Kael entered Darius's courtyard carrying a small tray. He placed it on the table before taking the seat across from him.
Darius glanced at the tray and chuckled. “You came prepared.”
Kael poured the tea into both cups before pushing one toward Darius. “I’ll be gone for some days.”
Darius accepted the cup. “Where to?”
Kael sat back in his chair. “I'm going on an escort mission.”
Darius stared at him with a blank expression. “Who are you escorting?”
Kael replied slowly, “About that... I don't know yet.”
Darius raised an eyebrow. “What do you mean?”
“Well, a friend of mine is actually dragging me along with her,” Kael said with a bored look.
Darius laughed. “So you are getting dragged along?”
“Yes,” Kael replied with a sad expression.
Darius stared at him with an amused look. “So you don't even know the details of the mission?”
“I only know it's an escort mission, and it's tomorrow,” Kael replied.
Darius chuckled. “You could have refused.”
Kael's expression became even more miserable. “Basically, I don't think my little house can survive Full Moon from her.”
Darius raised an eyebrow. “Full Moon?”
Kael's expression changed slightly, a hint of fear appearing on his face. “It's a palm technique that happened to end a Silver Rank.”
Darius's eyes gained a trace of interest. “Wow. Not bad. She must be strong.”
“Yes. Much stronger than me,” Kael replied honestly.
Darius looked at him curiously. “Then why does she need you around?”
Kael placed his cup down and looked at Darius with a serious expression. “Well, her words were, ‘You're either going to be my plaything or serve as my bodyguard.’”
Darius immediately coughed, trying to hide his laughter.
“Sorry...” He coughed again. “Sorry.”
Kael stared at him with a serious expression. “Why are you laughing?”
Darius finally lost the battle and burst into laughter. “Hahaha! Why are you making that face? At least you're not going to do much of anything. Hahaha!”
“I'm not interested in being anyone's plaything,” Kael said with a shrug.
“Tell that to Full Moon when it hits your house tomorrow,” Darius replied while laughing.
Kael rolled his eyes. “Seriously? You're not helping. I didn't come here so that you can make fun of me.”
Darius slowly stopped laughing and cleared his throat. “Okay... sorry.”
He leaned back and took another sip of his tea before looking at Kael.
“So, what do you want exactly?”
Kael thought for a moment before answering. “Well, any advice or something before I leave?”
Darius took another sip of his tea.
Instead of answering, he raised his cup toward Kael.
“Cheers.”
Kael looked at him for a moment before raising his own cup to meet it.
The two cups moved toward each other.
Just before they touched, Darius released his cup.
A dagger flipped into his hand from his sleeve.
His movement was so smooth that there was barely any warning.
With a fluid motion, Darius thrust the dagger straight toward Kael's throat.
Kael's body reacted a moment too late.
The blade stopped against his neck.
A thin line of blood appeared beneath it, and a drop slowly rolled down his skin before falling onto the dagger.
