Chapter 190: The Lesson

Kael's hand immediately went to his neck as he felt the warmth of his own blood. He stared at the dagger in Darius's hand, his expression turning serious.

Darius calmly wiped the blood from the blade before sheathing it.

“This is my lesson,” Darius said. “You didn't even see the attack coming.”

Kael remained silent.

Darius leaned back in his chair and picked up his tea as if nothing had happened.

“This is something I want you to learn.”

Kael's eyes remained fixed on him.

“The greatest assassin is the one who can cut your throat while smiling in your face.”

Darius took a slow sip of his tea.

“You won't sense any killing intent.”

Kael's expression hardened as he listened.

“One moment, you might be sitting with someone, drinking tea or having fun,” Darius continued calmly. “Then the next moment, you won't even know how you died.”

The courtyard fell silent.

Kael lowered his hand from his neck and looked at the blood on his fingers.

Darius placed his cup back on the table.

“Never let your surroundings decide when you should lower your guard.”

Kael stared at him for a few seconds before wiping the blood away.

“I understand.”

Darius gave him a faint smile.

“Good.”

Kael picked up his tea again, but this time, his eyes never left Darius.

Darius chuckled. “Why the serious expression? I don't bite.”

Kael simply stared back at him without blinking.

Darius shrugged with a big grin. “Suits yourself.”

He took another sip of tea before looking at Kael. “Have you gotten your equipment ready for your anonymous trip tomorrow?”

Darius struggled to keep a straight face as he said it.

Kael gave him a thoughtful look. “Yes. I got my blade back today. I don't think I'll need anything else.”

Darius casually reached into his sleeve and pulled out the dagger he had just used.

He tossed it toward Kael.

“Take this. It might come in handy.”

Kael caught the dagger and inspected it carefully. His expression changed when he sensed the quality of the weapon.

“But... this is Silver Grade.”

“Yes. Just take it as a gift from me,” Darius said, yawning.

Kael looked at the dagger once more before standing and giving Darius a slight bow.

“Thanks.”

Darius waved him off. “No need. It's useless to me anyway. Just do me a favor and don't die.”

Kael paused at the entrance before glancing back at him.

“I'll try not to.”

Darius chuckled as Kael walked away, the Silver Grade dagger now resting securely at his side.
