Hunt Race

Chapter 43: Silver Rank

The blade came to rest.

Neither of them moved.

The vice leader's body lay motionless between them.

A gentle breeze swept through the clearing.

Her bow remained raised.

His hand rested on the hilt of his longsword.

Kael tightened his grip on his sword.

The man took a single step forward.

She drew an arrow.

THWANG!

The arrow screamed toward his chest.

SHHK!

A silver flash.

The arrow split cleanly into two.

The broken halves buried themselves in separate trees behind him.

His pace never changed.

Another arrow flew.

THWANG!

SHHK!

Another silver flash.

The arrow broke apart.

The distance between them continued to shrink.

She fired again.

THWANG!

The arrow curved toward his shoulder.

SHHK!

It split apart before reaching him.

She didn't hesitate.

The bow disappeared.

Her short sword flashed into her hand.

CLANG!

Steel collided.

The impact echoed through the forest.

She slipped to his left.

A slash.

He turned his wrist.

CLANG!

She attacked again.

Then again.

Each strike flowed into the next.

Fast.

Precise.

Relentless.

He blocked every one.

No wasted movement.

Only the shortest path.

She stepped back.

Then lunged once more.

CLANG!

Their blades locked for a brief instant.

She twisted away before his counter could reach her.

The bow returned to her hand.

THWANG!

A point-blank arrow shot toward his face.

SHHK!

The arrow split cleanly into two.

His sword continued downward.

She twisted aside.

The blade carved through the space where her shoulder had been.

BOOM!

The tree behind her split in half.

Wood exploded across the clearing.

She widened the distance.

Another arrow was already on the string.

THWANG!

He cut it down.

She fired again.

Another silver flash.

Another broken arrow.

His pace never changed.

Step.

Step.

Step.

Like death itself.

He stopped.

A faint frown crossed his face.

"Enough."

His grip tightened around the longsword.

A faint silver aura seeped from his hand.

It flowed along the blade.

The steel gave a low hum.

SHHHHNG!

He swung.

Her instincts screamed.

She threw herself backward.

Too late.

The silver edge tore across her shoulder.

Blood sprayed into the air.

She crashed across the ground before sliding to a stop.

She looked down.

Blood dripped steadily from the wound.

She slowly raised her head.

He stood where he was.

The silver aura still flowed along his blade.

It hadn't disappeared.
