FWIP!
Three knives burst toward her from the front.
At the same instant—
The vice leader's axe roared in from her right.
He grinned.
"Forgot about me?"
She turned sharply from her left, drawing her short sword in the same motion.
CLANG!
The blade struck the side of the vice leader's axe, misdirecting the swing.
His eyes widened.
He tried to correct its path.
He couldn't.
The three incoming knives crashed into the broad face of the axe.
CLANG!
CLANG!
CLANG!
The impact exploded through his arms.
His grip broke.
The axe flew from his hands.
Before he could react—
Her bow was already in her hand.
An arrow rested against the string.
She smiled.
"Gale Shot."
THWANG!
The arrow exploded from the bowstring.
The vice leader's pupils shrank.
At that distance...
There was nowhere to dodge.
The arrow pierced straight through his chest.
BOOM!
A violent gust erupted behind him.
Leaves and dust exploded into the air.
His body froze.
Blood dripped from the corner of his mouth.
He slowly looked down.
A fist-sized hole had been torn through his chest.
His lips parted.
No sound came out.
His knees buckled.
THUD!
His body struck the ground.
Silence.
The forest became still.
Not a single leaf moved.
Kael stared at the corpse.
The vice leader...
Was dead.
She lowered her bow.
Her eyes never left the man standing ahead.
He looked at the body lying on the ground.
His expression never changed.
Several seconds passed.
Without a word...
He slid the remaining knives back into the sheaths at his waist.
Click.
Click.
Click.
THWANG!
Another arrow shot toward him.
SHHK!
The arrow split cleanly into two.
The two halves flew past him, embedding themselves into separate trees.
Only then...
His hand settled on the hilt of the longsword at his waist.
SHING!
The blade slid free.
The polished steel caught the afternoon light.
He gave it a slow, casual swing.
WHOOSH.
The tip of the blade lowered toward the ground.
His eyes met hers.
Neither spoke.
The clearing fell silent once more.
