect."

Kael looked down at his palm again.

The black crescent looked completely harmless.

Yet he knew better.

Darius continued.

"You need to understand its limits before you start relying on it."

Kael nodded.

"My swordsmanship and techniques come first."

"Good."

Darius leaned back in his chair.

"The Mark should be another weapon in your arsenal, not the foundation of your strength."

Kael was quiet for several seconds.

Then he remembered something.

"The Mark also reacted to something else."

Darius looked at him.

"What?"

"During my fight with the Silver beast."

Kael's expression became thoughtful.

"There was a strange aura around its blood. The Mark reacted to it."

Darius's eyes narrowed.

"How?"

"It absorbed something."

Darius didn't speak.

Kael continued.

"I don't fully understand what happened, but afterward, the Mark felt different."

Darius studied him carefully.

"Did you feel anything unusual afterward?"

"Not immediately."

Kael looked at his palm.

"But later, Blood Reinforcement came naturally to me."

Darius nodded slowly.

"Then the connection is worth remembering."

Kael raised an eyebrow.

"You're not going to tell me what it means?"

"I don't know what it means."

Kael sighed.

"Of course."

Darius ignored him.

"What I can tell you is this: don't force the Mark to evolve."

Kael looked at him.

"Why?"

"Because you don't know what it will cost."

That made Kael pause.

Darius's voice remained calm.

"Use what you understand. Learn what you don't. But don't deliberately put yourself in danger just to discover another function."

Kael nodded.

He looked at his palm one more time before closing his hand.

Then a thought crossed his mind.

"If I keep using the Mark..."

Kael raised his eyes toward Darius.

"Can I eventually control exactly what it takes from someone?"
